Always check for the DJI MIC 2 in the RODE Reporter app before using it with the native Camera app. Also works with a Bluetooth connection. ruclips.net/video/cJZdaF351fY/видео.html
Thank you so much because I was about to return that expensive DJI Mic 2 for a refund. It’s crazy that we have to use a Rode app to get it to connect to the iPhone. DJI and Apple need to do better.
I just tried and not working for me. I did upgrade to iOS 18 and that may have something to do with it. If you can still make it work, please post a new video
What a wonderful difference!! I just picked this up for my RUclips content! You Sir have my subscription and easily a like for this awesome easy to follow content!🎉
I know, it's time for an upgrade, but this does not work with iPhone 12 mini. Bummed because I really dislike the BlackMagic camera app for the simple stuff I do.
Quick update: it does work, there are just a few things not mentioned in this video. First, the Rode Reporter needs to continue running in the background. Second, when I tested with an actual video recording I wasn't turning the mic off on playback, so the phone was sending the audio to the mic as if it were a speaker. Once I turned the mic off the playback showed the native video camera did pick up the dji mic2 without using the receiver! Super happy about this!
I am considering buying either that mic or the Hollyland Lark 2 mike for my iPhone 15 pro max as I have stopped trying to get my sennheiser EW112 wireless microphones to be recognised by the iPhone.
If you don't check with the Rode app does it still work? Or is there something with the Rode app that tricks the native camera app to work with the BT mic?
I don't know how it works but since I ALWAYS check my mic connection with the RODE Reporter app for years now, it was second nature to do it in 2024. The RODE reporter app confirms connection and switches something in my iPhone 15 Pro Max so I always use it.
@@RichardTaylorTV I think I understand a little better now. The DJI Mic uses the same Bluetooth protocol as the AirPods or a headset with a mic. What this means is that the iOS device is also trying to send sound BACK to the DJI Mic. I found this out when pairing it to my laptop. I have manually go in when I connect the DJI Mic to the laptop and change the speaker OUTPUT to the laptop speakers. My best guess is that this BT mode is the most robust as Apple probably spent the most time on making sure the AirPods work.
The onboard recording on DJI MIC 2 transmitter would disable with bluetooth mode without DJI MIC 2 receiver connected with iPhone. Also the internal camera app on iPhone cannot record the audio from DJI Mic 2 transmitter (without connecting DJI Mic 2 receiver with iPhone) via bluetooth . There is alternative by using BlackMagic Camera app or other 3rd party app instead of the internal camera app on iPhone. The issue is related to bluetooth connectivity with iPhone without connecting DJI Mic 2 receiver.
@@CockpitScenes I wondered if an iOS update or Rode update broke it, so I checked it out today. Still works with iOS 17.4, and Rode 1.1.33, on an iPhone 14 Pro.
Thanks very much! What does the Rode Reporter app do to enable the mic to be recognized by the native camera app? And how on earth did you cocme up with this soluton, as it’s anything but intuitive.

Thanks for the test! Were you plugged in with lightening cable or using it in bluetooth mode?
@@clarityguerra922 Both. In this video I was plugged in via USB-C.

Nice little helpful video. Thank you Richard.

Hi! Two question:
1 Which iPhone model you tested?
2 Using Bluetooth or using the receiver?
I think he’s using the receiver.
Both with my iPhone 15 Pro Max.
did you plugged in the receiver and pairing the mic with Bluetooth at the same time?
It works with my iPhone 12 Pro paired with Bluetooth only (blue light mode) and with the transmitter as well (lightning adaptor)
@@QiunQn No, just one at a time.
its also works with Dji mimo app directly if you use osmo dji mobile
It does NOT work in Bluetooth mode.
It only works with the receiver connected to the iPhone.
It does indeed work with Bluetooth with the iPhone 15 Pro Max!

Omg! Thank you SO MUCH !!!!!!! Works works works !!!!
Thank you Richard vry nice native app cam iPhone and dji mic 2 via bluetooth ftw!!
Brilliant! I've been so frustrated using the black magic app and others needing a subscription. Thank you Sir!
Why not working on my end. 😢
Thanks for the video, Good day.
Best Tipp Ever! Thank You! :-)
Perfect thx
Is this with the receiver or bluetooth?
This is the receiver but it also works via Bluetooth:

The Hollyland Lark 2 doesn't record a backup audio file which I need in my wireless system.
Thank you for this video. I thought it didn’t work on iPhone. Were you connected by bluetooth?
Both hard wired and Bluetooth.
@@RichardTaylorTV thanks!
That’s great news! I’ve got mine coming tomorrow. I’ve had one with my Osmo Pocket 3 for a while, but never thought to test it.

Wow, this did work! Thank you for sharing.
You’re a gangster thank you
LOL!
Thank for your advice!
Hello, I heard that if you connect the DJI Mic 2 via Bluetooth, the noise cancellation won't work, is that true?
Are you connected using Bluetooth or the receiver?

The internal Apple cam app can indeed record via Bluetooth as shown in this video:
