you're definitely right about the bass and drums almost not being on time around 4:30. Like they are in time, but there is definitely a push and pull going there. A lot of metal songs up until the 2000's had that. Then PCs became powerful enough to produce music with, sound engineers started editing and aligning every single hit to be perfectly in time, so the bands that keep this natural groove a few and far between these days.

"Do guitars have tone?" she asked, not knowing the vast scale and nature of the often esoteric debate surrounding so called 'guitar tone'. Some would argue she was ill prepared, but the can of worms had now been opened.
It’s a great question that guitarist have debated. Do guitars have tone , do amps have tone, do speakers have tone, fingers? A guitar alone has no tone it’s just a tool until you combine all the other ingredients player being the biggest contributor.
I LOVE that you continue to spread the good word of Mr Chuck Schuldiner. I was listening to Megadeth and Metallica when Death was still around but didnt "find" them until 5 years or so ago (ironically through a youtube video lol)...they have since become my favorite metal band of all-time. Makes me lament that I easily could have seen him live had I just known they existed then. Thankfully there's Death To All still touring. BTW, you won the wife lottery!
@@TehSawnderz I just like the song better. Also, Trapped In A Corner is definitely easier on the ears for the uninitiated. Catchier riffing and more melodic. Helps grip you while you get used to Chuck's vocals.

I love her explanation of the Scream Bloody Gore album cover so much 😂, I never seen it like that but now it totally makes sense and I love this album art even more!

Scream bloody gore: Mutilation Leprosy: Pull the plug Spiritual healing: Living Monstrosity Human: Lack of comprehension Individual thought patters: The Philosopher Symbolic: Symbolic Sound of Perseverance: Flesh and the power it holds.
@21:28 also the structure is kind of symmetrical. At 47 seconds into the song that section begins. You get the palm muted rhythm followed by that swirly little melody. Then you have the vocals. And to finish the section, you get The inverse of the start: the swirly little melody followed by the palm muted rhythm. So it acts as a bookend on either side of the section, symmetrical. Very cool idea.
She made me want a mix of Death's jazzy era with Opeth now. Quicker jazzy riffs mixed with slow Jazzy sections and maybe even a saxophone occasionally.
I've never heard that interpretation of ITP's cover art, nor did I ever think it had a Rorschach test quality to it. I always thought is was an interpretation of an xray taken from behind someone who fell face first from a great height and the paint splatter represented the blood and brain matter. I'm curious enough to show the artwork to some normie friends and get their comments.
Buyed this album on LP back in 1988, one of the first Death Metal recordings Ive heard. Not the first, but one of the first. The first Death Metal album I got was Possessed -Seven Churches (1986) and Bathory (1984).
@Bugsy204 I dont see the bug difference between Death's musicstyle and Possessed? I can agree Bathory was more of a Black Metal band with some influences from Venom.
At 5:28 Evelyn has a reflection of unrytmical or dissonance between bass and guitar. I just wanted to add that I think this is a result of chuck playing both instruments and pushing himself to play as fast as possible - and that "unperfection" is awesome!
Varvis you should do more deep dives into Death songs like you did for the Sound of Perseverance and Symbolic. I think you should do some deep dives into Human, there's some philosophy in there.
I saw Death and Dark Angel in 1988 at the Trocadero in Philly. Craziest show I've ever been to, the entire place was a mosh pit. People were jumping off the balconies into the crowd. I left with blood all over me, but thankfully none of it was mine! lol

Perennial Quest from Symbolic, for me this song is the essence of death: Riff, solo, message, OUTRO, it just has it all in one song.
