- Faultless defense is a great move to use on defense! However this particular aspect of it is rarely ever brought up so lets shine a spotlight on it and showcase some examples of it and its defensive applications in guilty gear strive!

Other day we made a video about Defense in Guilty Gear Strive, and had a thought which is what we talk about in todays video here (faster falls with faultless defense). It is rarely if ever brought up so, why not a whole video! If you fight someone who is very happy spamming reversals while you are in air and think they are safe, or struggle dealing with certain aspects of Axl's gameplan, or a bunch of other small things this should help you out!
When the title looks like clickbait but it isn't. Good job, Rooflemonger. (Hilarious thumbnail, too.)
I had a really hard time naming this video and I almost said screw it and was gonna name it "one weird trick axl players don't want you to know". The filename is even oneweirdtrick.mp4
Wiff into RC is the true defense in this game.
This is further out I guess but come the big october patch is when I will start making a bunch of GGST combo guides again. I had a bunch half finished but I just live in perpetual fear of stuff getting outdated immediately and who knows when in october that patch will drop. That's is(at least to our knowledge) the last big GGST patch for this year before 2022, so its "safe" to put out combos and stuff after then haha. That patch should also contain our third DLC character, and reminder that DLC characters #4 and 5 will be in 2022, so that dlc character will also be the last one for the year! Who could it be? It is a mystery!
I'm betting on happy chaos.
@@deco7217 I feel happy chaos will be the last DLC character. DLC #5 comes with the 2nd story mode, and I can't see baiken or slayer being tied to the story mode.
@@rooflemonger That could be Asuka
@@rooflemonger
You think so?
I know it sounds strange to have Baiken or Slayer tied to the new story DLC, but here’s an alternative angle:
Happy Chaos was featured prominently in the story mode while Baiken and Slayer were not. We’ve already got characters like Jack-o and Goldlewis who were ALSO featured prominently in the story mode already.
Wouldn’t it make more sense for Happy Chaos to come out now and then have the new story mode feature Baiken, Slayer, and others?
@@m0002856 considering the end of story mode is a stinger with happy chaos's return, the next story mode would also be about him is my reckonin'
I had NO idea this was a thing. As a Pot main that changes EVERYTHING against Axl.
How is this the first time I've heard this since launch? Thanks, man.
An additional PSA on Axl's rensen, since I still run into people that respect it too much. In Strive the startup is slow enough that if Axl tries to cancel into it on block, you're almost guaranteed to have something that can interrupt it, and faster characters like Millia can even IAD in before the anti-air follow up and get a full combo.
we are getting to a point where players will turn of their brains and just want to attack attack attack. its not a complaint, its me realizing this because this is also true with shooting games where nobody wants to be a supporting player and just want shoot everything.
That's a complaint for me. If people can turn their brains off and attack attack attack then they aren't getting punished enough for reckless offense which is pretty hard to do in strive. Coming from Uni and tekken where reckless offense can be as disastrous as reckless defense making for more thoughtful gameplay. Just my take though
i wanna hit buttons and go i don't wanna think anymore
another thing you gotta consider is lots of fighting games are pretty aggressive early on because everyone is still figuring stuff out, nobody wants to sit and block.

Defense in alot of 2D fighters has been pretty wack for a while now, it's either some really strict timing with little reward or downright useless
I actually never knew that, definitely gonna use this against Leo and Chipp 😂
Oh thank you for showing the pot/axl example. That is incredibly useful small tech. I feel like I only need a few of those to turn that matchup to 5/5, and my other tricks weren't quite doing it against good players.
Just FD bro
Forget the rest of this video. As a Ramlethal main, I’ve heard everything I needed to hear in less than a minute and ten seconds.
“Ramlethal jab kinda lacking”
I AGREE, Roofle, my boy! Ramlethal DOES need some buffs. :)
I’m going to link this video to all my friends as definitive proof that the man who analyzes fighting games for his RUclips content has clearly stated Ramlethal needs buffs, and it, therefore, must be true.
This is a very interesting application of FD Braking, you can also use it on offense against a lot of characters if they’re swinging with a meaty air hitbox, or to land faster out of an airdash (iirc). Obviously very very weak to grab but very underutilized movement option.
Man the Axl application is a blessing!! 😭😭😭 Thx a lot!
You posted this vid as soon as I got off due to getting corner pressured by chip
A newbie to Strive here o/, got into this channel and learned Chipp I knew later about mix-ups using the FD after a knockdown but didn't know it could also be used on defense, good video
Nice tip Roof! Thanks again for the PSA.
Its true, I've only come across 2 people who've mentioned this. And that's you and NQuad1Zero (whos Anti-Axl Low Guide I HIGHLY recommend to everyone!!)
Great tip! Dint know fd was so useful in the air, think I've only ever done it on the floor, Nice to be able to punish dp after blocking in the air definitely gonna be adding this to my defense options
good stuff, thanks mate
Rooflemonger, Preacher from the Church of Faultless Defense
I was thinking this would be about fuzzy jumping seeing as how Ram was in the air, but judging by how she was blocking a reversal in the thumbnail I had some doubts. What you showed instead is something that makes a lot of sense since I already use FD fastfall but for some reason I hadn't connected the dots, thanks!
Great video, I felt like fd in the air had some special properties but I never really knew what they were till now
Thats a game changer for the Axl matchup. At least to me. Subbed keep up the good work!

