It's a shame that wooting decided to go for the 'weird and proprietary' PCB approach for their """80%""" keyboard.
I got a reply on Twitter from them when they released it about how they "discovered" the "H87" (a popular standard TKL PCB) "much later in the process".
Which is a wild thing to say because the TKL format in general has been a thing since before they existed as a company.
Luckily there are other companies out there producing Hall Effect boards with more standard form factors. For custom keyboard enthusiasts out there, I think Geonworks is developing some HE custom PCBs, so it'll be available for that market too at some point.

@@jsnagn3410 I don't understand, HE keyboards are literally the cheapest out of all switch types, the best mx style are ridiculously expensive because of tgr and other designers, and membrane keyboards are more expensive because of the hhkb. A stock wooting costs $180, and if you fully mod it, it only goes up like $500 with a fjell (probably the most overhyped tray mount 60% case). as someone with 7 or 8 keyboards, HE is really cool and is objectively better for gaming, but isn't worth it for most people. You touched on this slightly when talking about form factors, but to elaborate: if you use your keyboard for work and gaming, and aren't able to afford or don't want to have two keyboards for whatever reason, traditional mechanical switches offer a better all around experience for both work and gaming than HE switches do. If you have a dedicated keyboard for gaming it should absolutely be HE, but otherwise you'll probably be better off with just mechanical switches. Ok, so as a keyboard guy. Here are the most important things you want to pay attention to as a gamer. 1. Latency & polling rate (for obvious reasons, RTINGS has fantastic super technical reviews of most popular boards, this includes latency, polling rate etc). 2. That it has NKRO (n-key rollout, this allows you to press an unlimited amount of keys simultaneously and they will all be registered. Most boards, esp cheaper ones or ones that are older come with 6kro only which allows 6 keys to be pressed simultaneously max). 3. That it's a hotswap board (This is vital. Because if ever a switch breaks on your board. If you don't know how to solder or these are some unique switch you can't buy or swap out, you're f'd. With hotswap It will be super cheap and easy to fix, no soldering etc just plug and play. This will also allow you to change your switches to anything you like. Tired of clicky? Try linear. Want more thock, a smoother experience? Buy a different set of switches etc). That's kinda it for what is most important for gaming. After that it's pure preference to what you like, what feels best etc. Type of switches, feel, keycap profile, it's all preference. But here are a few more things to pay attention too. The keycap profile, most keyboards come with OEM or with a custom profile. (profile is how the keys are shaped and angled). OEM profile is basically a much taller cherry profile, most people don't like it. Cherry on the other hand is beloved and the favorite profile for most keyboard people and likely also best for gaming because it's has a pretty low profile. Stabilizers, pay attention to if these are good, they are cheap, easy to mod and improve. But bad stabilizers make a board sounds horrible because your space bar will sound very rattly even if all your other keys sound great. If you plan on using it wireless, make sure it has 2.4hz and supports 1000hz polling over that 2.4hz. Making sure these things are in order, you will buy a board that is worth your money and that you can easily further upgrade in the near future if you wish. I can't recommend any switches because it's personal preference. I thought I liked clicky switches but after wasting some money on them I tried a cheap linear one that is very good (gateron yellows) and fell in love with linear switches. For boards though, I recently had my eye on the Rainy 75. It's a 100 euro, sounds insane stock, metal case, everything. But there isn't a rtings review of it, and they don't use paypall and I don't use credit cards. As an alternative the Lemokey P1 (a keychron board). Which is literally a q1 pro (which is like 200 euro) only for a 100 euro cheaper. It actually seems to be superior to the q1. Comes with cherry profile, sounds great etc.

Snap tap is one of the must-have features imho, the other two are the function keys row and ISO layout. This narrows down the selection to only 2 keebs (correction 3 keyboards) i guess. Therefore Can you please provide an affiliate link or discount code for Wooting80he and Razerhunsman v3 tkl as well as DrunkDeer A75? pleeease
    many thanks

I think we need a new 'category' of keyboard. The majority of this video only makes any sense if you equate all of 'gaming' to just 'esports'. Personally I barely care at all about key responsiveness for the games I play and I use the media, macro and numpad keys literally every single day.

You really dont need a Wooting or any high end keyboard with modern tech like rapid trigger.
A crappy Redragon 60% that costs 40€ is going to pretty much have the same performance unless you are really looking for those extra benefits.
Just whatever you do, dont game on a fullsized keyboard. Get an external numpad if you need it.

    • @ITSecNEO

@@ITSecNEO I own a Wooting 60HE and it is honestly not that different from regular mechanical keyboards aside from SOCD, which is banned in some games and most likely will be banned in other games in the future.
Its literally just a cope product for people who are not at the top 1% of the ladder and unlikely to result in any major benefits for the average consumer.
Sure, if you got the money, then go ahead and get the best you can if you want, but way too many people look at these products as a shortcut to improving.

@@hoarka3052 but what's the problem with having the option to buy a smaller one or a bigger one?
What is this idea that a gaming keyboard SHOULD be smaller? There is no objective reason for it
The only thing this possibly achieves is make the keyboard market go "okay, people think that gaming = small". If they start thinking that, then you will have to buy an "office" keyboard if you want full size, and a "gaming" keyboard for gaming features. Which would be great for these companies, because that's 2 keyboards they can sell to you
Having options hasn't been a problem before. Where is this idea that we should devolve coming from? You said it yourself, "some people". Well, there are other people, too

I mean, if you like the 100% layout, go for it
but there is very little reason to buy a full size keeb because of the extremely limited availability, the fact that you only use the numpad to log in, and the fact that you will objectively spend like a 40% premium for a full sized board over a more standardized layout
also, what the fuck does age have to do with anything here, my 70 year old father uses a 65%, does that make him childish?
