Crazy thing is when long standing records finally get broken they usually do get shattered. It's the records that only stood for a couple of years that get shaved by a little bit.
That recorded should've been broken by multiple squads...there were so many texas teams that had the speed to break the record but had jacked up handoffsand were still running like 39.9 or around 40 flat.
Virtually PERFECT passes and FANTASTIC speed, especially the anchor! The previous record of 39.76 was set by Wyatt Fort Worth in 1998. Before this race, Wyatt’s time was one of only FIVE high school 4x100m relays under 40 seconds….and one of the other four was ALSO run by Wyatt in 1998. Humble’s time was SO fast that Duncanville, running 39.65 in second place, also beat Wyatt’s record and they weren’t even CLOSE to Humble Atascosita’s time of 38.92! That is an improvement of 2.113%! Let’s put it another way. In the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships, 17 of the top 24 teams set Season’s Best times. Humble would have finished SIXTEENTH! Nebraska was one of 12 teams setting a SB time ahead of Humble’s time and only beat Humble by .01 seconds. Humble time was better than Oregon, Campbell, Arizona, Arkansas, Alabama, Purdue, Louisiana, UCLA, and South Florida! AMAZING!
California has always sent representation. Obie Moore (sp) ran there in HS and a whole contingent from Long Beach Poly for many years. Would be great to see more states represented more consistently.
We dont care about penn relays. It's better meets to go to than that. With better competition. Penn relays was a big thing. Juat like texas relays was big, texas relays haven't been big since 2009 2010 2011. That's when all the fast teams would show up in tx. Now the fastest teams in tx dont really go to tx relays any more.

Dangit! Well, we had it for a while, it was just a matter of time somebody got us! 1991 Killeen HS 39.9 / Jasper HS 39.77 (1992) - we thought no one would ever touch us...ummm, that's not true! Them boys were running like the rent was due!!
That was 91 Killeen went 40 flat and jasper 39.9 in 4A. I ran for Ball we finished 4th behind Killeen willowridge and I believe Odessa.... Bronson achored that jasper team we came out the same year in 91

I ran with Chapel Hill (Tyler) 4A sprint relay in the same regional meet. We had the fastest time going into the finals by time clocked 40.3. The Jasper team switch their fastest man from 2nd leg to third leg (Bronson) in the finals and literally broke the National High School 4x100 meter relay record that night. Timed 40.14, but the time didn't stand as a record till state. In the state meet, 2 weeks later they recorded time of 39.9. That time was recorded to be the National High School record in the country in 1991. 4A was out running 5A in 91. Minor from Paris 4A broke the national record in the 400 meter in that same state meet.

I was a freshman as an alternate for our sprint relay back then. In the 100 meter dash I have out sprinted most of the 5A but never Willowridge's Mike Miller.

Our kids are qualifying for the State Championship meet while Penn is going on. The first weekend in May will be epic! Every team in the 6A final of the 4x1 will have run at least a sub 41, with multiple sub 40s.
Since the penn relays this year are between the regional meet and the state meet, they might be able to go. They should start a go fund me page to finance the trip. I believe I would even contribute.
