Mate! I was losing my mind over these brake pad noises! And I've never seen a hack this good, thanks a LOT Ali!
Would it work on grinding the brake pads on the back?
@@Ali_Clarkson It indeed does! Moreover, for me it silenced the noise even better with the tape applied to the pads edges as well
@@bobergderstecher I think it would very much destroy your brake pistons
I am going to try this one for sure, have a bit of that knocking on my brakes... thanks!
IF you rub mud on your disk rotor & ride bike while pulling brakes on & off will quieten down brakes! if run rim brakes switch to disks?
I do MTB and especially trials since 2003...
And apart the brake pad silencer, I didn't have a single clue of the other things, the zip-ties and QR spacers are AWESOME !
Thank you !
I like the “how it’s made” vibe this vid has!And that zip tie brake fluid hack is full on epic,I’ve debated many ways to get 2-3drops of fluid in the res. to no great avail!like my brakes nice n tight!😳👍🏻 cheers
cheap alternative to Sugru is to mix silicone with cornflour. takes a bit of mixing
I don't often comment on videos, and I really like your content (how hard and long it is even for pros, and how grateful it is when you succeed). And this video is also really cool, because usually top 5 hacks are useless (ie zip tie-ing a tire on the frame to protect it, who does that in real life except for rent ? ugly bike you don't care, beautiful bike you dont want to mess it up with ugly tire).
But those tips are quite uncommon and clever and could really helps in real life. Exactly what you would expect for hacks !
Wow, this is the first hack video that is indeed helpful. Thanx!!!
Ali you are the greatest!!! I have been watching you for years here in Seattle. You are the reason I got into trials. Stay safe, keep it up, we will get though this together. Thanks for sharing
Start of this video had a Blue Peter vibe!
Nice tips Ali! Was really surprised with the ziptie brake topup haha, never thought of that!
nice...bike hacks still exist 😍 so used to enduro hacks ($300 each) these days, this vid was really refreshing. half my bike was diy back in the day lol. personal favourite being the bb guard cut and hammered from a steel pc case. perfect fit on both downtube and bb..of course padded with a layer of old dh tube☺ clunkers forever✊
Great concept 👍 I tried the brake lever hack and it works great but leads to tons of questions.
Thanks Ali, there were some good hacks I never heard about
Awesome Video as always, Ali!! :)
That sugru hack makes riding so much more pleasurable 😅 that really was a pain in the ass😕
I also liked the quick release spacers😊 great hack!
Refreshing to see some new hacks! Awesome tips Ali
Great video, taught me some really useful hacks. Really enjoyed the list approach🤘🏻
Brilliant Ali!!! Thanks so much for the tips.
hack number five saves my ass my brakes are allways making loud creeking noises. Great Video!
Hi Ali, stay safe! Love your content!
LOVE IT.
Love these tips!
Wow thx 4rr having me back .. I needed this!cheers
Those are great! Thanks!
I love the hacks/tips videos!
Another good one from ali 👍
the brake fluid top up hack was pretty useful and so simple! thanks!
Really cool hack’s Ali ! 🤩
EXCELLENT video , really helpfull ... please do more !
Loved that getting a inspired flow next month can’t wait 😝will use some of these keep the videos coming mate
Cheers mate
thanks i’ve never seen any of these before 😁
Bro YOUR awesome. thanks a lot for all your tips, you helped me getting started with street trial
always needed this man thanks
this video was awesome! I want to find that rubber stuff!
You can also just use contact adhesive, not as good & tends to shrink as it drys but easy to get hold off!
The brake pad tip is very useful thanks 🤘
Great vid dude
Hi Ali, great video. I use an old eye dropper filled with mineral oil in lieu of your zip tie trick. Works great for a quick top-up on the trail too, if you notice your brakes are feeling a bit weird mid-ride.
I really like the brake pads hack! thanks for sharing :)
Great tips! Thank you very much.
Ali’s bike hacks :)
I love this channel!!!!!
Thanks Ali !
Solid gold and very RUclipsy!
Aw man, a few days ago I changed my right breaklever to shigura and it was a total pain and I got oil everywhere. I should have found this video earlier.
my bike engineer refuses to do it, even though I said I don't care about the warranty on the Magura caliper :)
Great tips! 😁👌
awesome video Ali
Quick tip, while you have your zip tie out, and have bled your brakes, if they are not quite 100%, simply wrap the zip tie around the lever to pull a slight amount of pressure on, and leave it overnight.
With the lever opening the bleed port inside the master cylinder, air is free to flow upwards out of the system
it definitely works.
again, not a replacement for a perfect bleed. but great if you are away from home or don't have the time for a full bleed.
I learnt the trick on motorbikes, works just the same
great video 👏
Good video 🔥
Good Stuff!
Awesome tips thank you
Really digging these "tips" videos. I'd like to hear your thoughts on brakes, specifically 180mm vs 203mm rotors, what does it change, power, modulation etc. Seems like 203mm is the size of choice for many.. cheers!
Thanks! It is helpful!!
Cheers for those tips Ali, I don't ride trials much but I do run a front brake hose through the steerer of my DJ bike. Brake silencing isn't so much of a problem on a DJ bike, we don't use them much to start with and the only noise I do notice is squealing from cold sintered pads :-)
Tip #6. If you got a brake but not very good use a elastic band/cable tie to squeeze the leaver over night. It helps the air come to the top and sort of self bleeds
Thank you Ali 🤗🤟
Great tips.
Another great video.
I stole the Sugru tip as soon as you showed it in the first bike check you did.
@@Ali_Clarkson Saves on blood & plasters too!
thx for the usefull tipps, will think about them, the next time i mess around withmy bikes :)
I can't believe how underrated this channel is. 100K 2020 ?
I thought you was going to session that bannister Rail.
Good way to end up with a wood stake up the booty.
That ziptie hack pissed me off.. ive been making a mess for no reason when I clearly didn't have to. So simple.. i used to do that qr headset spacer bodge
Shigura brakes, nice!
All very helpful hacks .
i like these tips but i surely can't do your tricks when weighting in at 280lbs.
i used to do jumps & stuff on BMX in the 80's & even then i was a heavy set rider.
i always wished i could be a "light" weight but that never happened.
i was fairly "nimble" for my weight in the 80-90's but that is now all gone.
i enjoy your videos !
Tyre change?
O and yes I do like these kind of videos 😁👍
Ali you can use sticky finger brake lever grips as a nuckle bumper
Freestyle brakes like Old MX diacompe brakes or 1989 Shimano XT brakes work great for the rub.
I'm not a trials rider, but a lot of these would be great for bike polo!
Please more this Hacks videos😁😁😁👍
the brake lever one got me for sure ! ive actually pinched my middle finger in between the bar and lever so hard i thought i broke my knuckle :-/
I like your Videos 👍😀
I have no job and no income now either, but I’ve got a eMTB and some great local trails,so not all bad.🤟
I have an idea use a brake less bike with no spacers
Remove brakes altogether. Not only will they make less noise, your bike will also be way lighter!
look up flip he is a brakeless street rider who rides a steel comp style bike. epic stuff
That's how freestyle BMXing is done. Can even put a fixed gear on for better control.
Have you had any ill effects of cutting the spacers? This would be a great hack for my dirt jump bike as well as others that I work on. Love these hacks most will work for any mountain bike! love it thanks for the share, hope you don't mind I may reuse some of these and point people to you for the ones I use.
Kool video ali
That suguru. I thought it was a package of condom
@@Ali_Clarkson hey you told us to behave in the comments, with the long and thin
@@breadunslicer8580 LMAO
For hs33's I recently discovered that instead of grinding your rims again, you can use an eraser to get the rim clean again. I mean it won't help you get a rough surface on the rim but it definitely improves braking performance because I feel like it helps to remove greasy stuff and dirt. :D
Any hint of wet on the rim and braking performance falls off a cliff with an unground rim though. Lots of riders in countries with dry climates rub tar on the braking surface to get ridiculous bite and hold.
@@peglor yeah, i was talking about an already grinded rim. But instead of grinding again you can get a bit more lifetime out of your existing grind by getting the rim clean again with an eraser.
@@peglor also works if you put too much tar on the rim and want to get it off 🙂
Ali you should do a full video on Shiguras :) If you can stand to bleed the breaks It would save a lot of us money and we can send the dosh saved to your paetron / paetron haha :)
Oh, hells noes!! Eye dropper does the fluid the non union method!!
