Seven years ago, a man named Michael Superbacker joined by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Superbacker, in a back alley of a local Internet cafe. He had seen a commercial for a kickstarter project named “The Air Umbrella”, which allowed the user to protect themselves from the cold harsh rain. That day, thunderclouds started to form. Without wanting, the cold rain tore through his parents without mercy, leaving them nothing but shreds. Seeing his parents disintegrate in front of his eyes brought him to his knees, as he screamed to sky “WHY, WHY DIDN’T I HAVE THE AIR UMBRELLA.” Ever since that faithful day, Michael spent his days in his parents’ basement living as UmbrellaMan, a masked vigilante that’s only mission is to find the air umbrella.
I cannot believe we're entering the final act of this internet saga. Genuinely a treasure to be able to watch it unfold in real time
These are the kind of things kids will be studying as an example of how to RUclips changed the world.

I think to increase efficiency, reduce the nozzle to a thin wafer to increase exit velocity of air and then similar to Dyson products first create a laminar filter to straighten airflow.
Adding angular velocity (spinning) to the “disk”of highly pressurized air might help too. I completely agree about making sure the airflow is laminar. I’ve seen vids on airflow from a spinning prop. A mini jet engine would work best, I think. 🤣
mmmm wafer
I was thinking the same thing like the hand driers.
Insert very smart sentence
I would like to add something, but I'm dumb so no.
Michael finally got his happy ending. It took 7 years, but he got it
It wasn't about the umbrella. He just wanted his money back- like ANY normal human would.
No he still deserves his money
he's got dedication
tf is ningguang doin here.
It took Michael 7 years. Hbu? How long will it take to rebuild the jade chamber?
This needs to be a backpack. You could get a bigger fan and deal with the non-waterproofing. Could also help with having to hold the thing so close to you're head
I would have used a turbofan with a 1000w motor and a 1/5 gear ratio and blown it out the top mixed with the rain falling into the turbofan with makes a dense mist. This would provide way more power and the more rain you have, the more effective it becomes.

I have just found your RUclips channel and you are a true genius. This is such great entertainment, great job!
Thank you for blessing us.
The hole at which the air is passing through is too big, a smaller hole would cause that amount of air pressure to blow a lot harder, you need to reduce the size of the pipe and you’d probably get triple digit PSI air pressure explosion.
Also since that thing needs the battery of a leaf blower I’d imagine the weight is pretty high… make a harness for the air umbrella and due to natural body poster make the part on your back have an “angle adjustable” setting to go anywhere between 0-90 degrees. This accommodates people who can’t stand up strait here in Japan many elderly walk around at a 90 degree angle due to hard labor…
So with all that said weight wise, the most effective and efficient use you’ll be a harness so they can use it at the push of a button and be hands free.
Also much like SCBAs you should also put a waist seat-belt/strap/belt so all the weight of the umbrella is resting on your hips as opposed to the shoulder; but, I would add a second strap for the chest so weight is being distributed evenly.
To conclude:
-Make it hands free
-Have an adjustable angular mount to accommodate with body posture
-Minimize the pipe size to increase PSI to allow a more concentrated blast of air since a leaf blower is the base and that alone without a smaller pipe works effectively in drizzle rain but not heavy rain.
-lastly, on top of having harness straps for over the shoulder for stability and effortless carrying, add a strap at the cues and waist so that weight is distributed and there’s no wear and tear of your shoulder and waist.
I like how Allen just randomly has youtubers from all different walks of content just hanging out in his videos

Underrated comment, take my like
Hey in defence of the air umbrella, from someone who lives in Mumbai where it rains cats and dogs for almost 3 months straight, from my experience a normal umbrella is also pretty useless incase of a heavy rain, cus your head may stay dry but your body around your chest stats to get wet because of the wind and all. So I would say this air umbrella is pretty much as good as a normal one, except it might make your deaf but that's minor details
its multiversal madness with how many other people are in this
i hope you send him the nozzle part too so when he realizes how impractical it is he can at least own a brand new leaf blower
Yo he responded, he better get that umbrella or we riot at dawn
Holy shit you famous
Allen, did you test out using thinner air outlets? This would have offered lots of resistance and pressurized the air to force it out at a higher speed and thus a higher force vector. It was moving a large volume of air, just not very fast.
Yeah thats what I was thinking too. Those vents are huge.
Yeah and like a reducer on the large tube too
I think angling them up maybe 3-5 degrees would make it work better. and adding straws to the inside, to increase the uniformity of the flow, and adding maybe using a different fan, or having the air outlets go out at a specific frequency, like an instrument, both of those might help to mitigate the amount of noise it's making.

