I’m excited to see your butternut squash grow. Can they grow up an arch? Emma’s allotment diaries grown pumpkins up and I wondered about the squash. I don’t have the space in my small veggie garden so growing up could be an option. Thanks for sharing enjoying seeing the plot from the beginning 🌱
i did see emmas videos with her arch not sure i might be able too but i would probably have to support the squash to the arch it is an idea i could try thanks
We’ve just got our first allotment, first day tomorrow, kids are very excited. I noticed your water collection is going to be tricky to get a watering can underneath. It’s raining like hell in the UK, I’d empty it and put in on some blocks while you can

It sounds like your council have very stringent rules and regulations! Hope the weather improves for you soon, I'm sick of all this rain too, you just can't get out to do anything can you?!😢
They have had to put alot of rules in place. The last person in charge let people do anything hence why there was a load of rubbish on my new plot. Hope it picks up soon I want to get things in
Pepper seed need very warm, dry conditions to germinate, then take 8 to 12 weeks to grow big enough. Personally would grow pumpkins and potatoes because they will cover the area and reduce the weeds, would only do a small area for root crops were you are postive there is very little glass. Buying plants will help you get ahead at the moment but only 3 brassicas per person per 6 weeks, a cabbage, a cauliflower and a sprouting broccoli.
Thanks the peppers will be started in the house hopefully will do alright outside when they are bigger. I was thinking of pumpkins for the kids to carve I have never actually act pumpkin before. We have a very close garden center that sells the plug plants for veg so might do them for the brassicas thanks
Now the planning begins ,getting the fruit and veg that you wan't and the flowers to grow with them to deter the bugs and pests, . blood and fish bone is a good to improve the soil, and in time when the plants are growing add some tomato feed to some water. It will all work out for you, good luck🌱👍
I bought coffee stirring sticks for labels and a soft lead pencil. Both work to make labels, the sticks can degrade after, the pencil doesn't wash off as fast. If you have raspberries from last year just starting to grow, the tips are fairly easy to propagate cuttings, 4 inches, just below a leaf node (joint) in sand/soil/compost mix. Keep the cuttings in pots, shady area.
The one thing you could get come June or July are covers, cloche or frost protection of some kind. The peppers should be started indoors, they need 20°C 70 °F to germinate.
I use an old bed spiral to sieve my sand from stones, rubbish and roots. I placed the bed coil on a tarp and scooped the soil onto it. You can mix the sieved soil with compost and then place it on the bed. Good luck!👍👍

The squash variety you have will spread a lot but you can contain it. Watch out for the raspberries taking over. They can get out of hand if you turn your back on them.😮 Looking forward to watching your garden grow!
I would just build a trellis to let them grow on off to the side of my garden. Someplace that wouldn't create shade for the rest of your vegetables and someplace where they won't cross over to one of the neighboring allotments. Or you could plant along the fence on the gate side. They would grow on fence. Keep a check in the raspberries growing from underground shoots and travelling over into neighboring allotments as well. Good luck and hope that was helpful. Just remember there are a lot of things that will grow vertically. Take advantage of the space above the ground and grow lots on trellises and if placed strategically you have the space under the trellis for things that may need a touch of shade. Yeah! I saw that idea too. Makes me think the arch will need to be super strong to hold pumpkins 🤔. Very intriguing. Might have to give it a go. 🎃.

That's a good idea might do that next time for labels. Yea my raspberries are just starting to come up now will look in propagating them thanks
