Who Wrote the Bible? And Why Does it Matter?

Retired Hope College faculty member Barry Bandstra will explore the notion of biblical authorship, with a focus on the Pentateuch (Genesis through Deuteronomy) of the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible. We will analyze certain texts, examine recent scholarly theories of how the Pentateuch took shape, and consider how such theories can - and perhaps should - affect how we read the Bible and wrestle with its moral imperatives.
