  • @Swirlingovercoffee
    @Swirlingovercoffee 4 года назад +2

    I think the only two points you missed out on are (1) that the non-hot-swappable variant could be a good gateway drug (pre-built but affordable) for those buying their first mechanical keyboard and (2) that (maybe) the red switches (with o-rings installed) could be the choice of those who have to work within earshot of other people. Other that these, great review. (My Keychron K6 just arrived - non-aluminum, non-hot-swappable, brown switches, RGB backlighting. In hindsight, I don't really need RGB.)

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  4 года назад +1

      Thanks dude! I'm glad you enjoyed the review ;)
      On the 2 topics tho, I kind of agree with you... Somewhat.
      1 - yes, the non-hotswap version could be a gateway drug, hence why I said that taking hot-swap away, it's still a phenomenal board competing against stuff $30-$40 more expensive (by the end of the video) ;)
      2 - The tactile bump on the Brown switches make zero difference in the noise profile, and the O-Rings don't take away that tactile feedback anyway, they just add in the mushy feeling to the keys bottoming out, which I really don't like, so RED + ORings wouldn't really "solve" the issue... (lubing the switches does, spoiler alert hahaha).
      Either way, if you're not looking forward to swapping switches or taking stuff apart to mod, the one you got was "almost" the perfect combo... Aside from the RGB hehehe ;D

    i just ordered the k6 but im new to custom keyboards. do you think spray painting the case and backplate to white would be a reasonable/do-able first mod?

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  4 года назад

      Jason Respicio definitely. I mean, its gonna be more work than relubing and clipping stabs or adding dampening material to the case, but its gonna give it a distinct look for sure and its not “that hard”.
      Its gonna take patience to take everything apart and wait for the paint to dry properly, as well as protecting the inside of the case due to the battery, but should look sick!
      Especially the plate, as it may help with illumination A LOT!
      Just posted a sneak peak of my current mod process on instagram btw 😎🔥

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  4 года назад +1

      Thanks bro! Glad you've liked the video! ;) As for your question, well there are several parts to it:
      1 - Do I still recommend this keyboard? Yes... New video on it coming tomorrow, probably.
      2 - Hotswap + white illumination and plastic frame = best value deal
      3 - I've been using it for gaming in wireless mode and haven't had a single issue. That said, I can't compare the wireless tech here to what you'd see on Logitechs wireless keyboards, for example, which has the same wireless technology that's basically as good as wired connections you find on the GPro wireless mouse (or on the Razer Viper Ultimate, for example).
      Unless you're like, 100% PRO MLG gaming all the way, I wouldn't worry too much about the performance of the K6 for gaming either.
      Just be aware of your battery-life and try to leave the cable close-by so your board doesn't die out on you in the middle of a game and you're left stranded.

      Quick question by the way, which stock switches are the quietest? Reds, Blues, or Browns? Also, on the official Keychron website, they have changed it from Aluminum Bezels to Aluminum Frame. For my keyboard, should I get the Aluminum Frame version, that's hot-swappable, with whatever switch is the best? Also sorry if my English is bad, I am using a translator.

      S.A Sharp-Katana 1st, don’t worry on the english... not my 1st language either hehe.
      About the switches, reds should be the quietest out of the box, due to being linear.
      As for the frame, honestly, didn’t see anything about the new aluminum stuff being the entire frame/case... apparently its still “just” a bezel.
      IF its a complete frame, should be veeeery interesting!
      If its just a bezel, I wouldn’t suggest it... cosmetic and sort of useless, so, skip it unless you really like the idea.

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  3 года назад +1

      There are plenty of tutorials around. One of the easiest I've seen was to take it apart completely, set aside the PCB (obviously), tape down the inside to protect the battery and the cable and go nuts with a spray can for the actual case.
      You can try and scrap the plate or just use metal spray to coat it in white, preferably on all sides, and then just put it all back.
      I guess you could spray paint the buttons as well with the same kind of paint you use for the case, since it's all plastic.
      OH, and you might want to cover the rubber feet so that you keep the grip and don't ruin the rubber... Or replace the rubber strips with white rubber, for a super white look, but that will definitely be a bit of extra pain =P

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  3 года назад +1

      ruclips.net/video/cOH5uVwAoi0/видео.html
      Not specific to the K6, but should give ya a good look at the process... At least the case part, which would be the same for the plate but with a different kind of paint.
      Sanding down the plastics to make them more porous and using primer stuff should make it last a lot longer. The details on it remaining super smooth or a bit grainier depends on how you sand and all that.
      Best to look at the tutorials themselves because I've never done this, personally hehe.

