So my roof won’t detach or go down burn it I manually put it down the button blinks red and when I close it from the controls it goes up and latches on place with no problem. I’m stuck any advice would help.
You are gonna love this... Remove the entire roof assembly as the reservoir is in the bottom left corner of the car sort of in the corner of the wheel arch. It was the most stupid idiotic brain dead idea ever and If I owned one I would get custom hoses and essentially just remote mount everything. Once you get to the motor reservoir you need to add Aral Vitamol or equivalent fluid holding the motor level and getting the new fluid in the + mark crosshair. Absolutely frustrating I know. To remove the roof is not a huge job but you must tape up the body to prevent scratching etc. Check out more YT videos to see people who have removed them and get a few of your mates round to help you lift out. It aint heavy just awkward as hell. While its out you may as well replace the wiring harness too :)
Hi. Theyre awesome. Just get the car checked before you buy and check the roof works. Biggest issue is the location of the roof pump and fluid reservoir. Google it you will understand what I mean. The water drain is too inadequate so water cannot drain thus pump gets corroded and fails. Remote mounting and re-locating pump is s good idea.
Hi, I came to your video because (surprise, surprise) I have a problem with my Z4 roof! However, I am getting no lights on the up or down control buttons. I’ve checked the fuses and they are fine. Any idea where I should start to look for what the problem is? Thanks
Hi. Do you have a diagnostic tester? I guess you have no comms to the control unit. The switch pack goes to the CVM convertible top module which then sends signals to control the relays. Crucially - the led signal comes from the CVM to the switch pack 🙂 This tells me that a) the cvm has no power or ground, b) the cvm has no k-bus communication (think corrosion in wiring) or c) the cvm has moisture in it and is broken. Very rare if you had no led due to broken wire on led circuit. If nothing works the cvm is likely culprit. Where would I go if it were me? Check if I can actually establish comms to cvm then maybe Check the cvm has power and ground then report back to me. Hi, I dont have a diagnostic tester, but was looking at getting one (which one though?). I'm a bit old school and only have a good multi meter, and can do some of the basics (power, continuity, resistance). The car has been dry stored for about the last couple of years, so i don't think its water/corrosion, and has been on trickle charge. The roof cvm was replaced about 4-5 years ago and was working when we garaged the car. How can i check if the cvm is getting power and ground (sorry, I'm more mech that tech!)?@@allmech_BMW_fault_finding
Fluid leak?, pump worn? Low fluid level? Fault codes? Those are the things you need to ask yourself and then check. Unfortunately due to brainless idiots who made this car to check the oil level you need to remove the roof lol. If there are no Hall sensor fault codes you have a pump issue so you should troubleshoot there.
Cheers bud, just gonna buy one just for fun if I get it cheap. the roof doesn’t work so it’s a job I’ll need to consider

How do you add hydraulic fluid to the motor? I think my motor is good. It goes down easy, but struggles to come up

on my 2005 car i can hear the pump but the roof is not going down? only detaches itself a little bit from the windscreen like yours did....

😢I got the same issue. I replaced the motor myself, now the motor works but roof won't go down. 😢
