I don't understand of why all the hate about the replaceable battery. It's great folks, trust me on this. Get 2 rechargeable AA battery and you practically have unlimited battery life. No more being tethered to a cable when you're low on battery, just plug a new battery in and charge the other one and you're good to go. And weight wise, i mean come on. 75g with AAA battery is good. You won't notice much going below 80g. And even if you do, i think that having a small weight compromise for unlimited battery life is still a good tradeoff.

    • @sp3edy787
      @sp3edy787 5 месяцев назад

@@CortyCze hot swappable batteries are great in theory but there is an obvious tradeoff required in order to facilitate a way to mount the battery such that will impact the overall design. Maybe that's a worthwhile tradeoff for the right use case but the battery life for internal batteries are so bonkers these days that charging is a complete non issue. My pro X superlight will turn the status light red under 20% charge which if I see that is a sign I need to plug it in. Eventually, because thats still over 10hrs left so I just do that when I'm finished my current session and turning off. I've never had it run out of charge while using it and the tradeoffs to weight and such aren't remotely worth it to me for a problem that isn't really a big problem anymore. Yes it's somewhat harder to repair when that battery eventually starts to die but it's still doable with some simple diy. If plugging devices in to charge is that inconvenient try getting one of those usb cables with a detachable magnetic tip. It stays in the device which you then move within the general vicinity of the cable end and tada it's plugged in and charging.

When the battery runs out, it's a 3-4 second replacement and I have a fully charged battery again, instead of having to wait 30 minutes or more for it to charge. I would like the convenience of wireless mice and keyboards, but I won't make the switch until there's replaceable lithium batteries in everything.

    • @8lec_R
      @8lec_R 5 месяцев назад +8

Ummm newsflash... You can make a repairable mouse with an internal battery. Sure it'll be harder to open but I'd rather open my mouse once every 2 years to replace the battery rather than use something that is 30g heavier everyday everytime I need to move my mouse.
Oh btw I bought attack shark x3 for 18 bucks. I could have bought 2 for less than 40 bucks to swap between when one dies. Also, battery lasts so long that I have only charged it once in 2 months lol.
Repairability doesn't mean shit can't get better and smaller. It means that devices should not make it hard to repair on purpose. Internal batteries aren't bad. Having no screws or hiding them under mouse feet is anti-repair
Also the amount of waste with disposable batteries is higher.

Simply becayse they make the mouse way heavier, which is annoying to most people. Even just for day to day use.
It's also less convenient and expensive since you'd have to keep buying batteries over and over or you'd have to invest in quality rechargeable batteries + recharging station which quickly add up to the cost of the mouse. You could make the point of getting cheap rechargable batteries, but then you'd be back at swapping them every few months regardless since rechargable batteries don't last forever either, if having less waste was a concern you'd go with a wired mice which would last you until one of the switches die.

@@LSSMIRAK any mouse with the DPI button and/or others on top's got one, in some models there are even others connecting components on the PCB, also, that you gotta be really observant of during disassembly; although some are now coming with normal wires, that are more manageable.
Still, 99% of the time, the screws are behind the feet and the info tag. GL and HF taking these off without deforming the feet/tag and dealing with the adhesive losing grip afterwards. And the shell's usually clamped together, requiring a screwdriver to pry open, inevitably denting the plastic. So the point is, you can hardly hope not to damage your property in order to do basic stuff like this.
If weight's not relevant, I can just pop a 2.600 mAh Eneloop AA on a mouse that, if needed be, can just be swapped with any chinesium alkaline cell, that's sold wherever, in 10 seconds, and that's after ~6 months of daily use (w/o RGB) on a single charge. While when a "super premium" mouse's Li-Ion cell - that at most packs ~900 mAh - goes bad/loses charge, you either gotta go wired from several hours to forever, or try your luck on a specialist battery site (or shady eBay/AliExpress stores) to try to get one with the same make and model, and do the lengthy replacement process. So if something as trivial as a slotted lid can be done with AA/AAA cells, why can't it be the same with Li-Ion cells?

What I dont like about is the plastic they use on the thumb grip. it's planned obsolescence too. first it gets soft, then sticky, then slowly peels away. The answer is quite simple, really. Logitech is deathly afraid that their brand will go stale if year after year they pump out the same shape. Nevermind that we've been telling them they need to stick to their establish shapes for YEARS, and never mind that they enjoyed massive success with the MX518 rehash and the exteded G502 family. But no, the marketing people insist that Logitech should be a brand of "innovation", even if it means parting ways with what _clearly_ works and leaving the success of the new products to chance.
To be fair, many of Logitech's cherished classics weren't received well at the beginning either, with G305 being ironically one of them, as it was a slight departure from the "tried-and-true" G100 shape. People did eventually warm up to it, so hard to say if the G309 will be the same.

