Also if it’s your thing you just cannot beat the growl that a Marshall will give you. A lot of people don’t like them because they say they are too bright but a good mid boost and some decent speakers can soften that. I like bright tight sounding amps so Marshall has always been my go to.
That's one thing I like about Marshall DSL amps compared to 5150s, rectifiers, and PRS MT15 amps. Marshalls sound open and uncompressed unlike other amps. I'd love to get a DSL100HR or JVM410H if I have the space to crank a tube amp.
I have the DSL 100 HR and decided as much I like it when a 20w version became available on FB marketplace for half of new and mint shape I bought it ....has been my go to amp for last 2 months!!
Regarding the Peavey amp you had. I had the 20 watt piranha head and all it did was fuzz all of the time. A buddy of mine who repairs amps said it was the power section. A lot of the newer Peaveys tend to humm alot. They have cheap chinese transformers made with blueprints for American electrical systems. The wiring/earthing in shops is usually sufficient to cancel the humm but house wiring can be sub par. With amps like Orange and Marshall the power section has better earthing and is equipped for changes in voltage. He said a lot of the newer American amps make noise on our (European) electrics. Hope all goes well with the Marshall. Take care.
hey, i've got the same DSL20 head, and looking for a Marshall cab to pair with this head. Not much choice in my country, is the 4x12 1960AV too loud for home practice ?
I should have mentioned earlier. I got a used 6505 120 watt for $450 used. It’s a bit of a tank but it sounds yuge. I can’t blame you for not wanting to go with peavy ever again haha
-Thx bud im pretty happy with mine its very pedal friendly and sounds good - i also got a sc jcm800 20w, it was MUCH LOUDER but at first playing i was havn probs with the loop and didnt pursue at this time
I’m glad I watched this, your knowledge and playing were what I was looking for but didn’t expect lol. I have the peavy and it sounds killer with a 7 string, fortin 33 or tube screamer and gain only on 8/9 o’clock. I was on the fence having read many bad reviews about the quality. I think you were unlucky. I miss my old shitty Marshall mode 4, garbage amp blew up randomly but when dialed in roared. Looks like I’ll have to get one of these.
Have you tried the DI on this amp? if so, how good/bad is it? I've read that for silent recording you can keep everything connected, but set the output switch to STB...
I had one of the first run of these, liked it but it had an issue that Marshall said was a software issue...? Can you tell me if the effects loop levels (delay, a loop, verb or whatever) change when you switch between channels?
I was saying the same exact thing when I got mine - “did I really buy a Marshall?” 😂 totally surprised though. The dsl20 is a sweet little treat. You can also leave the amp in standby, and it will monitor, through the emulated output. You need to keep a load on the head tho, so stay plugged into a load box or the cab.
@@alexdenton6586 Im superstitious and would still leave a cab plugged in 🤷🏻♂️ but have since gotten rid of the DSL. Noisy as hell and I could never stop fiddling with the controls. Key indicator that I was not happy with it lol just not into the Marshall tone
I am having an issue with a Peavey Invective right now. I have already replaced the tubes and biased it It is still not right. Fault light is on and gets really hot and does not sound as good as it use too.
yeah, i´m thinking the same. the peavey handles low frequencies a bit better. but stylistically i quite like the marshall, too because it has that dirty mid range grind to it.
in the "noise gate in effects loop" you keep talking pedals not pedal, are you plugging the boss in the loop also? that of course would not sound as intended.
“These built in mic simulations are just awful” - Exactly! They also have a tendency to make different amps all sound the same... i.e. a small lunch box shoot out :)
I wouldn’t run a plain overdrive into an effects loop. Now if you have a preamp to put in there to give yourself more options for you gain stages that would be cool.
Also, ich hab keine Probleme mit dem kleinen Peavey, nur meine Nachbarn "lieben" den 20 Watt Modus. I don't have any trouble with the Peavey 6505 MH. And my neighbours "love" the 20 Watt mode🤣
I love the DSL 20, but i dont like 7 and 8 strings guitars. But with that 7 strings guitar "djent" tone i think the Peavey 6505Mh sounded better and more natural. In my oppinion low doesnt mean hevyer. I think 6 strings guitars sound so mutch better, agressive, clear and HEAVY! Cheers from Portugal 🍺🤘🇵🇹🎄
Interesting thing I learned after the vid par this head being a beast, Mainland Europeans like the Americans call Valves tubes instead. Terminology is weird, in the Uk they are valves. Also boost wise I've started using the Laney irt pulse with this, it adds all the sonic punch you need with the two extra valves driving the dsl.
the marshall has a butt load of low end. i need to dial that back quite a bit and raise the mids all the way. the peavey is more balanced. but as i also said, i think the peavey is very unreliable.
@@user-vm6nm3yx3k bugera 6262 is a good peavey 6505 clone, orange terrors are pretty good too, and evh 5150 III 15W. these are all decent amps that i'd choose for that money. PRS head is also a good shout
I have got the same amp, love it.😁 How was it possible to connect to PC Interface without connecting to your cabinet?I thought it would damage the tubes if the output is open and not connected to 8/16 Ohm load. Also interesting that you used an OD pedal before the gain channel. I use the clean channel with a distortion pedal as second channel and the Amp's gain channel primarily. And I don't like the emulated output feature as well. Sounds too muddy.
Will you eventually do a video where you discuss your thoughts on digital modelling and analog gear? As in an in depth talk about the pros and cons, and your findings having spent time with both. I really enjoy the vids where you talk about gear and your approach to things. Would be nice to see..
yes, that is definitely on my to do list. but it takes some more time to really gather all my thoughts in the subject. there are so many viewpoints and aspects to consider.
oh wait, did you mean because of the peavey having problems or the fx loop of the marshall having problems? either way, i´m totally sure it´s not the power supply for the pedals. i tested things quite thoroughly.
@@ForTiorIJohnny i mean not power cable,i mean your flat connection. Maybe it have only two cords, plus and minus and didnt have ground on it. Just first thing that come in mind)

Marshall was a big surprise, indeed! Played a JCM in the 80ies ;-)
