Some stay over night because its cheaper than taking a taxi. There are 3 different types of places in Shinjuku; 1. Health - more expensive and there is more sanitary practices, 2. Spa - a bit cheaper and more protection is required. 3. Straight up prostitution, shop and Massage - pretty cheap, you hook up and do your thing. Shinjuku is not the only red light district. If you dont speak the language, then youre out. Yakuza and the local police have agreements where these shops should not cause any problems and they are allowed to operate conditionally. If any troubles happen at these illegal establishments, the police will shut them down. To ensure that there is no trouble, the Yakuza (chimpira) will not allow non-Japanese to enter these places. Do not come to Japan to think that you can get sex easily. You should go to Thailand instead. Japan is NOT the sex tourism location. You are a host of your country to visit Japan. Please visit respectively.
