*Yes* , iPhone is at *80* *Hz* most of the time. This is because Apple intentionally limited the refresh rate to 80 Hz when your scroll reaches a specific speed. They think when your scroll is so fast, all that your eyes can catch is blur, so 120 Hz is unnecessary (which I doubt). I tested it with a slo-mo camera, and it's proven by Craig.
Your eyes can see well over 80hz. Your eyes see upwards of 560 megabits and you can see the difference between FPS upwards of 250 FPS. iPhone does go to 120hz but only when needed. When scrolling your homepage it is at 80hz and it goes up to 90 and beyond when you open different apps. Instagram goes to 120 Hz and so does RUclips and TikTok. It plays most games at 90-100hz because it can't process Minecraft and other heavy games smoothly past that. It stops at 70fps on medium graphics for most games and goes to 60 FPS on max graphics. Good phone all around. Google pixel 6 is still better despite being 2 years old but iPhone is much more popular to the masses thanks to marketing

As an Android user, I absolutely love the iPhone's animations when you are doing things, it gives it a little more personality. However, I enjoy the fact I can download stuff from Third-party stores and the customization Android has. Edit: People seem to have the opinion that I am somehow an "iSheep" for admitting that iPhones have better animations. Also, if people were competent, they would see I said, "As an Android user." Let me explain. A) I say iPhone has better animations because they have more dynamic and interesting animations. Sure, Android is much smoother with the 120hz (very clear difference between 60 and 120) but iPhone has more unique animations when interacting with other devices. B) No, I am NOT an Apple fan. Ever heard of people respecting others? Apple has its advantages, Android has its advantages.
To clarify, apple uses 90hz and clocks its screens up during scrolling or other tasks that involve heavy screen flickering, light or movement change, so in contrast, most android flagships dont really do that, but Apple decided to declare their phones 120hz, because technically they are, but not always.
Most Android Flagships are 60hz ( this is and edit. I was half asleep when I made this comment and I feel dumb now. I know that most flagships are above 60hz but idk what I was thinking.)

Things that iPhone should improve to be "the perfect phone" that you believe it already is: 1. Back gestures on both sides of the screen, in any app, including photos. (useful and Android has it) 2. "Statistics" swiping up on each photo (unuseful from iPhone) 3. Dialing screen only allows to type numbers, instead of recognizing contacts when typing names for easier and faster search (useful and Android has it) 4. No simple pause button on video recording. (Android has it, specifically Samsung) 5. No simple (x) button to close all recent apps with a single tap (instead you have to swipe and swipe up one by one, it makes you look like a dumb). Android include that simple button. 6. No Wi-Fi sharing with QR. (useful and Android has it) 7. Hard to allow share files via BT with other devices that are not iPhones. (At the end, it doesn't make iOS better than Android.) 8. Camera module design (and design in general) without evolving or innovating since 2019. (People just keep buying the same sh*t, over and over again, and Apple executives know it. So, why bother innovating, right? 9. No charger and no accessories in the box (wtf, it's supposed to be the most expensive phone, and even tho it doesn't include all it needs) 10. No Oled screen (some Android has it) 11. No 120 hrz refresh rate (many Android has it) 12. No Fast charging (A bunch of Android has it) 13. No row of numbers on the top of the keyboard (Every Android has it) 14. No infrared port (Many Android has it) 15. No screen mirror on any tv. (useful and Android has it) 16. No settings on each app. (useful and Android has it) 17. Animations on iOS are generally longer which makes the phone feel less smooth. They're eye candy the first 100 times you look at them but after a while they start slowing you down. Too bad there's nothing that can be done apart from disabling animations altogether.
helpp im sorry but have you even held an iphone before? their animations arent even slowing it down, the home gestures literally help you get what you need that fast. the only thing that makes it not smooth is your inability to multitask, bet youll say the same thing to android 😢
@@liannebleh The animations are longer to supposedly add to the UX. Scrolling is also different; both Android and iOS run 120Hz, but there’s relatively less motion on iOS, say when you scroll through text. Text on Android however, moves a greater distance for every single swipe, so there’s more motion on the screen. That may be why there’s people saying the screen is 90Hz and that it’s clocked up or some bs.
@fisayoajisafe9908that was always annoying to me. The smoooooth animations were pointless to me when I just wanted to Google something quickly on my phone.

@@75sRax Finally someone addressed this. IPhone has an adaptive refresh rate and android doesn't. That is why it looks smoother because it's always at 120 hz and an IPhone can save a lot of battery with the adaptive refresh rate.
iOS likes clocking the display lower than 120Hz, I assume for power saving reasons. During the unveiling of ProMotion in iPhone, they did say that they're dynamically adjusting the refresh rate in such a way that you won't notice the change. Funnily enough, the display stays a constant 120Hz during screen recording.

Thank you for mentioning this. Coming from my Samsung S22 and scrolling through the settings menu of an iPhone 14 Pro Max this was the first thing I noticed. Scrolling felt choppy compared to my S22. After further research I figured that starting a screen recording on the iPhone would force 120Hz at all times and after starting one it felt as smooth as my Samsung. Without the screen recording it indeed must be running at 80-90Hz. I guess I'll be sticking to my much smoother S22 for now.

You do know that Samsung also has adaptive refresh rate right? And still they provide a smoother experience while having the same battery life as iPhones.. It all depends on optimization.. If the phone has a 120 hz display, and even though using adaptive refresh, if you don't get a smooth experience, its useless.. It should feel like 120 hz when you want it to..
Ya and the reason they are the way they are is because their parents buy them that phone and never tech them any sort of respect so they hate on people who just buy their own stuff lol and no not all people car afford flag ship phones
Not only that, but Android has an option in developer settings that says "force peak refresh rate" which will force 120 HZ on most or all apps even if they're built for 60 Hz
My brother in Christ....that is an optimisation thing which most Androids also have. It is to avoid wasting battery life for performing at 120 hz. 90hz is solid enough for simple home screen viewing. 120 hz is probably reserved for more visually-focused activities like gaming, video-watching etc. Although I don't think there is an option to turn this off in the ios
It has more to do with android having much faster snappier animations where iPhones animations are slower. On a lower refresh rate like 60 this makes the iPhone feel smoother, but at 120hz it makes it feel slow and sluggish. You'd think that they would prioritize the 120hz for games, but it's actually the opposite, the best place to show off high refresh rate is when scrolling or on the home screen as it makes the whole phone feel snappy and these are relatively low performance scenarios, whereas in most game the phone isn't capable or optimized to run at 120hz since a game is a more performance demanding scenario
@@kadenbirchI see what you are talking about. It may be right, after all, a user spends most of their time on the homescreen or on low-performance apps like social media apps, so prioritising animations in such areas makes the phone look better.
The optimisation is dynamic refresh rate, I think Iphones Pro have it too, I don't see why they would limit animations to 90 because the system is one of the few things that can run in 120, YT and videos will always run at like 60fps or less

@vladaltreilea1431 And don't you dare to bring up stability, heavy workload, gaming and camera. I don't even have to prove anything, because its already on the internet free to witness. Lets also not forget how overpriced the iPhones are for what you get.
I just bought a Pixel 8 Pro and I’ll probably be returning it this week. Unfortunately it only runs smooth when it is at home on WiFi. When on cellular it seems to bog down a bit. It also is terrible at reacquiring data after being out of cell range. Sometimes it gets stuck for up to 30 mins after my iPhone requires signal. I kept the iPhone to compare before I made the switch permanent and I am glad I did. I really wanted to switch but it’s just too buggy. Speaking of bugs the Google Maps app changes view and the whole UI gets really small and all the button disappear. Apps randomly lock up and have to be force closed. Sometimes the whole OS seems to lock up and I have to restart the phone. I really thought after 3 years of being on an iPhone that Android would have caught up a bit to iOS when it comes to stability but it doesn’t seem to be any better. It really is too bad because there are some things I love about Android over iOS but I just don’t know if it’s worth dealing with all the BS that comes with it. iPhone just works.
I predicted this years ago. IOS has been smooth and consistent mostly because of the way most scrolling speed and animations have been slowed down. Whereas Android, given its laggy experience in the past, has been improving its software at the same time maintaining that fast scroll speeds and animations. It's obvious now that they've finally achieved this, giving you the overall faster yet smooth experience.
The fact most people don't realize there's a button in iOS which is turned on by default which sets normal activities to 90 Hz so he's not being truthful
The problem might be due to the ProMotion because it does slow down the Hz depending on how fast you move the screen so therefore it does save battery or is more efficient at least
@daksheshgauba1101not just the flagships. Even my midrange Realme phone has that feature. These iPhone people think that it's a premium feature on only their phones.

Probably due to the A15 bionic, and A16 shifting refresh rate up and down, and sometimes when using an app that involves scrolling, like instagram it lowers the refresh rate when youre not scrolling, so i assume when you start scrolling again everyone once in a while the a15 chip fails to switch the rate fast enough, causing a laggy effect for a split second.