FINALLY i accept matches agaisnt axl watching this :D great video !
Awesome video ROOFL
Dang! I can't believe I forgot about the fact Air Faultless Defense and Air Instant Block reduce your landing recovery, making certain otherwise safe anti-airs punishable! The game even mentioned it works this way in the Mission Mode! :O
Thank you rooflemonger.
Every Axl main is cursing your name right about now.
good
Cool stuff dude!
Damn, i didnt know about this. Thanks a lot :D
Very cool little tidbit I didn't know before.
Ive only been on a job trip for a week and having Strive withdrawal because Im not gonna try Strive online with hotel wifi
i gotta get better about my FD, everytime im like "wah! rams and chipps are getting in and i never have breathing room" i forget about FD
I had no idea you could do that, this will be very helpful to the way I play!
Defense time bois
Faultless Defense reminds me of the barrier meter in Blazblue, so I have been attempting to make good use of when to and when not to use it as instead it'll eat your tension gauge. Faultless defending Ram's laser beam super on the ground eats roughly half I believe.
Thank you. This helps so much
Thanks
yoooo old man tech is neat! this is from one old man to another, thanks!
This is exactly what I needed, I have a nago acquaintance who abuses his 2hs on my jump and I struggle with getting a punish. Now? Hehehehe no
If you jump and he reacts and anti airs you it's not abusing it
@@AdamSmasherReal if it were just that then this comment wouldn't exist
Thumbnail earns an instant like
Axl players mad about this interaction btw, it's one of the reasons you hardly ever see rensen 8 anymore, way less risky for them to just lame you out with j.S and j.H with the odd cancel mixed in for spice
Let the cowards be mad
This is a great video, right on bro.
So helpful
Thanks it definitely will be helpful
I did not know that. So thats how people can counter me after I sickle them in as Axl. :O
All the Axls online today are going to be very confused that they're getting punished for that move all of a sudden
It's over axl players. 💀
I really hope this works at least a bit in the matchup
@@carlos41519 well to answer your hopes I used this exact situation in a local tournament and it was the game winning punish too. It was super satisfying.
@@pedrito890 i tried to beat axls with this but i havent been able to cause they just use normals. Nice job though
Good info!
For a noob like me it was confusing that her block has a green effect :P
Faultless video tutorial friend. 👍
Neat.
OH MY GOD
I have to be wise to use agaisnt axl or may i had hard match to a may player last night barely use specials becuase i have to use mostly of the time fd against her lol but have fun learning
Any one else *triggered* when they see Axl?
Note to self: Use FD and push buttons
@rooflemonger I absolutely cannot wait for some random Pot player to bait an air FD on Axl's pull sickle, grab him with a full stick of butter, and just jump outta the fckin gym. Who do you think will do this in tourney first?
pot buster only gonna beat his normal if he's slow even with the tech honestly. It is 3x slower than a regular grab remember!
Just got the game today I'm not only new to strive but also fighting games entirely, what's the best way a can learn? I want to get good and want to play at the the upper levels with the higher skilled players any tips would be greatly appreciated :]
Also I just subbed you're content is very helpful and pleasing to watch so thank you for that!
First thing I would say is, its great you wanna learn but it is by no means a race. Don't rush out to hit the finish line cause let me tell you there is no finish lines in fighting games haha. Just play and have fun at first, find a character you like and mess around. After you play some matches win or lose think about what was "important" in those matches maybe hit training mode and mess around with those scenarios. Also can help to find other new players who just wanna mess around as well, there is plenty of reddits/discords to check out for beginners!
@@rooflemonger Okay cool thanks I'm gonna try out Nagoriyuki then, he seems like a lot of fun. Thanks:] Ill see if I can get some buddy's to try the game out too. In the meantime I'm going to watch you're other beginner guide videos Thanks again.
axl likes men
Aw that’s messed up about Axl, you should he plus always after rensen>8
Why should he be get hit if he had the right read?
cause he's axl and deservers everything coming his way
Bruh did you know you can punish Anji’s spin with a Prc? I guess making correct reads doesn’t mean your correct xD 💀
This is dumb honestly. Making anti airs blockable is the worst change they made with strive to begin with imo and now you can't even safely go for your anti airs.
This games lobby system is still trash. The amount of times I literally can’t match with people is more than frustrating. Constantly fails to match. Ruins the hole experience. I’m ranting because I’m watching this video at the same time it’s taken over 5 mins to properly match without failing.
I know the feeling