@@BrotherO4it's very easy to take apart a mouse and replace a built in battery. All you need to be able to do is use a screwdriver.

@@GSixFiveFourThreeFourDashTwo that alone makes 95% of users BUY a new mouse.
not everyone wants to track down which battery it uses. so using a standard battery is just better for most. if you want a G pro. there is already a G pro in the market.

I have this mouse, got it when it was basically announced, and along with the g515 it's my favorite setup for both productivity and gaming. Since I work off a laptop for school (plugged into a monitor) and have a separate gaming computer, the ability to switch from dongle to bluethooth with a button is amazing for me and has got me to never worry about plugging in stuff.

My primary requirement in a mouse, assuming the rest mediocre or better, is reliability and longevity. I don't want to buy a new mouse every few months (or batteries in wireless mice), I don't one of the mouse buttons to become hit or miss or doubling. I want a scroll wheel that just works.

I'm a g502 user. I use a wireless mouse for my laptop, but I wouldn't want a wireless mouse, especially for gaming where my desktop doesn't move and I don't want the hassle of having to replace or charge batteries. I also use my g502 with all the weights installed, as my aim has never been good enough for the lighter mouse to matter and I prefer the heavier feel. But I still see why people where disappointed with the g309

When I saw Logitech has EOL my favourite mouse G502 and headset G633 (yes, both are wired peripherals), I went to buy two each as spares for the future. The problem is both devices are still working well and I have no cause to change them out...

I love the G305... the only issue is the left/right click buttons always fail, right after the 2-year warranty period so I have to buy another one. I'm sure this is part of logitech's business strategy. "Mouse as a service" lol

I don't think the G305 clones were an exclusivity thing and were really just the factory they make them in in China decided to make their own because China doesn't acknowledge any IP laws.
Also Logitech's worst move was that like 6 months they tried to change the name to Logi. That was so dumb

Yes and started as one of the crappiest companies out there, i remember in 2004 where people had a Logitech mouse cause they simply had no money for something else.
meanwhile evryone who had money had a mouse from other companies that were far superior back then like Razer.
dunno when that change suddenly happened that Logitech became big, but i simply remember how people laughed at you for having Logitech stuff.

Dunno what went wrong there, i just needed a mouse with a few extra buttons for extra productivity, but in 10 years Logi has not been able to produce a mouse for a normal hand, i swear they all feel like a used up soap bar.

In the early 90s a keyboard was 100usd, a mouse 80usd. 10 years later, the Internet existed, everybody had a computer and you would get cheap keyboards starting at 20usd suddenly. Almost the same quality.
But nowadays we are back to these ridiculous high prices. Mice for 100usd, keyboards for double the price. It's really not worth it, to me at least.
I, personally, don't ever have to buy a mouse again. If I just dig deep enough I will find an old Logitech mouse with cable but no wheel 😅. Before that different Bluetooth mice should still exist, if no battery leakage ruined one. That's annoying, if you finally find that old apple remote thingy and then the battery has leaked and it doesn't work anymore.

The powerplay pad is excellent tech. It doesn't actually need to cover all the mousing area, just the area that is used the bulk of the time - it can just be extended with something to match the height.
However... it does only cost about $5 to make, or could cost that if they cared to cost optimise it. You can't buy a sensor+lens for that price, not even the very mediocre ones. It's clearly designed to be a high margin, low volume product, not a mass market one.
G3 is not an OEM moonlighting Logitech's stuff, it's just a completely different mouse built to the same overall shape. Logitech can't stop it from being sold and bought, but they will stop it from going to retail in most of the world. You should also not cover it with too much praise without trying, including wireless packet loss issues.
But i also doubt g305 is going away to be replaced by g309. People still put stock into Logitech's brand name and their retail access gives them a massive advantage. They can't just exit the 40-50€ price bracket in retail, because people won't be ready to spend anywhere near 90€ on a mouse, they'll just buy random competitor retail mice instead.
I like the changes to the g309 but this is not an adequate price for a mouse powered by an AA battery.

$200 to capitalize on the removed battery weight, bringing it down to 68 grams.
At that point you may as well just get a Viper V3 Pro for $180.
    95 hour rechargeable battery life,
    54gram weight,
And it comes with a 4k polling dongle.
