    Lemme know what you think of these early moves on the intermodal business!
    If you haven’t already, check out our hour special of the final days of KCS!
    Apologize for the Falcon Premium graphic mishap. Wasn’t supposed to be cropped that much.

    The major advantage that CPKC has with regard to Asian container traffic is: 1) Vancouver is at least one day closer to the Asian ports than any US port. This allows faster service via ship between Asia and North America. 2) the CP line south of the Twin Cities to KC bypasses Chicago. This eliminates the bottleneck in Chicago. This gives CPKC a competitive edge getting traffic into Mexico and the south eastern US. 3) Having a single carrier linking Mexico, USA and Canada provides seamless customer service. I love your videos.

    Awesome video Bishop! I'm really happy to see what CPKC has done for great success in the big Intermodal industry. I just pray it doesn't fail.

    I've always understood that a major component of a rail merger is competition. Without it, shippers are stuck with little to choose from, and it might not be the best. UP, CN and Ferromex responding in the way they did to CPKC's intermodal plan shows that this merger is indeed creating the competition needed. I'm excited to see how things look one year from now. Thanks for sharing this very informative video!

    1:40, although it's already been pointed out, these are domestic containers, I have to say you may want to brush up on them since you'll be seeing more of them. Containers ships primarily carry 20 and 40 foot, although Schneider had once purchased some 53' containers from overseas, and they were shipped with loads instead of empty. Also, Schneider only ship containers with the UP. In time, we'll see if CPKC will dedicate to any specific carrier.

    Your coverage is A+. Hopefully the elder sisters who have been left in the dust won't be there long, and all boats will rise with the incoming tide, to mix the metaphor. Although I am somewhat in the middle of CPKC land, I don't expect more traffic through here, although it is a pretty fine main line (albeit with greatly reduced traffic in recent years.) I am getting very old (79) and any news like this is quite re-invigorating. Drone coverage has been an incredible asset for us railfans. By the way, you notice how the Brightline guy, who is running out of new Florida news, has taken up his drone joy-stick in mid America just recently. Today is Aug. 29, 2023. St.Joseph, MO, USA

    Love the video. Looking forward to the possibilities they can create to drum up more service in spots that were struggling before. We shall see what our new railroad can do and keep to their promises being PSR class 1 railroads. I have my opinions but wont share too much here since I have been with the CP all of my railroading career which started almost 30 years ago. I have seen a lot of changes in that time period which were not too great especially with Harrison coming along then crap went downhill fast. I will leave it at that. I don't like the fact other railroads are weaseling their way around the STB with side deals like the UP, CN and the Groupo Mexico stuff. Right now the railroad industry is a mess and a bitter outlook with some of us railroaders. This is my take your request and have a wonderful rest of your evening. We enjoy watching your videos.(Steve)

    Thanks for the reporting! I do believe that CN is bitter since they lost out on KCS but they're getting a great partnership with UP. Yet, CPKC will have the best direct route to & from Mexico and uP will do all that it can to delay its on-time performance.

    1:35 this train may likely be from the west coast, but it's not carrying international containers. The 53 foot containers from HUB and Schneider are domestic containers that don't leave North America. By contrast, cargo directly from Asia would be in 40 foot containers owned by steamship lines. Note though that a lot of overseas containers are unloaded and repacked into domestic containers in SoCal for onward distribution.

    I grew up on the Beaumont sub. I recognize as of late some of the trains you point out like the 274 from Jackson. And the oil train going to Port Arthur. How do you know these train numbers when it passes? They don't call them out on the radio. Just curious. I'd like to identify the new 180/181 when it starts up.

    • @LouisianaRailProductions
      @LouisianaRailProductions  Год назад +1

      A lot of it has to do with recognition. On my home turf, the Vicksburg sub, I can probably correctly label most trains I see due to its cargo, locomotive consist configuration, time of day, etc. On occasions, dispatch will state a train number when setting up meets or yard work. And with the Beaumont sub day, we had some good connections to give us the symbol details.

    I think it’s interesting to see how the intermodal landscape has changed in regards to CPKC. I will say that CPKC will or might stay in the EMP program only for the Meridian Speedway, bound for NS, or in Mexico, where that CPKC intermodal is bound for the UP at Laredo.

    Since CN has become a Share holders company ,they have been become a very aggressive company, they have set their eye on expanding further into the US, they have been trying to sell their marine division for a couple of years (Great Lakes Fleet ) , I believe once they sell off this asset and free up more $$ plus the settlement they got from CP things could start changing , i do know they have had their eye on NS.

    I'm not expecting a lot more intermodal between Moose Jaw and Chicago or KC. China trade is declining and Mexico is expanding. I live right next to the River Sub and only see one intermodal per day heading south and east during daylight hours.
