There's also a possibility of parks getting removed from this merger or closing down completely. The smaller parks that have less rides and attractions that haven't got anything for years will be the ones to look out for. Both of these companies did damage to Geauga Lake in Aurora, OH.
In 2000 Geauga Lake became Six Flags Ohio with 4 new coasters and expanded water park. In 2001 Six Flags bought Sea World of Ohio, which is across the lake, and was renamed Six Flags Worlds of Adventure. That side was turned into an animal park. In 2004 Cedar Fair bought the park and went back to its old name Geauga Lake. The animal park was turned into Wildwater Kingdom. In 2007 Cedar Fair announced that Geauga Lake will close the amusement park side of it and keep the water park open. Wildwater Kingdom closed in 2016 closing the final chapter on the property that Geauga Lake and Sea World of Ohio used to be.
Some of these amusement parks could be in danger with this merger. And could end up to what happen to Geauga Lake.

There is a possibility of the company selling off their parks but at the moment they have not stated that, and for the time being, are planning to keep all 42 parks and yes, I understand it's a pr statement, but we really don't know yet. Geauga Lake was acquired by Six Flags, and they mistreated it, investing and adding rides like it was Cedar Point, but it wasn't. Six Flags also at the time had gone in debt by purchasing several parks and then heavily investing all at once creating the massive debt that led to them selling lots of parks including Geauga Lake. As for what Cedar Fair did, to not get controversial, as far as I know they tried to fix that park, but the damage was already done and made the controversial decision to permanently close the park. Coming back to the present, these companies are not putting themselves into more debt by merging as none of these companies are purchasing one another. The goal is to relief themselves of their debt while at the same time continue to thrive under a possible future economic recession, and in the long run, receive more revenue to then return into investments for the parks.

I was around for the Paramount buyout and there was similar panic back then. The big talk was "it's only gonna be coasters. The other aspects of these parks will die" and it ended up being the exact opposite and the best thing to happen to those parks so excited to see what happens!

It's NOT Six Flags looking for help Cedar Fair is seeking help, and Six Flags has offered to bail them out.

This is going to be bad, especially for Cedar Fair parks. On the conference call, Six Flags parks will take priority over Cedar Fair parks. Cedar Fair parks will basically become the red headed step children. Quality will go down. Cedar Fair kept pushing that they wanted parks in warmer climates with year round operations which is what Cedar Fair wanted. I personally know two people from Cedar Fair and they had already been moved to Charlotte. They are going to move everyone out of Sandusky after they had promised the city that they would keep a foot print in Sandusky. Several parks are going to be sold or possibly closed. People are going to lose their jobs. Mergers are never good. Prices will be increased immensely. Season passes will be outrageous. It will cost you 50 to 60 to park your car. The patrons of these parks are going to take a hit.

@@MrKsanders1985 they can pay down debt which frees up cash flow. Haven’t you noticed Cedar Fair’s recent additions have been very Six Flags like?

As much as I understand and appreciate your concern, I have to disagree with you. For one (and I get you're most likely exaggerating) it will not cost that much for Parking. For season passes, I'm sure the "pass for all parks" will be expensive because those 42 different parks. Other than that, regional parks will most likely increase but not by an absurd amount. Most passes by both chains for 1 park are still roughly around the $100-$130 range. Meanwhile SeaWorld and the Hershend parks season passes cost roughly $200 or more for one of their parks. When it comes to Charlotte headquarters, Cedar Fair has been head quartered for years. In fact, the method of how the company will handle business at the Sandusky location while keeping the main headquarters at Charlotte is already what Cedar Fair has been doing. As for focusing on the Six Flags parks more, it makes sense. Six Flags parks are roughly not in the same shape and standard that Cedar Fair has for their parks and will most like invest more towards them to make them up to Standard as that's what they did to the Paramount Parks. When it comes to other parks closing, they clearly have not announced that nor plan on it. The goal is to relieve the companies from debt and have more money to spend and invest into all their parks. Could this happen, yes, it is possible to happen, but we simply don't know that and to say we do is irrational. Also, just because a park doesn't get a coaster does not mean it's being neglected. Not every park in both chains are "coaster" parks and those parks receive investments differently. There's more to parks than just rollercoasters and families go to parks looking for a premium experience, not just coasters.