Is it possible to do the ziptie bleed hack on some Magura hs33
Nice tips, thank you very much for the vídeo
What are the proportions you use in your stem? 80x35?
Estou I'm starting at Street Trials and I need to adapt a stem to use on my bike because there are no sale in my country
keep your eye on Seth
i get the feeling he's running out of hacks
Heh the ziptie hack is great for the accidents - if you happen to have the fluid in hand - but when you change a new lever planned, why not just use the shimano cup and keep tapping the plug stick at the hole until your reservoir is full?
@@Ali_Clarkson The best ten bucks you can spend, I tell you.
A funny anecdote... Shimano changed the bleed nipple threads in the newest road levers. Instead of selling another plastic cup that lasts a year even in shop use, they supply an adapter with each and every new-threaded STI-lever they sell, even to OEM.
For the brake pads you could actually use brake lubricant instead of tape. Is the same as for the car brake pads.
Hey Ali I'm a fan of the hope brakes I'm running the tech 3 e4 setup just wandering your thoughts on them for trials as I'm more a trail rider than anything else but just wandered what you think of them for trials
I know the maguras are a lot more bitey for trials iv still not serviced mine not done anything but add race matrix pads from uberbike components lol still strong as
6:11 was a really nice touch..............Thankyou
BTW, i HATE your red runners, REALLY HATE them !
you could buy those lever sleeves instead of the sugru hack
Great video.
Nice video Ali. I have been following your Channel for a long time now, and i often wonder why you still go for the long video format (25 minutes +). I have a feeling that a shorter format (like this video : sub 10 minutes) would gather more views. Even though it would require more edit work on your side. Anyway, this is just a feeling. I am not a youtuber. Thanks, and keep up Ali! Your Channel is well underrated, as Seth's bike hack said a few years back!
@@Ali_Clarkson Once the video is as long as it needs to be then it's all good - don't try to make long videos short or short videos long. Since there's very little money to be made with sub 10 minute videos on youtube (From what I've heard anyway and explains why so much youtube content is best watched at 1.5 speed these days), and most of your income is from Patreon anyway, there's no need to play to youtube's algorithm at all.
Ali Clarkson I completely understand! Thanks for taking the time to answer 🤘😁
Hi Ali,
I remember back in 2007 we had in Romania so many riders on the streets we had queues at every riding spot.. The shops were packed with street / dirt / trials parts... Today I can count on my fingers the riders on the streets, the shops no longer have parts for such disciplines apart from grips, pedals, maybe tyres. Back in the days, tartybikes was full of custom parts, today you barely have any options to some parts. I can see though, the Mountainbiking community is the same, or even bigger.
I have a trials bike with parts from tarty build back in 2011, but if now something breaks, I see tartybikes the only option for Romania.
Do you have any bigger picture / insight? can you also address the interest in trials / street / bmx nowadays?
Thanks!
Magura calliper and Saint levers?
Большое спасибо👍
Cheers🤟🤙
I need to change my spacers, can anyone tell me how high the risk of loosing fluid is? I turned the lever upside down so it shouldnt spill any there, but my cable is now facing down because of that. So im a little concerned the hose will spill fluid when im gonna remove it..
Can u send an inspired arcade my way😂😂 I am an apprentice so no chance of saving for one just yet
great tips
ta
Good vid, Ali. We're all kind of in maintenance and tweak mode right now so this was well timed. Now you need to do a small space ride challenge like Jitsie is running right now, but a street trials version.
Do more
Hey Ali, I am brand new to this sport. I am 6'1" and looking to by a Trails Bike to learn on. I live in New Jersey (USA). Looking for a recommendation on what size to buy? Seat or no seat?
@@Ali_Clarkson Thanks for answering!!! I've done a bit of both (BMX street riding in the city and MTB on trails). I can't seem to find any Bike shops in the US that sell Trial Bikes.
Who uses more Sugru? Ali C or DIY Perks???
Sugru is one of the most famous inventions to come out of Ireland in recent times. The name is a modification of the Irish word súgradh, which is the verb for to play. The ú is pronounced the same as oo in poo, and the adh is pronounced as aaah :-P... Since Scots Gaelic is very closely related to Irish they are likely to use a similar word.
Are you running mtb tires?