When it comes to smoothness, I believe people aren't necessarily referring to FPS. Surprisingly, a 60 Hz iPhone could be considered "smoother" than a 120 Hz Android due to the system's cohesiveness. It feels like the entire operating system is governed by a single spring equation (thanks to Hooke's Law). This means that elements can be interrupted at any point, flowing and bouncing off each other seamlessly. The system has been perfectly fine-tuned, and although people might struggle to express it, they can definitely perceive the difference (a special mention to Jony Ive). I used to be a devoted Android fan myself, always emphasizing specifications. Specs, specs, specs! However, it's crucial to recognize and appreciate the distinctions between the two platforms rather than simplifying it to one being superior to the other.
@@collinscollins7777my assumption is that the os runs on fundamental spring equations that allow the animations to be interrupted or allow them to bounce off each other, whatever the technology it probably operates on those principles, whether easing or a real spring equation. You’re right in your description but here are some takeaways: 1. iOS in devices with 120hz does run its home screen at a lower frame rate. I’ve swiped left and right and opened the control center on standard iPads with 60hz and iPad Pros with 120 side by side and there is honestly no difference. But it is to conserve electricity for operations that actually make a difference when ran at a higher frame rate. 2. iPhones usually have a better CPU than its contemporary android counterparts (except the gaming ones), which means that swiping to a widget’s page and using widgets will be smoother on an iPhone, which is also bolstered by the fact that the UI of iOS is definitely more carefully designed. On androids, you will more likely see a few dropped frames and some glitches. 3. Both Apple and android flagships are equipped with good processors, which means that when it comes to gaming, they will all run at 120 (if supported).
It’s because of the animations it’s a bit hard to explain but the animations and the scroll with iOS are probably really well optimised for the 60hz screen a bit like v sync works while on the android they weren’t but I always saw that the android had the faster animations while Apple had the “smoothest “ now with the 120hz screens android can have the full potential for the animations while Apple you notice the improvement they aren’t as big as in the case of the android. The only department I notice that the 120hz feel smooth in iOS is on iPads on the native apps that support the pencil input.
@@SameedChowdhury short and most simple answer is no to both the animations are indeed at 120fps but they are not optimised like they are not in synchronisation with the actual screen and that can be noticed with pencil input being much smoother as I said. Also android phones nowadays also have a touch sample rate so high that they also feel faster because they are responding to touch input much much faster
No it's literally just because the screen of the iPhone is not running at 120Hz but rather at 80-90Hz while scrolling. Android phones don't do that which is why they are smoother and therefore better in that department.
Can we agree that the only thing bad about Android is the large number of brands, which leads to lack of support and bad optimization. Lesser the number of phones more polished the system is.
iPhones have an adaptive 120hz refreshrate, meaning it will run at whatever framerate the content ur watching is running at, or whatever game ur playing is running at. Its adaptive range ranges from as little as 1hz, up to 120hz. It’s actually a good thing, because it will save battery life this way, and also kinda works like G-Sync- so basically syncs the refreshrate with your framerate.

Once your eyes are set to 120 or 144hz... 80hz feels like turtoise... But after using 80hz for like a month it feels smooth again

A) I say iPhone has better animations because they have more dynamic and interesting animations. Sure, Android is much smoother with the 120hz (very clear difference between 60 and 120) but iPhone has more unique animations when interacting with other devices.

Not really lol!! I have my phone secure and it has 128gb and 6gb ram. Idk but I am not ever buying Samsung phones again.
I wouldn't exactly call a sd695 "low end".
@@tstandsfortheodore which button is that?

"Really not needed" who is Apple to decide what I need and what not? I want to get the most out of my iPhone that I paid a good amount of money for. It's ridiculous that Apple doesn't give one the option make the adaptive refreshrate run at a 120Hz during motion/scrolling. That's why in terms of scrolling and smoothness, Android phones are way ahead of the iPhone simply because the ProMotion display goes down to 90Hz when scrolling.

How did you get Hooke's law into this??..
@@collinscollins7777my assumption is that the os runs on fundamental spring equations that allow the animations to be interrupted or allow them to bounce off each other, whatever the technology it probably operates on those principles, whether easing or a real spring equation. (Spring equations are superior because they’re reactive, they allow momentum to continue when changing directions)
@@lewis6052 well.. i don't know about that exactly, but android has a bulkier os than apple.. everything in apple is customized and fine tuned to run at optimum performance.. but android on the other hand is triple built meaning its layered down to it's kernel.. and anything added is added on top.. so for it to be smoother means its better.. the comparison of both os was never as simple as people think.. i don't know if what i said makes any sense.. 😂😂😂
No I understand, thank you for your input. It's important for people to understand the differences. Android and the iPhone are both great pocket computers regardless of which one you prefer using the overall main differences are so small these days you can't go wrong with either one 👍🏻
exactly what i noticed when trying both in a store, wouldn't say 90 for the iphone but more like 110 or 100, though the iphone has much smoother animations where android still can't get it right and it's very infuriating.
You know you can literally turn off the animations on android right ? 🤦♂️ And the reason why 120hz of the iPhone sucks it's because it's half ahssed meaning the touch sampling rate is really low and sucks compared to android phones with 1000hz touch sampling rate iPhone feels like a brick compared to an android phone running 8 gen 2 with 1000hz touch sampling rate and animations turned off
You’re right in your description but here are some takeaways:
1. iOS in devices with 120hz does run its home screen at a lower frame rate.
My phone has 144hz
So basically iOS animations weren't updated for 120hertz displays so they look the same? Or is it that the animations are still running at 60fps?
@@SameedChowdhury short and most simple answer is no to both the animations are indeed at 120fps but they are not optimised like they are not in synchronisation with the actual screen and that can be noticed with pencil input being much smoother as I said. Also android phones nowadays also have a touch sample rate so high that they also feel faster because they are responding to touch input much much faster
@@ivimoreira so the input is still 60hertz, or however you would say it
No it's literally just because the screen of the iPhone is not running at 120Hz but rather at 80-90Hz while scrolling. Android phones don't do that which is why they are smoother and therefore better in that department.
the amount of animation an iphone goes through for an ios had it been an android it would explode
Can we agree that the only thing bad about Android is the large number of brands, which leads to lack of support and bad optimization. Lesser the number of phones more polished the system is.
