The guy rented a tour guide, not a girlfriend, the tour guide was doing nothing else but show him around the city. Poor presentation with improper terminology.
Its more of a social experiment i think. He clearly isn't a lonely guy looking for love in a place he doesn't know much about. But he is fascinated by the concept of paying to date someone. Its unusual and he ran out of questions about it so he wanted to ask someone who spoke good English about their experience there in China. That's why he was happy to meet the guy who was part indian. She was scared to answer questions because of the indoctoration of the governments actions against those who do and most likely because of her contraversal occupation may be harassed or shutdown. It is for a vlog so its difficult to get the actual experience unless someone is randomly filming their excort service dates. Even if he had kissed her or something he was likely not to see her again because she would be on to the next date soon...
As a Chinese who went to college in the US. I would argue people in the west are more brainwashed than people live in China. In terms of censorship, it bothers me in some occasions especially in the entertainment industry like movies and etc. But for protests and complaints about the government or public services , there are actually a lot of ways you could do that, for instance, dial 12345 or go to the relevant government offices. Often times problems will be solved quite efficiently. If you live long enough in China and actually learn the language and culture, you will probably have a more unbiased view. People only consume western media will have a hard time understanding the world in an objective way. Not only for China but for other countries as well especially non western countries.
can't agree more. especially about the brainwash part. most chinese citizens don't care about politics at all. on the contrast, some ytrs seem to be brainwashed by the free world propaganda.
I noticed you were super nervous in China, just relax and enjoy your time in China. Chinese people are friendly and welcoming guests from all over the world to China. My advice for traveling in China is always having a smile and get rid of stereotypes and enjoy your trip.
I've been to China as well and it's the only country in the world where I field not confortable at all. I've hated my experience there 😢. I still love Chinese culture and I met many friendly Chinese abroad.

The Chinese only have racial hatred towards the Japanese, and they only have territorial sea disputes with the Philippines. At most, they find the Philippine government very annoying.
We will find the girl on Chinese social media and tell her that you call her “Chinese girl friend for 200$”. What a poor girl to face a disgusting customer as a tour guide😅
She was a tour guide, not a paid girlfriend. Putting price tag and claiming you paid her as a girl friend is not just misleading but also disrespectful. This is misogynist at peak and we have been trying to find the girl in this content so she can properly sue you for defamation.

Well, China doesn't respect international shipping lanes, bullying smaller countries. And if it weren't for the West, China would have invaded Taiwan. China doesn't respect liberalism; they want to dominate. I like China, but I won't believe in fairy tales either. If they want to invade a liberal democracy, they can try, but the US and its allies won't just look on. No propraganda, just facts...
Propaganda? Literally the country that uses the most propaganda in the whole world is China. I mean WHY can’t Chinese people answer ANY of those questions?!?!
Talking about freedom, it's a perspective. Chinese love living in harmony, happy, safe and sound, good life, good well-being, and prosperous. Nothing else matters. In addition, they trust their government, it's evident china has managed to reduce poverty, get stronger and confident.

Censorship is sensitive only in the political sphere; in most areas of life there is no censorship. No country is free without limits. The girl, as a part-time chargeable tour guide, doesn't seem cheap but considering the wages in Shanghai, the price is still acceptable. If I were to travel abroad alone, I would also hope to have a kind local guide (especially one as beautiful) to take me to experience the authentic local life. It would help not only to avoid being cheated but also to experience the real local culture and cuisine in a shorter period, or to save a lot of travel time (since time is very precious during a trip).
@ithwind574 Of course, some people earn a salary of 8,000 while others may earn 30,000; different people have different price ranges. You might even find a university student volunteer who would not require payment. This girl belongs to the part-time category; as for part-time, in my understanding, this pertains to your official daily pre-tax salary (22day/mo). A monthly pre-tax salary of 20,000 to 30,000 for white-collar workers in Shanghai is not a very exaggerated figure. And she has to be this pretty :) Moreover, the girl he rented in Japan costs 400 US dollars. The wages and cost of living between Japan and Shanghai are not yet at the level of doubling.
he treated her badly and wonders why she didn't like him. then he used the title to insult her to the world. not much of gentleman, but there's a reason he needs to pay for it
You're the first travel vlogger who have a skeptical view of China coming in. As someone who wants both the positive and negative inputs, I appreciate your unbiased take. Also, it's funny most people complimenting your handsome looks are men. Lol. Also same in your Philippines series. Lots of male Filipinos say you're handsome.
Yes lol accent comes only from who you are mostly around. Not tied to the race. If his mother moved to india from china for a few years then her accident is gone and she has a child then everyone is speaking indian around him when he learns. Then he goes to China and only a few days and his accident is the same but after awhile will change with what he hears the most :)
The British guy thought he rent a girlfriend, but the girl maybe just want to practice her English not only for free but also get a small bonus, sounds like a good deal for her😂
He's not renting her because he's lonely lol. Harry is doing it for the video. He's quite attractive. At least a bunch of Filipina women would be all over him if he'd actively look for one. I say Filipina because I'm Filipino and I know Filipino women's taste.
You rented an English speaking local guide. :) I am not sure if that's a girlfriend. There are cameras everywhere bro so women feel safe no matter where you go. I seen kids get lost at a restaurant and asked the mom, aren't you afraid of the kid get lost? Oh don't worry, there are cameras everywhere. :)
As a Chinese, I feel offended and impolite by this video filled with bullshit and ignorance. CHINA doesn't offer any "renting girlfriend" service at all. If I go to your country and find a girl to hang out with. Can I draw a conclusion that I have been treated by your country?
Why are you trying to get her to say anti-government stuff, pisses me off, so disrespectful superior attitude, typical colonial era brit. Of course she will go out with you for free; she likes you bro. She was very modest when the vendor said, "Both of you are beautiful." She told you that the vendor said you are handsome but nothing about herself. She is very cautious about China's policy: "No public shaming of the government." If anything is wrong, you should call the government hotline, and it works better. China helped 800 million people from poverty. The US spends $ 8 trillion on war but no money for the homeless. Does criticizing the government work better? Did you see a lot of homeless in China? What's the definition of democracy? By the people, for the people. The US is a plutocracy, not a democracy; Britain is a vassal state; a vassal state cannot be a democracy.
Actually China is the enemy of the West , All of European Free Countries, and Australia... Totalitarian values don't mesh with a free democratic countries that value freedom of press, speech and expression.

