- Today’s feature is an artist that had had a few important ingredients to future success, talent, timing, and opportunity to be whatever he wanted to be in rnb music. When the trio of Ja Rule, Ashanti and Irv Gotti linked up around the late 90s early 2000s era and had their outstanding run in urban music, leading to hit after hit. Lloyd had the unique voice, the personality, and even the hair which was so valuable when he finally cut it for the first time as a celebrity, it was actually donated to help a charitable organization. But saving the Inc is not what ended up becoming of Lloyd’s in and out and some would call disappointing career. Unlike the aforementioned Murder Inc artist, a great selling album always seemed to allude Lloyd. He’d have the hits, like "You" feat Lil Wayne, "Southside" feat Ashanti and who can forget the club smash that lit up the dance floor "Get it Shawty" over the course of 3 albums. Not to mention "Dedication to my ex" feat the allusive Andre 3000, but that never amounted to the same success in sales, having just 1 album at his peak go at least gold. 3 Reasons LLOYD Miss His Window To Stardom! Lloyd should've been a star in the 2000s. He had enough hits to be, but for some reason his albums didn't sell like expected.
I think the wrong record labels and music changing from the Usher's, Bobby Valentino's and others if he came out 5 years earlier he would've been the man. But you had to be a R. Kelly carbon copy R&B thug like Chris Brown, Trey Songz was what was wave at that time. Lloyd weren't that.
Bing!!!!
My Brother no disrespect but its up to him if he want to still pursue a career as a singer , the music business can be anything right now , its more then selling albums that man does not have to do albums , he can just rock shows and sell merchandise or since he got a fan base that like his old music he can advertise for companies on his social media , artist new and old are doing alternative things to get the bag instead of relying on the old school mafia method to get money
I agree. Lloyd's still doing stuff in the industry. He's independent now tho so no major promo from big labels.
Thanks u I asked for this video after this one do a video about Mario he sings Let me love you
That street love album is criminally underated.
*underrated* ✌🏻
Coldest album to me, 🤷🏽♂️
Factz
Frfr
Yep
I think what hurt Lloyd in my opinion was being signed to Murder Inc during the beef with 50
That's exactly what it was
I’d say that’s a factor, but not the main reason
The Fed case played a bigger role
Should have stuck with lil Wayne and Young Money crew....Bed Rock...Wayne would have pushed his songs harder...
But Ja Rule "Clapped Back"...
Lloyd need to do a tiny desk concert and see if he can win back the people then drop a fire ass album.
He is such a class act and never bothered nobody and talented asf
Been a fan of bro for more than a decade now
He definitely should of been on the same level as Usher and Chris Brown dude has that kind of talent and star potential
😂😂😂😂😂 man had nowhere near the talent Usher & CB has
Lloyd was part of that era of R&B that was stifled by the industry changing the look and sound of the genre, too. In addition to the streaming era becoming a thing. A lot of R&B was left to the wayside around the 2010s
I like Lloyd. If he can hook up with the right producers, he can make a comeback by possibly reinventing himself as a songwriter or producer who can work behind the scenes.
Trust
@@rasheemfoster87 True that. Lloyd can still sing 🎤 and every good recording artist that dropped off the radar deserves a second chance.
There’s definitely a lull in R&B right now where the Lloyd, Mario, and Sammies could make a major comeback with the right production and writing. Just had to stay consistent and evolve.
the street love album will remain in rotation ❤
Facts
I was just listening to get it shawty 😂
😅
You forgot one of his biggest moments was doing Bedrock with Young Money and almost signing to them
Dam wtf i forgot he was on that song idk but I did
Im not into R&B but "You" was 🔥🔥🔥
Players Prayer is one of the best R&B songs of the 2000s…Lloyd in 2006-2007 was as hot as anybody. Def one of my fav singers growing up
He was definitely on fire those years
“STOP! Wait a minute!” 🎤 🎶🎼🎵
I feel what stunted Lloyd growth is not signing to Young Money after having the biggest single with Young Money Bed Rock and being featured on a biggest mixtape turned EP Drake So Far Gone
Lloyd got classics , not many artist can say that
Facts
I think its cool that you did this video but there should have been more research done. Theres so much more to his story.
