We keep talking about Roman cancels on this channel, but only because there is SO MUCH THERE! So in this video is sort of a grab-bag of concepts with Roman Cancels. From being about to use a roman cancel as a slingshot for momentum, to creating possible checkmate situations with super moves and more hopefully you find some of these tricks helpful! Keep in mind any character specific stuff in the video, many characters can emulate the same kinda tricks!
So the #system-mechanics channel in the GGST discord was messing around and discovered some dank tech. You can taunt cancel normals then drift PRC cancel to get a command grab on block. You can also replace RRC with taunt-canceled PRC in quite a few combos to forgo the extra hit and scaling that comes with the RRC pop. This added 25 damage to my Leo's B&B and makes some combo extensions possible where they otherwise would not be.
Is there any reason you chose to cancel bandit bringer with hs? Should it be a longer button or does it not matter? (Pot main here, im assuming from watching this i can hit megafist, cancel the recovery when they block it, then hit hs, to land fast, and pot buster/low) cant wait to try it!
@@metalgeartrusty cause HS will whiff, you want it to whiff. If it hits it ruins the whole thing. And yes works the same with pot and megafist, and you also want a slow button so you don't actually hit them
Just curious if this is known tech, but any time you can dash cancel, you can get a blue roman cancel. This works with cancelling air normals to air dash, same way as ino can cancel. And for giovanna and sol you can get blue roman cancel when dash cancelling normals. You can also get the purple roman cancel if you activate just after hit stop. The taunt cancel is new to me but the delay might be easier in general. It's still pretty useful to avoid the penalty from red roman cancel.
I absolutely adore how they somehow made the roman cancels both more simple and more deep. great example of how streamlining doesn't have to equal dumbing down.
Fantastic video mate. I play Faust and using PRC on his scarecrows for movement and grab set ups is really cool. Faust has a lot of issues, but at least he's really tricky

Man, I couldn't gush enough about how cool Roman Cancels are in Strive. All this trickery you can do really encapsulates the dev's idea of "mischief", and in a way that's surprisingly easy to execute thanks to the button macro. I'm a new player, and I have never been good at combos or executionally-difficult moves, but I could see myself trying some of this with a little time practicing. I've never felt that way about a fighting game before. I even thought of a couple of things I could try with Faust while the video was going on! It's just so wildly freeing to be able to look at the complex stuff, the real meat of the game, and actually be able to participate. I really do feel all the work the devs did to make this game approachable-yet-deep is really paying off. Strive really is such an impressive piece of design and I'm so looking forward to seeing it grow and develop.
The momentum is one of my favorite things about the Roman cancel. When I discovered that I could do this the day I learned fast cancels I was amazed. One of my friends plays Nago so I actually tried implementing this technique a lot in my neutral when he tries to anti air me. I’ve also used it to bait a jump attempt from Iron Savior and fast canceled into j.S to catch them by surprise. Also, as an extension tool to go for a overhead after it’s blocked. Another thing that I like to do with Millia is utilize her j.H from the fast cancel to land and continue a combo. Gatling>iron savior>drift fast j.H miss>c.S>combo time. This game is too fun.
Last night I definitely saw someone use the techniques you demonstrated for Faust and Ramlethal in game, which I hadn't seen before. Looks like people are paying attention :)
I'm a brand new GG player, but loving this game. I get destroyed everytime right now but the vids along with grinding the training mode have been helping a lot. Thanks and I look forward to the next ones!
Sane here. Me and my brother went in blind and I always having a blast. Jumped into mission mode and was taken a back by all the crazy tech and complexity of the game. Gonna beat him up when we play again
Some Axl applications: 1) Make them block rensengeki full screen, then fast RC command grab. 2) Hit them with an anti-air 2S or 6K, cancel into One Vision, RC the recovery of One Vision, then let it rip!

I think when RC gets figured out some absolutely monstrous combos and mixups will be seen. Im already having a blast getting people with the hammer fall RC into pot buster nonsense
There's a crazy combo that Axl can do using the momentum RC glitch. Basically he RCs part of the Axl Bomber, which makes him go flying, in fact if you do it wrong you go IN FRONT OF YOUR OPPNONENT LOL. But if you do it right, you end up following your opponent to the corner without crossing up, where you can continue the Axl bomber corner loop.
My favorite thing is to condition with hamerfall rc pot buster to train them to jump. Then with max meter you rc wait for the jump and send them to heaven

if I may make a request for a future video: I've discovered that certain normals have different properties depending on whether they're gatlinged immediately or delay gatlinged/linked. for example giovanna's close S causes a small launch if you immediately cancel, but if you wait for the hit freeze slayer style the opponent's feet will have time to touch the ground again and you can hit them standing with H. this lets you do things like rc into OH/low/throw or super into OH/low/throw, which wouldn't work if they were juggled. I don't have a big enough platform to tell people about this stuff and I'd enjoy seeing you find new applications for it.
I love GG Strive's new Roman Cancel for the fact that it lets people get creative with it. You'll usually see it be used for extending combos, but a Yellow Roman Cancel can be used to stop pressure, a Blue RC can be used on knockdown to wait and see what the opponent tries to do on wakeup, or what we're seeing right now, etc. I've been trying to experiment with fast RCs for my Potemkin, but have been having trouble executing them in a real match. I really need to work on the timing for the inputs!

Man when I found out what roman cancels were back when I started Xrd, I thought it was some cool shit. And then Strive made them into so much more and now in my opinion, it's probably the coolest mechanic in fighting games, there's just so much room to do creative, cool shit and style on people with them, almost infinite ways to use them and it's a great way to use meter when in most games meter=big damage move and that's all. I been watching your video recently and I really enjoy them because I’m recently getting into fighting games (kof 14 because of a friend) but I’m so nervous to go against others cause I feel like I’m going to completely fail. I doubt it. I can’t confirm this because haven’t tried it myself but fightings games usually have what players refer to cross-up protection. Meaning in that case whatever move hits first so long as you block it the next hit will automatically be blocked if its hitting at the same time but from the opposite side because theres no way to block both ways at once. So if you were to punch with May before the whale hits so long as you block that punch correctly the whale should automatically be blocked too if it hits while your opponent is still in the block stun of the punch and vice verse if the whale hits first a punch from May should be blocked on the other side if it’s hitting while the whale is still actively hitting.
The only thing you should use your roman cancel is to rc your gorillas moves to abuse such degenerate moves. That is ehy their powerful. It means that for the fifth time you went for a dp that they block, you now rc to continue your degenerate assault. Never learn my brothers! Reject reason, return to monkey.
Best part of this system is when my friend is like you can't mix me then I do some cursed may mix up like jumping 2hs into itself then super make sure super hits crossup

A little addition to the momentum section, if you RC drift vertically you cancel any horizontal momentum
turns out saw some footage where you can retain momentum. this game just has too many options! lol

Noob question, but do you have to cancel the RC with a heavy splash? Or does mashing any button work to cancel early?
Heavy slash works best for quick landing because it won't come out and has extremely low landing lag
