As the area was being impacted by Hurricane Ian, many boats were thrown about, both causing and sustaining significant damage. Multiple boats did sink and some were completely submerged. Fire Department crews were on scene to assess and work out a plan for the leaking gasoline and oil from the boats/damaged dock pumps. At least 8 cars were moved from the parking lot by storm surge, and ended up blocking access.

This is the exception.. I've lived in SW Florida almost my entire life. We only get a whammy storm about every 5to10 years.. the last storm that came through like this was 05.. even Irma, which was 6 yrs ago didn't wipe us out. We rebuild quickly and back to normal. Most hurricanes don't hit Florida, they skirt the state and hit the Carolinas or Louisiana and Texas. I hope this helps. Don't give up on a Florida dream.

Depends on where your coming from. FM is my second home town. Originally from Minneapolis. The place was awesome until around the late 90's. Spent a year as a resident while my mom was suffering from dementia. The entire state has turned into a human zoo. Masses of East coasters are migrating to both the East and West coasts of Florida. Also it's no longer the property tax haven it used to be. Save yourself the headache and find nirvana elsewhere. I did. It's a great place to visit. With this event I'm tempted to pack up and volunteer down there. My thoughts are with the people effected. Love FMB!

      @tristanlong7 Год назад +1

@@TheAgentAssassin not everyone had that option at hand.
The big boats take semi's to move.
The storm was predicted to hit the north, so everyone moved south to avoid it.
The storm kept following us down and eventually we had no option but to ride it out.
Some people were not at their boats because the storm was supposed to pass and the marina had a crew here to keep them safe.
The situation got from bad to worse and the crew got out of here.
We probably would've faired better if we stayed in Boca grande tbh.

Those boats are underwater hazards and need to get removed so the marina, which employs loads of people, can get back up and running because regular folk use those marinas as well. The height of those pilings now look woefully inadequate. They've got to be 12ft or more above mean tide to be of any use in a storm surge.....my heart goes out to the boat owners. Being a boat nut my first thought when watching the hurricane was for the marinas and how the boats were fairing......now that I've learned people have lost their lives and homes have been destroyed it puts it all in perspective. This event will change Florida forever....a retirement home on the peninsula? Ummm maybe not....Wishing Floridians the very best from the UK. You will recover and rebuild for sure.

    HURRICANE IAN - 2022 ?
Hurricane Ian hit like an atom bomb
Consuming the helpless in it's path.
The waters of the deep surged forth
    Flooding everything with it's wrath.
The best of the brave was seen by man
While rescue crews were helping others.
They risked their life and laid it on the line
To save our sisters and brothers.
May heaven show mercy upon the lost
Never to love, laugh, sing or cry
God bless every man, woman and child
Who before their time had to die.
Tears are the raindrops of the soul
    Shed by all who cry
Though the eyes are wet and swollen
With time and patience they dry.