    I love the layout and the classy colourway of the keychron k6 but I love the clean and sturdiness of the drop entr keyboard. I think my personal preference are deeper cases where the key caps mesh with the case well. In addition, I think I like the compact 65% keychron layout. Maybe it’s just because I know drop is a lot more “popular” which means more reassurance but I am very stuck between which to get considering the prices are the same. What do you think?

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  3 года назад +1

      Well.... I have both here, and I’d say its not just a matter of layout and build, because they’re almost for different purposes.
      The K6 is wireless, compact, potentially hot-swap, can have rgb lighting and has built-in features to work with Mac, iOS and Android, aside from windows. The ENTR is a excellently built TKL wired mechanical keyboard with white lighting. That’s it.
      In terms of feature-set, they’re pretty different.
      At the same time, the k6 has a plastic frame, weird side connector, ABS keycaps, lightweight frame which exacerbates typing noises, it only connects via bluetooth (when in wireless mode) and some find that a bad call...
      I don’t mind any of that for the price because I reeeeeally love the K6, and Keychron isn’t as “big” as Drop, but don’t see that as an issue, really...
      Between the two, I’d personally get the K6. It offers more for the $, even if its a different take

I know the last row and first row are different in height because its angled, so what is both the measurements for the first and last row? The frame/base is said to be 37mm in height, so would that mean the first row is about 52mm? and the top row about 57?
    This board seems extremely high and was just wondering what the dimensiosn are from the bottom to the top of the keycaps.

    Hello Sir, I'm actually planning to buy this keyboard.
    Can you let me know that if I can use other keycap sets (like HyperX Pudding Keycaps) or not?
    If yes, then which one's do you recommend other then HyperX Pudding Keycaps at a budget since the right shift key doesn't match size & also for good amount of RGB illumination? U gained a sub BTW :-)

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  2 года назад

      Thanks for the sub, bud! Welcome aboard 🔥
      As for the keycaps, you can fit basically any keycap set that can work with “cherry style stems”, which is the design of the switch “pin” you attach the keycaps to.
      As for pudding-like sets on a budget, that’s harder to say… its been forever since I’ve gone looking for one, as I’ve never personally enjoyed them, but they are probably your best bet in terms of turning this board into a rgb illumination powerhouse.
      Finding something that has the correct keycap sizes tho is tougher… You’ll probably need a full 100-140+ set to have all the options, unfortunately.

    Would you pick it over a logitech g915 tkl? Here on argentina the price difference is not that much (the k6 with hot swap costs about 170 usd after impot taxes) and the g915 can be bought locally for around 215 usd, or is still the k6 a better option even with that in mind?

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  3 года назад +1

      Geez, $170?! Ouch... ;/
      Anyway, the G915 is a good board overall, but whats good about it kinda falls into personal preference, I guess... I mean, it's low profile, great, but that and the switches makes it basically impossible to get replacement keycaps, so there goes your chances to customise the look of the board.
      It's low profile and the switches are nice, but they're not hot-swap, so it's one typing feel forever.
      The Lightspeed Wireless tech is theoretically best in class, but I haven't had any issues while gaming or doing anything else with my K6, so... To what point does that reeeeeeally play a factor, unless you're like über competitive or something, right?!
      Anyway, I'm more into the mechanical keyboard look and feel of the K6 + the hotswap thing... And I'm 10000000% loving the smaller 65% form-factor as well, but again, this is all personal preference, right?!

    • @PanchoBDM
      @PanchoBDM 3 года назад

      @@TechHyped exactly! My thoughts are the same for the factor since i saw the ducky, and the bluetooth option. I don't know if i'll be changing the switches but at least i would have the option. Im not sure if low profile would be worth it as I never tried it on a mech. I use it for programming and gaming and probably will use it wired on the main computer (linux desktop without bt, maybe a dongle will do) and with Bluetooth to my laptop or tablet, it depends. Thank you, i'll think more about it since its not only that it costs 170 usd but also thats a ton of money here (almost 1/5 of a good monthly salary and maybe 1/2 of the lowest, lol).

