Brian Glover brilliant and perfect ....PE. teachers from a certain era...laying down in footbath, standing outside in your swimming trunks on a winter's day.....great memories.
Our games teacher was just like Brian Glover. We had three minutes to change, God help you if you didn't have your kit. It was sodding freezing in the winter, and muddy. The showers were luke warm and the footballs were them great big heavy casers which filled up with water in the wet and the laces nearly had your bloody eye out.
So true this, all the best players were picked first and the most useless were standing there at the end and became the goalkeeper....me? i was always the goalkeeper
Anyone enjoying this should watch him as a wrestler in the 1970's under the name 'Leon Arris'. His bout with 'Les Kellet' is a masterclass in entertainment and skill.
Brian Glover.Brilliant comic actor.Remember a series where he and a couple of mates, went on trips to various places. One,a pet show, one a trip to Shakespeares birthplace, and what i thought was the best,a boat fishing trip to the North East. Brilliant, they were.
They went to Whitby , I think that one was called “ The Fishing party “ . Another great one was when they went on a canal boat , Brian Glover sitting on the bog cooking breakfast at the same time 😂
This is Ken Loach at what he does better than almost anyone: fictional narrative film that feels real because it IS. Kes is where it begins for me. The man is a filmmaking genius and you won’t find any famous, successful or annointed directors who’ll disagree.
I had teacher exactly the same as this (Mr Smithson). He used to throw cricket balls at us in the changing room if we forgot our PE kit. He'd then apologised and say "sorry, accidents happen, just like forgetting your PE kit... accidents happen!".
Our old PE teacher used to make us do the lesson with _nothing_ on if we forgot our kit. To be fair though, he used to apply the same rule to himself… actually, thinking back, he used to forget his kit most weeks. 🤔
RIP Sir Bobby Charlton.
Brought a tear to my eye as well as a smile rewatching this classic
still one of the funniest scenes in film history, brian glover giving a great performance.
This film has a place in my heart like no other

Priceless …..not sure we will ever see this class of acting again….I’m so glad I’m old enough now to have been young enough back then…..

Me too, hated it. The school scenes in this film really reflect how it was at that time.
Goal keeper here too lol
Nobody wanted me. I went running. Tried to get back to the showers before the heroes returned! It were grim!
I can't understand why we kept losing with so many of us in the goal!

Both he and Colin Welland were both teachers before they went into acting too.............

Very realistic, the good old days.