I really like the rent a girlfriend videos hopefully a few more will pop up as you travel . You could tell Maylin was a bit scared to really talk about china but i don't blame her to be honest.
a very creative idea, however, this girl speaks below average English by shanghai standard. you can find tens of thousands of attractive women speaking English like native speakers, as hundreds of thousands of them are educated in English speaking countries.
A couple points. One, i expected her to be more friendly and more fun. Imagine a foreign girl coming to take you on a date in your home country. Two, Chinese people when they are on vacation are really friendly. I have been approached by Chinese several times while traveling and they are outgoing and fun to talk to.
We could have a pre-conceived notion about some things but could still be respectful. But in this case, I feel you come across as being condescending. I'm certainly not implying you should praise China wholeheartedly. Just be honest in your views, but in a respectful way.
I can understand your uneasiness of being in a non familiar country. I’d be the same, it’s understandable. Allowing me point out that adding to your uneasiness was the unfair/twisted perception you had received from the western media. You’re a cool guy willing to absorb and respect other’s cultures evidentiary shown as you immerse day-by-day in China. I am glad your perception of China has changed positively……. without costing a dime from the CCP 😊

@@H.WitcherActually..not every VPN user in china have to watch youtube 😅RUclips is not that much popular in mainland china as you think. The young generation always choose Tiktok/ig/twitter to spend their time.
But the problem is he controls the video. He is clearly trying to drive a point in these videos. So if she didn't say what she said, you and I will probably never see this video. So for example if she didn't say the government would kill her for saying anything bad, he'll simply hire a 2nd lady, and then a 3rd lady, etc ... until someone says the government will kill her. (And if you watch the video again, you'll see that it was he who made these suggestions to her first, and she was simply following the flow of the conversation trying to please him and agree to his lead)
Harry, I started the "Asian persuasian" back in 1982 and never looked back! Not proud of it but, first married to a Thai lady (BKK), and currently to a Filipina. FYI: This lady is GORGEOUS!
There in China, they got a different dating culture, women mostly seeking for serious relationship, so even it's a so called girl friend, it's not a acutally girlfriend, so as the moment you asked the girl to pub, and implied drinking of wine, the girl will not feel comfortable of that.
And you filmed here, not sure if you got her permission, $200 is cheap. Sometimes Chinese boy would have to pay $200 for a meal to meet a girl, and just a meal.🤣

This price is already very high. If you find an ordinary tour guide in Shanghai, $100 is usually enough!

I am glad your perception of China has changed positively……. without costing a dime from the CCP 😊
Harry: how is life in china?
Girl: you know I am Chinese, right?
😂😂😂
If you turn off your video, I will tell you what I don't like about China lol. When Harry asked her if she watches YT, she said No, No, and then says she uses VPN 😂
@@H.WitcherActually..not every VPN user in china have to watch youtube 😅RUclips is not that much popular in mainland china as you think. The young generation always choose Tiktok/ig/twitter to spend their time.
What the girl said is really misleading, in China you don't have to say everything good about China,.
She is such a nice girl🥰
she truly is
Harry, I started the "Asian persuasian" back in 1982 and never looked back! Not proud of it but, first married to a Thai lady (BKK), and currently to a Filipina. FYI: This lady is GORGEOUS!
What is the Asian Asian persuasion is that a book???
在中国好不好 你体会不到吗 怎么总是要去引导别人 说出你的观点 有点搞笑
There in China, they got a different dating culture, women mostly seeking for serious relationship, so even it's a so called girl friend, it's not a acutally girlfriend, so as the moment you asked the girl to pub, and implied drinking of wine, the girl will not feel comfortable of that.
And you filmed here, not sure if you got her permission, $200 is cheap. Sometimes Chinese boy would have to pay $200 for a meal to meet a girl, and just a meal.🤣
@Neverknow4971 $200 is expensive if he has paid for a meal, train pass etc. You got to calculate the overall costs of his "date".