    Dude, would love to get an answer from you on this: in day-to-day productivity usage, how inconvenient it is to have to use the Fn1 and Fn2 keys all the time? I'm especially concerned with the Mac shortcut for swapping between windows of the same app, which uses Cmd along with the key above Tab - which on the K6 becomes Esc. Would I need to hit Cmd+Fn1+Esc for that? (This is my only concern with the K6, otherwise I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on it.)

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  3 года назад +1

      Sorry for the delay there, dude, but here you go:
      I'm 100% alright with the Fn2/Fn2 keys. You'll use it somewhat constantly, yes, but honestly it's not something you'll even get your self really bothered with.
      Mac shortcut mapping is pretty easy, and since I was already using shortcuts with my previous board (meaning FN+something), moving to this and having to deal with the FN2 option isn't that much of a big deal, and I'm quite happy with it.
      And yes, You'd use CMD + FN1 + ESC, hehe. Really, not that big a of a deal, at least for me. ;)

      @@TechHyped Thanks for confirming! I love the look of the K6, as I’m a sucker for compact hardware like that, but I think I’m getting the K2 instead. As my native language is Portuguese, which uses accented words all the time with characters like `, ~, and ^ (that all sit on the number row on the K6), I think it would be bothersome to have to hit Fn for each and everyone of these on the K6. If I was typing at least 90% on the time in English, I think the K6 would be my choice, but as it stands, the K2 seems like the safest choice.

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, just so you get it, I'm coming from the same experience you're trying to "avoid" or think how is going to play out, because I also need to type in Portuguese about as much (or more) than in english in my day-to-day activities.
      It's really not the most irritating thing ever... ˜ is the only real boring one to keep doing with FN+Shift+Esc.
      ` is FN + ESC, and depending on the mac keyboard you're using, you'll have to use shift for that instead of FN anyways, so it's just another 2 key combo. And ^ is shift+6 in any keyboard I've ever seen (or at least as far as my memory serves).
      The K2 is a "safer" rout if you don't wanna suddenly realize that you CAN'T deal with the FN combinations, yeah, but I couldn't be happier with the small form factor of the k6 here ;)
      Anyway, just trying to lend a helping (and weirdly accurate to your situation) experienced-hand here ;)

      @@TechHyped That’s so cool, man, that you type in Portuguese as well hahaha. Totally pegged you for a native English speaker.
      Well, I did the totally irresponsible thing: got a K2, then *also* got a K6, just to get a hands-on experience with both. I’m already using the K2 for 3 days. The K6 will take a few weeks to arrive since I bought it directly from Keychron, and so it’s an international shipment to Brazil, those take a while. (Got the K2 locally, slightly used.)
      So far with K2, I can barely imagine a better keyboard right now. This thing is so good to use, and also super cool looking. Let’s see how it goes when I get the K6 as well. My guess is I will definitely like the compactness of it, and I will consider it even more cool looking and all, but I will struggle with muscle-memory and will end up preferring the K2, especially because with the K6 I can’t go like “ok, I can consider this my only keyboard going forward, so it’s ok to develop new muscle memory for it” because I will still be using the regular MacBook keyboard and other ANSI keyboards here and there.
      My fear is that I will love the red switches I ordered on the K6 better than the browns that came with the K2, but will be forced to choose between keeping a regular muscle memory or using the reds hahah
      If that’s the case, them I guess I can always get a K3 with red switches down the line as my official main keyboard and sell these two current experiments. Either way, it’s been fun dipping my toes in this keyboard world. Thanks for the answers! You got yourself a new subscriber here. :)

      God dang it this notification system from RUclips... 🤬
      “The irresponsible thing”.... aaaah yes. Spoken like a true future mecha keyboard evangelist 🤣
      There’s always the chance that you’ll fall in love with the 65% form factor, especially since you’re used to a macbook keyboard to begin with, which is a very close match, I’d say.
      But hey, you’re probably waiting a couple (more like “several”) months for your K6 to arrive, so by then you might have beeb able to rethink the idea to go for a K3 as yet another keeb lol!
      As far as muscle memory goes tho, going from a mac keyboard to the k6, windows laptop keyboards, tkl and full-sized boards, once you’re used to the one of them, the other ones come really easily. My 2 major problems are with keyboard without arrow clusters (60% and smaller), and going from more “classical” Querty to Ortholinear, which can be a TRUE PAIN for the first 30-50 minutes (now that I’ve used it for long enough to have a bit of muscle memory for it as well).
      Best of luck with your keyboard journey, my friend! Welcome aboard the team ;)

      Between the 2, if you're up for a wired great experience and you couldn't care less for hotswap, can't go wrong with either, and Ducky is a great take.

