    The focus lock would be a huge upgrade! I still use the 16-35 F4, and love the fact that I can see where the focus is in the window instantly, so I know my focus plane, and always shoot in manual af. Im afraid that I will miss it in RF lenses. Is the 14-35 really that much better then the 16-35 F4? I think the 16-35mm F4 is great, but thinking about upgrading...

      The 16-35 f4 EF was my favorite lens on the EF system. The 14-35 is much wider and even lighter. You can always rent or some companies have a 30 day return policy.

      Sony A7IV - Cropped 4k 60 🤣
      Also dynamic range is similar and the body has terrible ergos (and lets in dust bunnies like all Sonys), 2005 LCD quality...
      The photo mode is also very slow (5 fps bursts for uncompressed raw... like wtf). The R6 II has slightly better dynamic range and lower noise for photos too.

    I came to this video from your "Dont sell your EF glass!" video. My story is that I moved from a 5D3 to various Sonys, ending with an A7R3. I had mixed results adapting my Canon L lenses (24-70 2.8 II, 70-200 2.8 and 100-400 II) to Sony. Then I sold my Sony and took a covid-based hiatus from photography (hello Samsung Galaxy S22/23 Ultra 😂) until... I took delivery of my R6 mk II last week! The only RF lens I bought was the 85mm f/2 macro. Adapting my EF 24-70 L has been awesome, and I'm looking forward trying my other old EF lenses 😊.
    Thanks for this timely video!

    • @JaredHoyman
      @JaredHoyman  9 месяцев назад

      You are going to love the r6 II for a long time. When I went from canon dslr to mirrorless I had only a few EF lenses and older third party lenses, so going to native RF made more sense for me. For most people that have L series EF I say gradually come over to RF. No rush. I’ve always been tempted to play around with Sony but not replace canon. What didn’t you like about Sony vs canon?

    • @PeteC62
      @PeteC62 9 месяцев назад +1

      I loved the resolution! I was keen to try full-frame mirrorless after a flirtation with Panasonic M43, and Canon just didn't have a mirrorless story outside of the M series at that time. The body was very compact and light, though of course it's the glass that often dominates the weight. I always shoot raw so I wasn't too bothered about Sony color science (then) not quite being on a par with Canon's. The worst aspect was probably the ergonomics, especially the menu system, and AF could be a bit iffy, even on Sony glass.
      Overall I'm very happy to be back in the Canon fold, but I hope they follow through with licensing 3rd party RF lenses as they said they will.

    • @JaredHoyman
      @JaredHoyman  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@PeteC62 they are slow to roll out 3rd parties but I’m pretty sure it’s so they can get their crazy patents out first and tamron and sigma can fill in the gaps.

Looking forward to my first headshots shoot with it tomorrow and then first horse shoots in the weekend.

    I'd like a better way to set custom WB for video, easier way to select high frame rates, and 4K 120 cropped (that's a long shot).
    BTW, since you've shot Canon for this long I wonder if you ever used the POTN forums. They are shutting down for good at the end of December. :(
    I'm quite surprised how little love the R6 Mark II gets from Canon when it comes to cool firmware updates with features. The R5 is so much older and still gets some pretty cool firmware updates.

    • @JaredHoyman
      @JaredHoyman  9 месяцев назад

      When I had the GH5 I really liked how Panasonic implemented custom white balance in video. You selected a white object in the shot and then it would lock the white balance for you. The R5 does get a lot of love, but I feel like it was delayed and then canon decided to make up for it in the last couple yrs. Maybe that love will trickle down to the R6II.
      I didn't know that POTN Forums existed. I just check it out and it looks like a great community. Now I'm really too late to the party on that one.

    Should i be shooting professional images with the Canon EOS 3 in 2024?
    See, although it dates from 1998, it takes a far better range of film than the R5/2.
    The 135mm F2 9 leaf shutter creates, officially, the best bokeh in the known universe. What a camera/ lens combo!
    The EOS 3 comes from the era of real cameras like Haselblaad and the 500cx and what can beat that?
    Has all this gadgetry really improved photography?

    • @JaredHoyman
      @JaredHoyman  9 месяцев назад

      To answer it in a nutshell…..all the gadgets don’t improve photography. They just make it easier for more people to get into it. Cameras are just tools. Composition, technique and editing are all needed to be a good photographer. I shoot 100% in manual mode for the most control out of my images. I’m sure there are people with expensive gear who rely on “Auto”.

      LOG can be tricky at first. What editor are you using? Davinci resolve has a good process with LOG. you may want to just shoot in standard until you get more used to grading LOG. For controlled lighting environment I shoot standard. Tamron g2 is a good lense so it’s pretty badly not that. Be sure to shoot log with “view assist” on. That way you know what the final edit should look like when you color grade.
