I still remember the feeling I had watching this as a kid, when I thought he had killed Hunt I was in total disbelief, this was a groundbreaking concept to me, the main character dying was something my brain was not ready for.. Truly unforgettable scene.
Same! Unforgettable scene and experience in movie theater
Hard to believe even more this movie is 22 years old lol
@@chickychrissy9405 Please don't tell me that. 😵💫
Yeah I felt disturbed when I saw this at a younger age
Read my mind bro
At 1:49 that music transition was brilliant, when I was little that music change immediately changed my emotions, from being terrified to thinking how cool Tom Cruise is
Yeah
@@annarose8834oh dear 😮🎉😢❤❤😂❤❤😅
Honestly to this day, one of the best music transition’s in a film ever, every time I watch this scene it gives me chills
That’s all Hans Zimmer my guy!!
this is clearly one of the best scenes in the entire MI franchise if not the best
1:49 This is absolutely my favorite part of this movie. The unmasking and the music transition shifted the entire movie into overdrive, and the gas pedal was pushed to the floor all the way to the end. A thrilling ride from start to finish, complete with John Woo’s signature style.
I really didn't think this movie was that great, especially in comparison to the rest in the franchise. However, this particular scene was spectacular and definitely turned things up for the remainder of the film
Yes agreed. This is the only movie in the series with complete flow of story.
J'y pas un peu plus de 3ème minute mais
@@dharmeshkumarpatel3791 djdqptv
Amen!!!!
MI:2 is underrated. For anyone who loves over the top 90s action cinema, this one is a blast.
Eh. It's not bad but it's very generic. It feels like an Albert Pyun movie with a budget; like someone trying to copy John Woo instead of Woo himself.
@@JDoe-gf5oz It definitely lacked the rawness of a true Hong Kong John Woo film, but it fit in well alongside other 90s flicks like Face/Off and Con Air.
I agree. I've always liked this film, even though I made the allowance to the fact that it wasn't great. Generic? Overblown? Almost self-parodic in the context of Woo's work? Check, check, and check. Still I love the almost operatic quality about it, with Zimmer pumping up crucial dialogue, Ethan being more free-spirited than in any other installment, occasional corny joke, and let's be honest - mask reveals are the best in the entire series. This scene is the best example. I've always liked how dead serious this movie takes itself, in spite of all of its absurdities.
This scene is good but overall the movie was pretty cheesy and not as good
Problem is it's very very cheesy. Hunt is too cocky. His team barely do anything. Especially the final fight slow mo effects, replays and bad over the top acting and laughing. Let's not even start on the Bike scene. It's almost a parody of an Action film. The cheesy slow mo replays work better for HK movies because it's their style/culture and "Feel". But in a Hollywood movie it looks very amateurish. The Matrix managed to combine both perfectly.
The look on Ambrose when he see he shot his own dude and the scream really make it awesome.
HUUUUUNNNNTTTTT!!!!!!
Absolutely regretted Lol 😂
Of course
I always wonder if it’s a scream or if he’s saying Hunt
What about the transition of the music as Ethan removes the mask while running? Epic as hell!
0:59 Love how Ethan is just standing there disguised as Stamp, smiling deviously
I love the subtlety of him gulping. You can tell he’s in a “this is all too close” scenario.
And his sadistic line here too:
"I believe I break his jaw"
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He had to have a Scottish accent
@@PortugalZeroworldcupthat's South African accent
@@francocagayat7272that wrong english
While not even close to being the best film in the franchise, for me this is still the best mask revel of the franchise. The slow motion and music switch just make it a great scene.
which one is your fav MI movie then ?
@@howardh6857 Hard to say but the first one and the most recent 2 are my personal favourites. That's not to say I don't like the whole franchise overall but just felt the 2nd, 3rd and 4th films are the weakest.
Also like to add that the scene in the first film when Ethan goes into the CIA vault to steal the data and has to stay quiet or set off the alarm, was the quietest I ever heard a movie theater 😀
@@Agelmar101 I absolutely agree - MI1 is severely underrated, and MI6 is truly amazing. Even tho 4 is pretty neat also
@@skycase1976It’s impossible to pick a favorite!
@@ComedyBros5 True
Such a great scene! The music, the realization from Sean just realizing that he blasted his right hand man, the music, the Tom cruise run, everything!
I will admit. This is my favourite scene in this movie. Ethan tricking Sean into killing his right-hand man was awesome.
I remember the entire theater reacting to this scene! One of my favorite cinema experiences!
Not in this scene but the way Dougray says… “HUNT THAT BASTARD DOWN!!!”… is epic beyond proportions.
Ambrose was the coolest villain imo,😎
The dove flying with Ethan in between the fire and that vision on Ambrose eyeballs
The villains in this film were actually very likeable.
After watching Mi7 part 1, Gabriel’s frustrated scream is a sweet callback to Ambrose’s scream in this scene
Yes I'm glad too they gave us sweet easter eggs or callbacks to the OG movies such as Kittridge's return, climax on TGV/Orient Express, and that frustrated scream from the bad guys 🤣
It's not "Gabriel."
I thought it was a call back to “La Bamba”
@@Rod0411You missed one. The side closeup of Ethan in one of the shots is very similar to the iconic poster of the OG.
I loved this scene in the theater! Sadly I can’t find it on RUclips
Watched this when I was a kid. This scene still lives rent-free in my head.
Mission Impossible hasn’t failed ONCE. What an incredible franchise totally underrated.
I wish I could agree. Sure, there are a lot of great scenes, action, music, etc. But they all have the same plot. I've seen them all on the big screen, and yes I'm going to watch the next one.
I'm more of a fan of the original tv series of the 60's and 70's, but that's because it's what I grew up with.
Hasn't failed in terms of box office?? Yes. Then you're right . . . But they still have to give 18 more hits to equal the bond franchise
Meh, MI2 was awful and the rest are still largely just style over substance gumpf. The latest one is all about pretending that the motorbike stunt is somehow original, yet many other stuntmen have done the same thing decades ago and got no credit at all. Just because Tom Cruise does it for a vast paycheck, suddenly he's a genius being talked about endlessly 🙄
@@DM-kv9kjThe first one was a solid flick, and I have to say ghost protocol, rogue nation, and fallout were all great action movies when it came to entertainment. Plots weren’t mind blowing, but they worked and what else do you expect from an action franchise? Bond films follow same formula
@@randomhuman97if they give cruise nearly age 90 or above if he live then may be