Irv Gotti's trial affected alot of the artist on the label at that. Time.
Hurrican Katrina also occured during this time. Lloyds family is from Louisianna and many of them had to stay with him around this time as well.
And theres so much more
Lloyd's unsung episode was really good. It goes much into depth on what really happened with Lloyd
I found it interesting how he was always repping ATL.
I never even noticed his albums didn't sell. I was bumping all of them when they came out. His 2011 album i had on repeat.
It’s funny how he came out before CHRIS and TREY plus had just as much sex appeal but couldn’t remain‼️ He’s still a dope artist hands down and his hits are still playable‼️🏆👉🏽👨🏽🗣️🎶🎵💃🏾🕺🏾🔊
I remember hearing his music In GTA IV
I just got done playing it
His single “Tru” from his latest album of the same name was certified Platinum.
I remember a few of his songs dominating the radio. He ate.
You should cover Waka Flocka.
Honestly the Murder Inc & 50 Cent beef damaged Lloyd marketing & uprising. Street Love is a classic & his best album. He could’ve had better song writers after all that but the beef & being under the label Lloyd career suffered cuz of it.
I definitely thought based on his talent level that he would be a superstar, but it wasn't to be. But hey at least he could play sammy davis Jr in a bio pic lol
Crazy because he could’ve dead been the goat idk how in the hell he fell off that badly he’s actually talented
Best song was with eightball and mjg 💯💯💯
Do Lyfe Jennings he's super underrated
That street love album was 🔥🔥🔥
I still love Lloyd till this day. He’s on tour, he just needs to drop another for his hard core r&b fans! Signing with murder inc initially was his biggest moment and fastest down fall. But through our hai career it felt like he was winging it, he relied on close industry connects to help him like Pollow Da Don but he was always missing that TEAM. The talent was there he just didn’t have the right promotion and marketing team. If he came out during this era with Live nation and Empire he’d do good. But I’m happy he’s independent now. I think he’s such a humble man. 😍
I think you should do Turk from the Hot Boys next
His story and stunted growth is one of a kind especially coming from the South & New Orleans and being part of one of the hottest rap groups of all time
Hey, I requested Lloyd months ago
His hair genes to this day is undefeated always been a fan of his music and hair
My Boy Always Dropping Bangers From The basketball channel to the music channel keep it going 💯
One of my all time favorites.
I appreciate you Bro 💯💯💯
Lloyd Is what rnb needed to keep going post the 90s .
Man his "playboy diaries" mixtapes were good. These were like 10yrs ago
I purchased every album on iTunes & physical copies
Get it Shawty was my jam
That song caramel with the city girls jam
Crazy I was just looking for your info to ask if you'd do a Stunted Growth on N-Toon! 😂🥴. N-Toon next please.
I wonder does Lloyd regrets working with R. Kelly after hearing what R. Kelly had gotten arrested for
Any artists regret working with r kelly
Dude was a star he was #1 on 106&park like forever
Fast forward his song is trending on tic tok , I knew when I heard the audio it sounded familiar. They slowed it for content 😅❤. Song brings back sooo many memories
He didn't miss nothing he had his time and if you can't do more you just can't. But i always love his hair and wanted.
#DisneyDiva ❤
Super underrated
Wow Lloyd is only a year older than me.
Love his 🎵 and he's fine.
Damn both Get it shawty and You were my ringtones in highschool 😅. I feel attacked lmao. I still listen to his music these days though along with others then.
Get it Shawty is still a bop to me! A classic “two step with your girl” type of song. Fun fact: Usher’s little brother JLac produced the track for that song and he’s in the video too.
You should do a video on Marc Nelson, who was one of the original members of Boyz ii Men
You should do Tony Thompson (his solo career). Thank you.
You definitely gotta do one on Jeremih next
I liked Lloyd, I loved the way he did the hook on Caught Up with Ja Rule.
He didn’t sell out that’s why he not a a list super star we already know how this game work
First of all, much love and respect for how you keep these even and with no agenda. I am a High School math teacher in Baltimore and I incorporate you in my lessons to my students so they are aware of the pitfalls of a perceived lifestyle. But I do have a suggestion, what happened to the Lords of the Underground or other Jersey cats? Apache, Naughty by Nature, The Flavor Unit et al.
