Differences of this edit as compared to Ben's: higher resolution, no repeating shots of the performance itself, tons of incongruous filler, and a good number of glaring logical and editing mistakes thrown in as a bonus (because I don't actually know how to edit videos, nor own any dedicated software for that purpose; so this is as good as it's going to get).

I truly believe his best is yet to come as he's so talented. Just hopes he gets quality material to showcase his immense talents. I do believe his latest film, released in Germany on July 1, "I Am Your Man" may be the film to catapult him further. Got rave reviews at the Berlinale Film Festival and it is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on Sept. 17 and on VOD. Can't wait.

So they invited the Russian singer to be part of the movie??? I don't remember the Russian song this year. It says 2020 but we are in 2021. I am very confused right now. The song is good. Dan Steven's hilarious yet touching portrayal will definitely earn him a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a comedy or Musical. This is exactly the type of runaway performance that wins such awards as he stands out and steals every scene he is in.

@@svenner80 But sadly and kind of mind-boggling, he wasn't even *nominated* for Best Supporting Actor as all the nominations went to dramatic roles. No separate category for comedy or musical for supporting roles, ONLY best actor and best actress who have two categories -- best actor in a drama and best actor in a comedy or musical......but Dan certainly put himself on the map with his breakthrough performance and opened many eyes, especially the industry he's in.

He and that jumping gazelle in the background was the best part of the movie.
The fact that he sounded like Bascov and dressed like Kirkorov (the Russian singer the actor was inspired for the personage) was priceless, sadly it’s something that only Russians can appreciate.
But at least the “He/Him” and the “mother Russian don’t letting him to be happy” was evident for everyone, it’s nice to see that they added social/politics criticism presented as a comedy.

You should check Filipp Kirkorov. There is no "lets give", there is a real prototype for this.

Personally I think he's based on Lazarev.
He looked so familiar that I first thought "is he really some russian singer"? Than I realized that he is Matthew from downtown abbey! Besides exploiting some stereotypes about russian oligarchs and trolling gay theme (fairly), the character is surprisingly so positive and adorable. I was expecting some evil twist, but no, just a super hot and reach guy.
A character who has naked Greek statues of himself and is still wholesome AF is a rare, blessed thing.

@@chibiusa4072 He's very wholesome and I love him as a person and as a singer and while his song was good, you can't deny the gimmicky performance with the interactive panel behind him was the focus of the performance.

We'd never seen anything like that at Eurovision - Mans was the first person to have an "interactive" screen the year before and no one had ever done anything like what Sergey did. Hell, I still can't figure out how he climbed the screen and I've watched it from 5 different angles. What Sergey did in 2016 is what Stefania tried to do in 2021, only not nearly as well.

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall during Dan Stevens' audition hahaha.
Actually, he didn't have to audition. The director, David Dobkin, came to him because he had him in mind, thinking he might be able to pull of this comic/tragic role. Dan had to be really convinced, and after the movie was finished, David Dobkin and the entire cast were completely in awe of what Dan did with the role. Beyond all expectations!!
He is very handsome, yesterday i have seen him in the film "The man who invented Christmas " where he interprets the writer Charles Dickens.

He's already proven in drama. The best is yet to come, and his major role in Starz' new miniseries, Gaslit as John Dean, is another winner. It's both comic and tragic. A gifted actor, and oh my, he looks as gorgeous as ever.

So this is what Matthew Crawley has been doing in the next life after Downton…
He's done about 20 films since Downton Abbey, plus a 3-year lead role on FX's Legion and about 35 Audiotapes!! Dan has been a very busy man and achieved what he set out to do when he left DA -- to explore different genres and stretch his acting. And boy, he certainly has!