      Thats a pretty valid point towards keyboards, actually. You're not sliding them around all that much anyways, so the wireless thing is not really there for performance or efficient use of the devide, being more focused on the aesthetic side of things, and to alleviate clutter, of course.

      Ok, lots'a questions in one haha. Let's go:
      1 - yes wireless for gaming. Just like Razer's Viper Ultimate. Is a direct wired connection MORE RELIABLE? It can be, but that's not guaranteed for sh*t sure! And from my tests couldn't pick up on a difference that'd have me grab the wire for these anyways. The convenience of wireless and the clean setup... Too sweet!
      2 - Yeah, The keycaps are lightly elegant, but definitely a point for improvement. I'd liked it better tho if they had come with the darker stuff in the middle which is how they show them in the site ;/
      3 - Never tested the Kludge (stay tuned tho... Just sayin').
      RGB is weak and I stated so in the video. The fonts on the stock keycaps DEFINITELY DON'T HELP, and it's a major point for improvement. Stoc out of the box, the white illumination is the one to go with, hence why I suggest going for Plastic Frame + White Lighting + Hot-Swap.
      4 - Not sure on the battery. It's easy to get to and I guess you could buy a replacement one that's bigger, as long as it's got the same contact cable/pin, but you'll have to tinker with the inside of the case to be able to fit it correctly. This would probably be THE single biggest custom job this board could have done. Still, I've been using this thing for WEEKS in the same charge and nooooooo issues. Battery life in this thing is pretty dang good.
      Ps: what if we could fit some sort of kinetic energiser or power converter that would transform typing into energy for the battery? Oh geez, I'm gonna lose my mind thinking about this.

      @@TechHyped Thanks for the reply. Have you checked drevo calibur V2 pro. It has the same OEM as the royal kludge rk71 but with Bluetooth 5.0 and 3000 mah battery (rk71 has 1000mah). please review both as there's only one review for wireless version of drevo calibur V2.

      Bro, sorry I forgot to answer you lol.
      Anyway, I haven't used the Kemove, so I can't really comment between them... BUT what I would say is:
      1 - 60% is almost a no-go for me because of the arrow keys... (personal preference)
      2 - the case is still not metal
      3 - it's more expensive comparatively
      4 - smaller battery (3000 mAh)
      Can't attest to the RGB, construction, feel, keycaps and everything.

      @@TechHyped thanks. I was actually looking for a cheaper one which made me think the keyboard u talked about in this vid could be the one. But as its not a gaming keyboard I should probably just buy the ducky keyboard....

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  3 года назад +1

      I mean, let's state facts. The Ducky board is a "gaming keyboard" first, only in the fact Ducky is more of a gaming-centric company nowadays. There are no "gaming features" that differentiate the boards in that sense.
      If you get a One2SF, it'll be a wired solution, correct? Which means you can grab a K6 and when you're down for gaming, just plug it in and have fun, but you'd still have a fully functioning and pretty dang good wireless keyboard on hand, that you CAN use for gaming in wireless mode (God knows I've done it 99.999999% of the time I've gamed with it).
      If it were up to me, I'd only get the Ducky if you couldn't care less for the wireless thing, but the fact the K6 has hotswap seals the deal in my books.

    Why do u use a wireless mouse

    • @TechHyped
      @TechHyped  4 года назад

      Because there's literally no difference in performance or input lag between the Viper Ultimate and a wired mouse (even the own actual "normal" viper), so there's just no reason not to use a wireless mouse.
      Cleaner look on the desktop, one less cable to worry about and with the K6 as my keyboard of choice lately, the only wire running across my desk is my headphone. Perfect combo for me right now hehe ;)

    I got a Razer Huntsman Elite as a replacement for my Razer Blackwiddow elite (which broke) from razer under warranty (horrible rma experience, took 1 month). After I unboxed it, I used it for 30mins and put it back into its packaging and put it on ebay for sale. Its a pos. As soon as this pos is sold, I will get myself the Keychron k6 with red Gaterons and lube it. Never gonna buy a razer Keyboard again. It sucks.
