    Note: Early in the video, we examine what effect Sims has on the Repair Party. Other commenters pointed out that this is probably not a bug, visual or otherwise. The reason is because it appears the Repair Party restores HP based on a certain percentage of the ship’s total HP; therefore, if you increase the ship’s total HP, it logically follows that the amount of HP restored by the repair party would likewise increase. This is something I did not know before noticing the number change in this case, which just goes to show you that as much as you may THINK you know about WoWsL, there is still new stuff to learn.

      Wow I would have 100% said repair party is a static amount not tied to total hp. I don’t know that it makes a huge difference in most ships but it’s worth considering. Thanks for pointing that out.

      @@bryanmurphy3957 I don’t know if it really makes a huge difference. It’ll still restore the same percentage of HP even if you buff the HP. Technically you’re getting more, but in terms of efficacy, you’re not really doing anything by buffing total ship HP other than buffing total ship HP, if that makes sense.

    0:33 Repair party is buff whit sims because the repair party is a % of total HP, so if you increase the total HP of the ship (whit sims or other commander) the repair party is better

    • @Xarkun
      @Xarkun  Месяц назад +2

      Sims trait is not percentage based. That’s Hide. For Sims, he increases ship HP by something like 380 HP per tier(if you have him at rank 16 like I do). So for Lushun being T8, that would be an HP buff of 380 x 8. It’s not percentage based. So therefore it should have no affect whatsoever on the repair party unless my understanding is completely incorrect.

      Ok, yeah. That I guess makes sense and I realize that’s what the first commenter was saying now. So the Sims flat HP buff would logically increase the HP restored by the repair party if the consumable is percentage based. But it’s not obvious by looking at the stats that it is percentage based. It would make more sense to say the repair party restores xx% of HP over 20s if the consumable is percentage based, rather than giving the numbers.

      @@Xarkunonly been playing 4 months and can see how complex this game is. Going to take some time to learn how everything affects the other. Commander builds is my biggest challenge right now with regard to how they affect each ship. Would love to see inspirations attached to a specific commander and left in place for a specific ship, instead of having to change the inspirations to work up a different ship using the same commander. Gets too complicated trying to remember each build. Notes help, but so complex sometimes. I guess I need more of the different AL commanders and such to make it easier.

I'd be trying things like using AL Nelson with Hyde or Sims as inspirations just to see what nonsense I could do with the heals haha. Either way, it should absolutely NOT be that big of a difference. Ive toyed with it a lot of and ive never seen gains like that so something seems fishy with the way the ship's math is mathing out Lol (I even tried a full heal build on Daring just for the LuLz)

      Certainly the best campaign ship of 2024. I haven't tried the other guy because I think I want to take all the gun buffing skills on this thing, but I think the ship is versatile and can probably work very well with a number of builds.

      @Xarkun I would run sa if he had D or D, I feel observant rage might hurt more than help, .2 seconds or so of reload just to add to the rudder shift on a whale. But it is a whay to run her and not at all a bad way. I agree with gun fire control in the 4th slot, the extra range is very nice for mid to late game while harassing BB mains. I'm I've been trying a normal bey/sims, but bey/violette is kind of spicy.

      @@otf7466 I’d still take Sims as one inspiration. I can’t see a better choice than that. But for the second, I really do think practically anything could work. This ship is so versatile. As for the rudder debuff from observant range, sure. That is a downside. However, there is nothing that can be done about the 700m turning circle, so the thing is still going to turn like a clumsy brick even if the rudder shift time is a little lower. Therefore, I think Observant Range for the DPM buff and extra torpedo spotting is useful here. And frankly on most gunboats.

    • @Xarkun
      @Xarkun  Месяц назад

      No, it’s a flat amount times ship tier. I think in my case with rank 16 Sims, it’s 380 HP per tier. So I wouldn’t think it should have any effect on the repair party consumable at all. Unless the repair party consumables HP numbers are percentage based. Then I could see how it would increase the amount the repair party is restoring, but I don’t know. It seems weird to me. I don’t think the repair parties work like that. If they were percentage based, then why would the stats show a flat number for HP restored instead of saying like 20% HP restored over 20 seconds?

      @Xarkun  Месяц назад +2

      Elbing doesn't have the utility this thing does with its smoke/sonar combo. I'm not sure the two are really comparable, because with Elbing you're really not going to be just straight up dominating caps. You might dominate cruisers with the AP, but not necessarily caps. Elbing basically has all the tools to be one of the most fun ships in the game, but not necessarily the most carry-capable DD. This thing has everything you need to dominate the cap contest game.

      That’s right. I actually logged onto PC and looked at it. It has basically the same sonar and guns, though. And it’s at T10. As far as I can tell, the biggest changes are our Lushun has 100 less damage on the HE max damage, 0.1km less ship detect range on sonar, and smoke. I think MAYBE there’s a little too much going on between the smoke, the big heal, and the sonar. No one could accuse it of being underpowered, anyway.

    10.7km too little range for tier 8? You and I play different games then. If I want to gunboat at 13km, I play cruisers. When I DD, I only open up my guns if spotted, which means always under 6km unless I make a mistake like you and get radared - which happens sub 10.7km, never at 13km, so there’s never a need to ever spec into range. Lüshun is an AP gunboat and that AP loses pen over range, further supporting the notion to not spec into range, as you want to be close to take advantage of its low pen.

    • @Xarkun
      @Xarkun  Месяц назад +1

      I mean you’re free to build it however you want, but yes, 10.7km is, in my mind, too little for a gunboat DD at this tier. Obviously increasing the range increases the distance at which you’ll be spotted when you fire. That’s entirely irrelevant to me and the way I play DDs, and my 71% WR in this particular ship over 14 games so far (I assume it will go down a bit with more games) does suggest that being spotted at 13km when I fire my guns is not a problem. And there are absolutely times when it is perfectly safe and reasonable to engage in open water gunboating with this ship and others.

    • @ggtorou
      @ggtorou Месяц назад +1

      Gunboat isn’t only about close range, look on pc how are played French and Russian DDs. Also Lushun have one of the best pen values because of Russian velocity and 130mm guns

    • @Xarkun
      @Xarkun  Месяц назад +1

      To be fair, the pen value on Lushun (or the Russian DDs generally) isn't spectacular when it comes to the AP. It's not like the French or the alt German DD line. Both of those have insane pen on the AP. Really the value I see in building into range is you can probably do open water gun boating easier when it is necessary (and it is absolutely necessary sometimes). You're not going to be doing that too much when you've got the smokes this thing has. But I mean say you're in a smoke, a BB is pushing toward a cap 8km away. You start shooting, it turns, and your range is 10.7km. You're missing out on a ton of damage when it goes past that range. I find it better to have extra, and that's a hill I'm going to die on when it comes to how I build DDs. Whether people want to copy it or not is up to them, and you can make builds that are completely different than mine and still have great success. I think the only downside I'm willing to recognize as in any way valid for buffing DD gun range is the opportunity cost. What potential commander buffs are you giving up in order to take extra range? Specifically in this case, I am giving up Twist and Track and more DPM since I'm taking range instead of reload mod. Those are both pretty big things to give up in order to get a couple km extra range, but it is not a problem for me, and I don't accept the idea that there are any "right" ways to build a ship, except when it comes to the Unstoppable skill. If there is actually an objectively wrong way to build any DD in this game, it is choosing not to take Unstoppable. Everything else is a matter of optimizing what you need to optimize to suit your playstyle.