Ethan Hunt: *pretends to be scared* “wait a minute.” *rips off ghost’s mask*
Random famous disgruntled person pretending to be a ghost: “FUCK! I would’ve gone away if it weren’t for you… random secret agent!”
I gotta admit Ethan having a mask of himself was the last thing i expected, and then putting it on stamp. I guess he really knew how much sean hated him.
Iconic scene. Perfect choice with Hans Zimmer...

Limp Biscuit for the theme song, not so much.
Don't forget Klaus Badelt and Heitor Pereria who also composed music for the film
His scream at 1:37 puts a smile on my face...
His scream is my favorite moment of the movie. I only watch the movie for this 3 seconds.

how the music changes after he slowly realise.... epic

It never gets old. Lol
This has the best ones period.
Is it possible to make such mask 🎭
Not gonna lie one of the best action sequence in mission impossible franchise
The most rewatchable and goosebump filled scene in MI franchise for me
Moi de même
I don't care what anyone says. I LOVE this movie. I think it's just as good as the first one, in its own way.
23 years later and this scene still remains BADASS👏👏🔥🔥
1:39 that scream it's priceless... He killed his best friend & 2nd in Command. Can't belive fans hated this one so much... It says John Woo on each frame. Con

Then they showed the bandaged finger………
Yup

1:15 to 2:10 beautiful scene....the old school action scenes are hands down the best....another best one is Face/Off that too by the same director John Woo...

It really says something when the (arguably) worst film of the franchise is still a thoroughly enjoyable viewing experience with some really great scenes.
This one wasn't the worst.
3 imo was the worse

MI 2 was in a league of its own. You have to love this scene. This is peak IMF Hunt
This established Ethan as a legend
considering the opinion of the fans who claims this john woo's masterpiece the weakest movie of the franchise, show the standard of this Movies, each one gets better thwn the previous ones, but with dead reckoning it's not better than fallout
@@k-force8325that’s exactly my thoughts as well, I enjoyed fallout way more
I don't have to love it. I in fact hate this slow motion John Woo garbage.
@Bryce3189 Lets consider Mi2 was just a dream of ethan hunt😂😂
The music in this scene really speaks about the villain and hero.
0:57 Villains triumph victory theme over the hero.
1:51 Hero's theme plays revealing that he's the true victor.
Ethan not only fooled the villains, but he also fooled the audience. I remember watching this and everyone was just gasping. We were all thinking okay maybe he wore a bulletproof vest. But the unmasking got us all cheering. Great scene.
Villain music is more good there
The music is badass starting at 1:20! Hans Zimmer is a legend!
I remember the whole theater going insane during this scene!!!!
Funny how they refered the Dougray Scott's "Huuuuuuuuuuunt!!!" moment in MI Dead Reckoning with Esai Morales' "Ethaaaaaaaan!!!" moment 😆

