Life in Shanghai is probably way more comfortable and convenient than some places in the UK. I think she's lucky for that chance. Maybe you meant leaving the comfort of being around her family and friends? That'd make more sense!

I was an expat. Priced out can’t afford to take me kid to the private school at 60k a year, and he was 5 at the time. Best time ever it’s past present and future changing all the time unlike here everything standing still. We have 800 plus hate groups, guns in school to deal with, and a culture of fixing pothole taking 2 weeks then rework the hole because the 1st time it became a speed bump. We need to get our act together.

Thanks for sharing, don't want to be intrusive but I can't help my curiosity wondering roughly in what range a foreign teacher's salary would be and can it afford the expensive living in Shanghai. Good luck and enjoy your time in Shanghai.
