Hard to believe today is the last day! So many memories with this railroad! Hope y’all enjoy this! As I’m typing this I’m trackside along my home rails for one final outing with KCS. You’ll see the video of my final day next week. (And yes I moved the release a day up because why not!)
I’m still wanting to wait to see how the new railroad is like. If CPKC turns out to be a good thing then I think we could say that it wasn’t for nothing. I mean after all the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad how to become a fallen flag to get us Burlington Northern and I think that people would agree Burlington northern wasn’t all that bad. (that said, as much as I like BNSF paint schemes I think the merger between Burlington, northern Santa Fe could’ve been avoided.)
@@bobelliott2748 I agree with you. I think that mergers combine the identities of both railroads rather than just subsuming one into the other, does allow the spirit to live on as it were. Santa Fe still with us via BNSF and Norfolk and western definitely could be said to still be around in a way with Norfolk Southern. Not as sure about the chesse system and CSX though
I always wanted 2SD40s & 2 Gp40s to go along with my KcS 944s engines that l had, guess l really liked the railroad too, l just think it should be double tracked from Canada thru to Mexico....
*_My dad was both a brakeman & switchmsn for Kansas City Southern railroad for 32 years! He developed cancer and was forced into a "early retirement".. He'd been quit smoking many years earlier but the building he'd run out of for his entire career, was insulated with asbestos (Airline Hwy in Metairie, LA) and KCS registhad plans to get rid if soon. I don't know if they did or not but when my dad died, they (KCS ®) immediately cut off his "retirement" checks and didn't even give him one for the month he almost lived through. That felt a little dirty and was 100% arbitrary on their part._* 🤔 *_I'm so thankful for a channel like this that brings awareness to and shows such deep appreciation for, railroads!_* 😁🏆
29 years ago...Jan. 1, 1994...the KCS bought out my favorite road, the Midsouth. I went all over Louisiana and Mississippi to get as many pictures of Midsouth power as I could before all of their engines were sold off or scrapped. If RUclips and the internet were around then, I would have made some videos about that buy out. But instead I have albums of photos of the past. This video, as long as the internet and RUclips survive, will be around for generations showing what these "good ol' days" were all about. We will watch this in the future and "remember when..." Thank you for your hard work these last several years for helping preserve tomorrow's past. This video is finely crafted, and is worthy of all accolades it receives. Thank you Bishop!
Amazing footage. This video is a great way to say "gone, but never forgotten." Thanks so much for putting all of your time and incredible effort into this farewell. Looking forward to your first CPKC video! Andrew

Wonderful video, great editing, and knowledgeable narration made for a fantastic tribute. Thanks for the time and effort to produce this for railfans everywhere.
I've traveled the world and been on quite a few different trains. I ended up in MS for some years and saw alot of KCS at the Gulfport yard up to Hattiesburg and would see trains crossing the CSX/KCS diamond at the coast. I have definitely lived the KCS experience.
I am model railroader and I just bought a beautiful KCS GE ET44AC GEVO, I didnt know much at all about the company, I just thought it was beautiful so glad I found your video tribute it was outstanding! Thank you.
Been here in DeRidder, Louisiana for 42 years. So glad to see the trains, a sign of good economics. Where I'm from in the Mississippi Delta, there are no trains running from Clarksdale to Greenville. Tracks have been gone over 20 years. Love the KCS Christmas train! Have been on it twice ! Even have pictures!
I always appreciate local residents leaving comments. If you haven’t already seen it, I have a 30 minute video covering my time volunteering on the KCS Holiday Express. It’s one of my favorite videos I’ve made. Thanks for watching!
This has been an exceptional video. Having grown up with CP, here in NB, CAN, (77 yrs now) naturally, CP has been always been my favourite. I do hope that KCS and CP can reach agreement on the new look for KCS with the southern bell's paint scheme to remain in some form so as to not lose its identity. While this merger has been proceeding, CP, here in NB have came back into the province, working with the Port of Saint John and NBSR to increase its business.
I Live in the UK and have a layout based solely on the 'KCS'. - I love their Livery, Consists, and everything about them, even though I have never seen a full sized one. My lay out will not change apart from the fact I will now build a couple of sidings to park 'KCS' - 'Out of Use' locos, and I certainly will not be adding any 'CP' locos to my fleet - even if they do 'label' them 'CPKCS' or similar.
Oh man you would love to meet a real SD70ace Belle, they are some fine girls, tough as nails and will rock you to sleep if you let her. I been one a fair share of EMD's and GE's owned by KCS here either catching a ride to a jobsite or installing / upgrading the communications systems. I have a KCS themed HO scale layout in my dedicated climate controlled shed that is dual mode (DC and DCC). Most of the power is KCS but I do have some UP, CSX, SP in my collection. I also have the only Elfnet Rail-Link custom painted GP40-2 double head set and an SD70ace pair based of my old GMod trainbuild servers fictional railroad. IDK if I will be ordering the new branded KCS locos ot not. I mean I might just to have in the display cabinet with thge brass stuff. not decided though yet
As a kid I used to watch the KCS run by my house outside of Wickes Arkansas. Back then they were White. Sometimes the Engineers would would honk the horn for me. Even though I live in the north now near the NS and CN lines, I'm going to miss the KCS. Thanks for the video.
A west bound freight train was pulling a Kansas City Southern locomotive through Wheaton, IL this afternoon (5/28/2023). I have never seen this line come through here before. I guess I was witnessing history.
I grew up about 30 yards from there tracks in Rosepine Louisiana they still have a couple GP 40 running around back and forth between Deridder and Leesville from PCA papermill
Im from KC MO and I know this railway company and im sad to see it end but the new era is a bright future and hopefully I can find a rail job and enjoy it with my time in the National Guard for my grandpa who we lost last year who shared a love of trains with me and I plan to build a model yard for him.
Another excellent job! Please go back to Leesville and get more of KCS 3162 And her Leslie S5T horn! It’s only one of two sd45 carbodies running on KCS and the only one not in Shreveport yard duty.
Great compilation of KCS railroad, Appreciate it. For me it's sort of ironic that CP is getting into it's stable of locos the last 4 EMD's made in London, Ontario Canada before Cat shut it down and moved it all to Indiana putting many Canadians out of work.
Great video and you killed it at Rich Mtn. I've never caught that much traffic there. That last shot crossing the river is the head waters of the Ouachita River.
As much as I be seeing KCS power on the UP rails, it's still kinda hard to believe the merger is actually happening and it is. Looks like I'll be seeing more of CP's pre-mergers now.
My dad works for bnsf and where I work the tracks are about 10 or so feet from where I clean up trash and stuff at our local Lowes I've seen a few NS units and kcs units mixed into bnsf stack trains.
Just caught a KCS Grey Ghost pulling a load near sandpoint idaho. Didn't catch the numbers because I was driving. Absolutely love their "belle" paint scheme

I thoroughly enjoyed this video, one of the best I've watched. Back in the 1990's a movie came out called "Southern Comfort", it looked like the characters was fighting in a swamp and in the background a KCS train runs by, that was the icing on the cake. Have you seen this movie and do you know where it may have been filmed?
Well I think CPKC will increase competition in the entire industry. KCS and CP competed with each on literally nothing. They simply met in one location.
