- Ted Greene plays his arrangement of “The Nearness of You” with Shelly Manne on drums and Chuck Domanico on acoustic bass. This recording was made in a studio around 1977 and was intended to be used as source music for a movie that was never completed. This is one song from the album that was shelved and never used.
“The Nearness of You” was written in 1937 by Hoagy Carmichael with lyrics by Ned Washington. It was supposed to be used for the film “Romance in the Rough,” but that movie was never produced. Made famous in 1940 by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra, it recently became popular by Norah Jones’ rendition on her “Come Away with Me” album.