Stunt #4 he was too humble he was quick to jump on upcoming artists shit he was super over saturated before he was where he needed to be himself . Suprised bedrock wasn’t mentioned here but def appreciated n toon being mentioned. Ym offered him a deal and honestly i think he should have taken it .
Brownstone and Xscape would be a good one to do. 😊
Street Love was 🔥
Lloyd take forever to put out music but also love His song TRU the realest RNB song i ever of this time we need more songs like that stop singing about sex and love fr fr
You should do the video on the illegal
Like chicken wings on strings 🎶🎶
Lloyd Cool..
He Started With The Kid Group.. N Tune..
Sad cause he had a few great songs
Stunt #4 : cutting his hair. ANY artist that cuts their hair falls off -- don't believe me go do research and tell me if I'm buggin
Can you please do a video on J. Holiday and Lyfe Jennings?
Can you do Brutha and the group imajin?? I just curious to see what happened to them?
Great show can we do Aaron Hall next
He will come back because he can sang!
I always wondered about what happened in light off legitimate hits
Can u do a video on brother lynch, cbo, first degree?
I think Lloyd had the unique voice and the look to be a star and the hits but he never really had that album to solidify him. Like Trey (even though I don’t like him anymore) had two great albums but Ready made him the star he was, Chris Brown first album is dope but that Exclusive album made him a star. Usher My Way album and etc. Lloyd don’t really have that album to me.
Street Love was Lloyd best album. Can literally play it no skips. Sadly it was underrated
@@johnsoncameo18 might be underrated. I do that album but for some reason it wasn’t enough. Idk why
Can you do Q Tip
.and Nicole Ray..
Would you do styles p do you think his growth was stunted what you guys think. I also think styles p is one of the top rappers of all time as well
You should do Ashanti
He should've went to Young Money when Wayne gave him the offer. He had MJ dreams smh.
Do one for Chiddy bang
Can l suggest Mic Geronimo & Lichelle Laws aka BOSS 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Signed to murder inc and he came out when usher was at his peak and chris brown was just starting and both those dudes can dance and arguably sing better.
I heard a song yesterday and thought it was Chris Brown. It was just Lloyd 😢
Do you know what happened to Pro Era? The only artists we know of is Joey, Kirk Knight, Nyck Caution and CJ Fly. But there's other top notch artist in that group like A La Soul and Dessy Hinds. PE was like the Wu Tang of the 2010s, going against ASAP Mob and Odd Future WOLF Gang. And the East Coast version of Hieroglyphics with their 3rd eye lyrical subject matter. Their debut mixtape in 2012 was amazing. Why haven't they released another project together?
JC Ice Spice has in fact released a album but went unnoticed
😂 Lloyd did that like he invented it 1:17
S/o to the family but we can’t forget about his original group; N-toon !
Lloyd Ft Ja Rule - ATL Tales 💯💯🤌🤌🌋
Next….The Product G&B!!!!!!!!!!
Folks 😴 on street love
Banger
Man, once 50 Cent blew up, murder Inc. as a whole went down. People also say that 50 Cent was so hot back then that he even forced hova to retire.
Man if I had Lloyd's voice I wouldn't have even gotten famous. My thirsty ass would've just been singin women out they numbers in the mall😂
Do immature, Sammie, Bando Jonez aka Lil Corey, and 3rd Storee
Can you please do Vic Mensa and Amy Winehouse
Another R&B singer that was similar to Lloyd and was around the same time was J Holiday. Whatever happened to him?
What about avant- Joe Jaheim 😳😳
He look like a dark skin RNB Nipsey Hustle 😂😂
Anybody wit the last name "Polite" that can sing even a little bit, was born to be in the music industry 😂
It’s unfortunate, Lloyd had the talent , looks , style etc . I don’t know why his music career didn’t do better !!
I thought after he did the bedrock record it could’ve worked better for him to just be a feature guy like Andre ended up becoming. Always making fans want an album you can’t r won’t deliver because of the pressure of what people think it’ll sound like vs the reality of the product
TBH I fear Lloyd he looks like the noid…
Ha ha ya
Irv should have handled his emotions better.