you could really increase air speed by decreasing the size of the outlets. the faster the air is moving the more water it will divert. with a few more prototypes it may be able to work in a light rain with much less power.
Smart boi
I mean, yeah, but the smaller the holes the less area it covers - although the area it does cover is covered far better.
I'm thinking some good brushless motors too. Some guy 3D prints crazy little turbines what would probably work great for this.
Smaller holes = larger gaps between holes. Overall the same amount of air being moved.
the smaller the holes, the closer the holes need to be together, therefore more holes, therefor same area and air speed.

THIS SO CALLED "UMBRELLA" IS TAKING MY JOB.
Michael Superbacker has waited 7 whole years to receive a crappy leaf blower made by a failed Mythbuster.
It's big, loud, and not incredibly effective, but this seems like the best way to make an air umbrella with the current technology. And it doesn't take seven years!
but atleast it will satisfy Michael Superbacker at some level
Well i could think of several ways it could be improved, in terms of air power, the size of the blower that would be required would necessitate a handcart carrying device to bring the umbrella with you. Also choking the air tube down a few sizes on this blower and using the original sized tube with this motor would very likely have a greater effect. That or making the blower an ionized gas blower, or bladeless fan.
imagine a new spy movie and your going outside to rob a building and its raining so your using (THE FUTURE UMBRELLA) and you wake up everyone along the way LMAO anyways cool build

Just a heads up, moving the rain away is changing the momentum (p=mv), it might work better with smaller holes to push the air faster (basically the air has to go somewhere, smaller outlet means it travels faster). So either you could make it smaller or make it stronger by optimising that. Just noticed since the original design had massive holes
Good point.
@@MrAnarchyMarine Yeah
Holes in the design, in more than one sense
A leaf blower's limiting factor is the amount of pressure it's fans can produce. So, given a fixed amount of pressure, smaller nozzles would result in lower air velocity.

The man's community updates. Literally a day tracker.. this dude is awesome, seriously a god

If you pinch a water hose, you get a film like ejection at the end, that can sufficiently prevent fall droplets from crossing. That should mean that if you can match the momentum of a fall drop of rain by moving the air in a thin film instead of tiny holes, that might work a bit better, save some energy, I say this because air leaving tiny holes will have a lot more of a spin and just general turbulence than once leaving a continuous slit. I simulated an Air roof for a client once. I had to stagger it in two steps (turn the water once, smack it hard to the side next) and films worked better than nozzles. Also it needed several industrial blowers to work in theory
Sounds rad, though you'd likely have to market it as something else like 'Aquashield' or something.
Unfortunately, air is a gas rather than a liquid, so having it move in a thin film is impossible as it disperses too much, the only thing even remotely close would be to increase the power of the leafblower, but that would be really difficult while keeping it light enough and small enough to carry around.
pretty much like the Dyson bladeless fan ;)
@@mw2zorzest Would keeping the air under pressure (obviously, not using a leaf blower.) Help to negate this effect? At least for a short term? Thinking maybe... a rechargeable 4500psi carbon fiber tank (the body of the umbrella) with some sort of regulator? Also the flow would not have to be constant. I was thinking more like burst fire... have it rapidly release and close a valve.
@@EC-dz4bq I mean I'm no physicist, I do understand basic physics and gas/fluid dynamics, but I honestly couldn't tell you what a certain pressure would do in a rainy environment, though I imagine this would end up being too heavy to carry if made out of metal and if you tried to make it out of plastic the durability would suffer too much and make it unviable for mass production, any repetitive action ends up damaging components, so durability would always be a problem. I just think the idea is kind of silly to begin with and due to the inconsistency of wind and rain would just fail in too many occasions (the idea of an 'air umbrella'). I feel like a regular umbrella does a decent enough job that while this is a neat sci-fi esque idea, hardly practical or necessary.
P.S. I figure the noise it would make would also be a significant deterrant for anyone thinking of buying one.
