  • One billion dollars. That’s how much money Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has raked in for Ubisoft since its launch in late 2020. So while many OG AC fans are unsatisfied with the direction this franchise has taken in recent years, it’s clear that the RPG model is here to stay.
In this video, I’ll be reviewing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and telling you whether it’s worth your time today. We’ll dive deep into the combat, stealth mechanics, quest structure, exploration, story and the major DLC. There will be some spoilers during the story section, but don’t worry I’ll warn you before diving into all that.

The male Eivor voice actor is hands down my favorite part of the game.
His voice actor does such a good job at portraying this more leader-like Viking and fits the game's narrative more imo. Also flyting with him is just perfect.

The most interesting part of the raiding in this game is that... if you kill civs you are disconnected from nexus (even if they are wandering in the middle of a big fight), bc vikins never did such things like killing innocent ppl. Makes sense...

    • @tutorialchief

right, because viking is not what Hollywood or netflix shows you, its quite the opposite, the word itself simply means seafearer, in ancient germanic societies you would be thrown out or killed when being a alcoholic, rapist, thief or other immoral guy, those people were natural this way, not like abrahamics preaching to be so and in reality are the wolf in sheep clothes

The story is absolutely fantastic - _FAR_ superior to any other AC game - the combat is brilliant, and the world locations are on par, or possibly even better, than any other game that's ever been made; travelling around Middle Ages Britain, seeing all the historic locations and learning about historic people, is absolutely wonderful. I couldn't ask for more. Aside from that, the little puzzles all around the place are interesting and fun, the gear is tremendous, the little World Events are a lovely addition. My main issue with Valhalla is that I don’t care for the secondary characters. So the story feels long, I have not finished the game at all. In the very beginning just finished Mercia and decided it wasn’t worth my time. The main story is about me betraying Sigurd, yet I barely spend time with him. I don’t feel like I should even be loyal or feel bad about the choice. Is just the story l, I guess, is too slow.

Is so funny how shit changes so quickly. So after leaving this comment I decided a couple of days later to try the game again. And so far I have enjoyed it because instead of trying to beat the game story fast, I just decided to immerse myself in the world and it’s people. I just finished East Anglia and started the crossover story between Cassandra and Eivor. Honestly it’s been great, not a dull moment so far. It takes a while for the story to start kicking in, but when it does, it actually gives me a good payoff. Still, the game is super long and the Order aspect of it… is honestly the least interesting part. I wouldn’t say that’s necessarily bad, is just not the most important story beat of the game.

As someone that likes long games (hell I play Skyrim, Witcher 3, FO4 etc as my favorites) there is a point where if you don't keep pacing the content well and making things fresh it starts to wear out it's welcome, however. AC: Valhalla hits that point, and I think the primary reason is that unlike most other very large games you don't get much of a chance to go do another branch for long. The side content are just these tiny 3 minute long (no exaggeration look it up that's the average) things that there are a few of in each region.
If I need a break in Witcher 3 or Skyrim I can be like "okay let me go do this faction/questline for a while or wander over here and see what's going on." There isn't really that in AC: V. Some of the post launch content kiiiinda tried for more of that, but even then, you're in some way or another following the very disjointed main questline 90% of the time.

Out of playing all the AC rpg trilogy fully with about 100+ hrs in each of them dlc included, no question AC origins is the best of if the 3 and it’s the best AC Ubisoft had made since revelations hands down. Odyssey was fun just cause if the Demi god abilities I like how it really dove deep into the isu and with Valhalla I just appreciated how they connected all the AC games together, you see the crystal ball in Vinland arc that’s soon to be used by Conner in AC3 and you hear Ezios voice in the Odin visions. And most importantly some closure on what happened to Desmond now I can finally say after the whole thing with “AC died when Desmond died” has been officially over they can finally move on now and move onto live service title with AC infinite lol

Origins was very good it had a perfect balance of size, story and gameplay. Odyssey and Valhalla took the demi-god route, so their a little “easier”.
I like how origins forces you to do side quests just to keep up with the main quest lvl requirements. Valhalla really took it ouf of the park in terms of total size and content, but because of the fact they focused on Vikings, alot of the huge buildings and things of that sort from Odyssey and origins, we were left with more basic buildings that vikings built vs the impressive huge temples that egyptians built.
It makes sense though, valhalla is vikings living in the north hunter gatherers with not much time to build, vs egyptian farmers with the best weather requires to erect massive temples. Historical accuracy aside, valhalla is visually less appealing than Odyssey simply because ancient greece and the vikings had very very different living conditions.

