Good morning my friend, well I didn’t know you love tallow as much as I do and I am so happy more people are getting to know the amazing benefits it bring to our skin. I have an entire beef and bison tallow line, unscented and eo. Some recommendations because I know you don’t mind. Melt your beeswax first, or at least start it for a bit and then add the rest of solid oils/ butters. I always melt the mango and Shea with the heat of the others ingredients also and lastly be aware that tallow will speed your butter when soaping, but your soap will be like nothing you experience before, creamy, long lasting and with my recipe at least I noticed the soap doesn’t lost much of the weight. ❤️

I also (usually) add my shea and mange in after the oils are melted, I don't know why I didn't this time. I know they are more heat sensitive... and I could have used your warning yesterday when I made my first tallow soap! 😂it got thick much quicker than I thought it would. It was fine, I didn't have problems with it but I wasn't sure if it was the eo blend (the one you gave me a few months ago BTW) or the tallow. It smells amazing and I can't wait to cut it tonight. I also mentioned you in that video and gave you credit for the eo blend.💕💕💕

Does this stay a nice softish thickness or does it get stiffer? I am having trouble with the tallow things I make stiffening up too much. Thanks so much for this video! I will try this!
I use the water method. Years ago I didn't add salt, but now (just started again last month) I am adding salt. this seems to be helping a lot to get a cleaner end product. it does take quite a bit of time so I'm not sure it will be worth it for the amount I would need for soaps, but def worth it for other products. or I may just have a limited soap line...still working through that. 🤗💕
@WalnutCreekBathBoutique Ive done both. Water and salt really pulls out the impurities and helps it not smell as much! But seems you definitely get MORE tallow out of the dry method. If that makes sense.
I just got a bunch of tallow from a local non profit that has a butchery program and this will be a perfect use! I just received an email from Bulk Apothecary advertising their tallow so you could source it there if you can't find something local.
yes, olive oil should work fine for you. if you want to add calendula oil you would probably just infuse calendula petals in your olive oil before using. it is simple to do, just add your petals to a jar with a lid, fill it up with olive oil and then either set it aside for a few weeks or put it in a pan of water and simmer gently for a couple of hours. refrigerate any leftover oil as it will go rancid pretty quickly if left out. 🤗

While I was watching I was wondering when you were going to add the arrowroot powder 😊 So is that something that would normally be added at the same time as the essential oils?
you know, I just made this again and added the arrowroot powder with EOs, it was a failed batch for me. Granted I ran out of cetearyl alcohol, and swapped it out so that is probably the reason...but when I remake it tomorrow (with cetearyl LOL) I am adding the powder in the following day with my EO blend 😆
I get my tallow on Amazon. $33 for 64 oz. My Tallow Balm is the Base for my extra strength diaper cream. My friend who passed from Cancer used my diaper cream and we found that it really kept the skin integrity compared to regular diaper creams.
I'm sorry to hear about your friend 😢 - thanks for the suggestion on Amazon, I have seen some there that I thought I might try We used tallow on my granddaughter's diaper area all the time with wonderful success. that is one of the reasons I was so sold on it.
@@WalnutCreekBathBoutique If I can suggest that you would be so much better off finding a direct farmer at a farmers market & perhaps even ask him if they want to barter with you for their suet (beef fat) & render it yourself. Honestly it's super easy & man do you get a ton of tallow, in turn your tallow products won't cost you much to produce ( which also makes it a little more affordable for folks doing it tough). My farmer & his wife swapped 3 soaps for 5kg fresh beef fat! I froze it.
oh, good to know! I thought about getting it there if I start making a lot of soap with it. I processed down my own tallow a few weeks ago and man o man, that was some work/time. I still have a freezer full of beef fat to render though so am going to get busy and just get it done (I hope)😆
I order my tallow from Essential Depot. It's organic grass fed. It has a lite scent but disappears in soap making. I'm fixing to make tallow balm/whipped and have no qualms there will be any scent in finished product. But Essential Depot shipping is quick and price is great also.

not this time, I don't smell it at all. I have had some tallow that I could smell. When I first started using it and rendering it down I could really smell it. I have learned better ways to rendering now that there is almost no smell at all. I do have a video in the works on my rendering...🤗😍
Hey Tammy, I also make a great tallow face cream however, I’ve never heard of leaf ‘tallow’ only leaf ‘lard’. I know you said you can’t get it from the supplier you used, I’m gonna go investigate. Like I said, I’ve never heard of leaf tallow coming from a cow. I’m intrigued now.
Hey Lissa!! so I think I misspoke, OR - people call it both ways. I think leaf tallow/lard is the belly fat of pig, and suet is the belly fat of the cow. But I think I have also heard people calling suet/leaf for cow too. I'm not exactly sure which is correct LOL
I actually found that I get a better whip and more air using a paddle. It seems wrong but there we are LOL I did have a baker tell me the same thing on a video once so I'm not totally off base 😂
Go to a slauter house and request leaf tallow just before season so they know to reserve it! Just render it slowly through cheese cloth!! Usually 3x or more- Start early in the morning!

I love the look of your Whipped balm but Pumpkin seed oil and Abyssinian oil in Australia are both crazy expensive. I like to grate my beeswax when it comes in a block from my local bees. Patrick over at Soapy Oaks Farm has many different Tallow products and he said his Tallow soap is his biggest seller so it appears that Tallow is super popular in USA.

I don't think the arrow root powder would cause it. I is usually due to either the tallow or whatever butter you used. You can melt it all down again, really really well (but gently of course) and then try to cool it fast. As soon as it stops steaming put it in the fridge and mix it every 5-15 min (depending on the size of your batch) That should take care of the graininess for you! Good Luck!!! 🤗

He has come around 😀 for some reason he never questioned the cream though - he uses it all the time. Seriously any little skin irritation we have, we immediately grab the tallow cream.

I used to process my tallow (water method) but found I could not get the smell out and had much worse consistency issues. I have recently improved my process and now am processing it again. The first time with just a tiny bit of odor, so this second time I am doing things a bit differently and hopefully no smell. I have a video in the works so people can critique me LOL (gotta learn somehow 😆)
oh goodness, I can't believe I forgot that part LOL - no beefy smell or fatty smell at all. I do think it may have a bit if no EOs were used but it is not overpowering. It is mostly sweet smelling, which I find off-putting, but the EO blend takes care of that just fine.
You're welcome! I would say any oil would work, Meadowfoam Seed oil is nice, you can increase jojoba but that is $$. Even safflower would be nice I think. Avocado is a little heavy but it would lean into the green that the pumpkin seed oil give it. 💕

Mine came out grainy is this due to the amount of arrow root powder ?

Pumpkin seed oil is beyond ridiculously expensive here in Australia

You can make your own rosehip oil and use that for the recipe.
Find a local butcher shop for tallow. It takes some processing dedication but it is not hard to do and keeps cost down

Try shredding your bees wax. It may melt easier.