Nah. Those guys killed an entire plane full of innocent passengers. He had it coming.
@@DiamondDead yeah, but as a viewer back in 1996 as a teenager, that was horror.
And Ethan's smiling at him under his bad guy mask. Sure, the guy sucked, but its kinda unheroic to be smirking at him when he's about to die.

True. 😂
You could make a gif out that 😂
Gotta love how after telling the helicopter to leave.. still has time to put his shades back on 😂😂

1:49 best scene in the film
After 30 years of watching the mission impossible movies if I have learned one lesson it is this. Whenever one of your henchmen comes back from the bathroom or to get a sandwich or to take a smoke break, check him for a mask!
Best movie (by far) of this franchise. Tom Cruise at his peak, as also John Woo. Masterpiece.
Tout à fait d'accord
Le meilleur de la franchise aussi selon moi
M.I 2 restera toujours mon coup de coeur
Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation, Fallout and Dead Reckoning are much better imo.. but this is the best unmasking
Are we all going to sit here and not mention the oddity in the fact that John Woo directed this?
This movie led to me to seek out, and find, and enjoy, other, better, John Woo films. And this one isn't really as bad as people seem to think it is, in my opinion.
@@TheEvilChipmunk For my part it was first Hard Target that introduced me to John Woo. I actually appreciate all his early Hollywood efforts (Broken Arrow, Face Off) they are a combination of stylish and goofy as only John Woo can manage with when doing US movies. Thanks to him MI2 has a special quality and style, it's the one that sticks out of the most in the franchise. It's also peculiarly dark as far as tone goes.
@@notundermywatch3163 in my part it was hard boiled. 1of the best he did before he moved to hollywood
The dove/pigeon, John Woo’s trademark
Everything about this movie screams John Woo. The excessive slow-motion, the clumsy exposition, the fact that it doesn't actually feel anything like Mission Impossible beyond the mask thing, which plainly Woo _really_ had a thing for.
Such a clever twist and I always find that guys reaction and scream hilarious 😆
*Stamp: “I’m afraid he’s got no choice.” “I believe I broke his jaw.”*

One of the best scenes in the franchise.
This scene legit blew my mind seeing it in theaters as a 9 year old😂
This is the best mask reveal in the entire franchise, but the trick was so overused that was so predictable.

Personally my favorite mission impossible. John Woo is the man!
I completely lost it when Ethan got away ripping off his disguise.
Damn, “Ethan’s” refusal to smile sure did piss off Sean 😳
This scene is playing in Toms head round the clock .
Don’t care if people think this movie was trash. Loved it. This plot twist blew my 12 yr old mind to pieces. When I left the theater with my mum, I left with a new identity. I was in fact going to do my best to be Ethan Hunt.

That BGM 🔥
Music elevates this scene to the next level.. particularly when Ethan unmasks while running out..
That unmasked scene is just mind-blowing i remember when i was watching it first time i got goosebumps
My fav parts in this scene:
1. Sean being tricked into thinking that "Ethan" was killed but actually one of his henchmen were.
2. The real Ethan runs off with the Bellorophon
3. The epic transition from the dramatic music to rock music
What a reveal!
I wonder why others hate cruise is because tom cruise is Just too Good! 👍🏻 But i love mission Impossible movies! We all do? Who doesnt?! We'll double kick em in the hot desert 😂😂😂😂 ✌🏻
This movie kicks ass, love it
Okay I get people ranking this movie lower than other MI films, but you CANNOT tell me this is not the BEST, most epic unmasking scene of them all.
PS I do think this is the coldest thing Ethan ever did, some might even say it's out of character.
Such a good scene. Tom Cruise is truly the best
People are saying he should've rolled over and showed the bandaged finger, but I think he did something that was more clever than that tbh: he opened his eyes extremely wide and made full, unblinking eye contact to try to show the color of them. If you look over at Hunt, you can see that his eyes are bright blue behind the mask, which should've immediately given him away. Even if they hadn't, it's hard not recognize the eyes of someone you've closely worked with for a long time, especially since those eyes are pretty distinctive. It was a good character commentary all the way around.