I am excited for Mirage since they are teasing it as a return to form for the series. Sank in 700+ hours in Odyssey testing out different paths thinking there would be different outcomes on the choices and it just felt flat. AC Origin was a perfect balance. I love the OG AC games, was skeptical when Origins was introduced but grown to like it, but after Odyssey I am passing up on AC games with this formula.

Default sex option runs with canon eivor im pretty sure... Also idk about your statement that the rpg style will stick especially since mirage was stated to return to previous games styles... Dont get me wrong itll probably have some rpg elements but unity was the 1st game with skills to a basic degree but no one considered it an rpg and i very much preferred the old style games and the last game i actually really liked was origins mostly because of it's really strong story and not absurd length (it couldve even been a tad longer as the ending felt rushed to me)... also just cos it made a billion i wouldnt grade that as a success element... The viking genre was a popular option that it failed to perfect imo, the story was pretty horrid and i had such high hopes but ive always been realistically critical of these games... Ive bought every special edition since 2 but doesnt mean i think theyre all perfect but this game is the 1st ive still not completed... By normality with all of them i finish the story very quickly after release and then do a 2nd thorough playthrough, this game i never finished and it only ever felt like a chore of a game... A real let down which i wished it wasnt and luckily the dawn of ragnarok dlc didnt interest me otherwise id be pissed about more dlc being charged for on top of the expensive edition i already ordered...
My fav games are 2, 4 and origins... Odyssey had a good story but again felt like a chore and the dialogue options are tedious when you essentially go through them all to finish a conversation and the story impact element just ruins any potential for a better tighter story for this series imo... I hope they change things otherwise theyll probably end up losing me as a long time fan and ritualistic special edition buyer which would make 11 year old me inside very sad 😭

Im guessing with red and hexe they may do something similar to what happened with rogue and unity, same year release but 1 for previous generation consoles and 1 for the new generation thatll (hopefully) be an overhaul of the engine like unity was... I had fun. I still am, 130 hours in. There are certainly painful parts, but I wouldnt say its any worse than other games I played in the past. I actually hated my time more in the MW2 2022 campaign. But its the little things like the unpatched bugs that have existed for 3 years or the stupid missions that make it hard to love. I just got my quiver and ration upgrades wiped and for some reason a bag of rations cost thousands of iron to upgrade, while im spending 500 iron an upgrade on my weapons to upgrade them. I have to hunt for iron, and that is incredibly boring and painful. There should be a patch to this shit by now. And for gods sake, why no ng+???

The next version of AC, you will be a tailor for the AC clan. Not one person killed in the whole game. You just get custom needles and thread to patch holes in outfits until you find the "perfect design". Occasionally, you have to settle squabbles with other tailors, fighting for the same contracts. By fighting, I mean, just some yelling and sabotage to thwart them from obtaining materials from the supply-chain of raw fabrication supplies. Using stealth to obtain that royal-silk, and swap it for purple stained burlap, from the traders.
Bonus, you get to play in all the maps from every past game, and hear the actual assassins' stories about all the assassination's he did. Maybe a couple side-quests with the weapons-expert, who makes the various assassin-specific weapons... I mean, weapon. Which is the exact same weapon in every game. But apparently it has to be "reinvented" every time. (Such a horrible concept for a "creed". DIY-Assassin, without an actual group or faction or order. Other than, by secrets, so secure, other assassins' don't even know about them, until they do!)

You should check out Dragon Ball Z Kakarot since that game is technically an RPG, I mean you can level up your characters, do side quests and explore the world as you play through the story, it does have a little bit of a JRPG feel to it as you can encounter random enemies as you explore the world then the game switches to an arena fighter type mode, and you can have up to two party members fight along side you

Small rpg elements but I wouldnt consider it a rpg game. You do not role play....no choices and the game plays out the same every time. So many games are labeled a rpg these days that I think ppl forget what really makes a game a rpg aka role playing game...and dbz is not one.

I bought this game and Elden Ring at the same time. I wish I wouldn’t have played ER first, played ACV for about 10 minutes, shutting it off because the graphics blew compared to ER.

Lol. It goes the other way tho. Graphics are great in ACV, the combat not that great. ER graphics are not that great, but combat is way better. :)
