What Happened To The Omarion Era In RNB? Stunted Growth Music

- Today’s feature is a guy that was on fire in the early 2000s and showed the potential to be the next it male act in rnb. It began with his participation in the group B2K as their lead singer and face. He could sing, dance, write and act as well, and at the time, all roads seemed to point to him being the 2000s version of and rnb superstar. Looking back did he fall below those expectations? There’s an argument to justify saying that he did, as he never went platinum as a solo artist, even though understanding not every artist goes platinum, but as far as potential, many saw him being an artist that could sell to the masses. He was also set to own or at least have his time where he was the it guy in rnb, having his very own era he can lean on and say I was the #1 guy and that didn’t happen. It didn’t last, but for a short time B2K were the it group and Omarion was expected whenever he went solo, to be even bigger than that. He has 7 solo albums, 2 of which went gold, his first 2 albums were #1 in the country, and he has an extensive film and television catalogue. But you can not be disappointing and still not have grown into your potential. For these reasons, Omarion’s growth was stunted, and he didn’t have the career expected. You hit it right in the head, once Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, Trey Songz Came On The Scene, Omarion kinda shifted to the background, a b2k reunion back in 07 might have helped him as far as staying relevant
That would've been a better move.
Add Mario too
@@macho.813and Bobby Valentino as well as Lloyd
Pretty Ricky as well
That Breezy train came through
Meh, Omarion couldn't really sing.
Chris Brown was a taller, lightskinned, fake gangsta, tatted up, could sing and dance. What broad could resist him. He is literally everything they love.
@@17thNO , Chis could actually sing though!!!!! Go listen to those B2K records with Omarion as the lead! Might as well had Ronnie as the lead guy for NE. That is what B2K was like. They were young, handsome, could dance a little bit, with some decent song writters. It worked out for them.

An
Bow Wow being the reason for Omarion’s decline is mad funny 🤣🤣🤣
🤣 The shots on this video of him with Bow Wow tells the whole story.
Pure madness🤣🤣🤣
Yeah I really gotta sit wit that because ain’t no way I woulda ever thought that was the reason 😂😂😂
Fr... I think the rumors O and Bow Wow was pounding each other didn't help either.
Ayooooo🤣
Omarion went solo during a time where Chris Brown came out of nowhere and became an overnight sensation in R&B... Omarion songs were good but he couldn't deliver a classic album and he had to contend with other guys rising up in R&B and making better music than him at the time...
Man, I really miss that era of R&B, Chris Brown, Usher, Ne-Yo, Trey Songz, they were all in their prime. heck even T-Pain was poppin off.
That was 2005 it was a great year for male R&B artists at that time. Don't forget about Bobby Valentino he drop his debut in 2005 also.
Oh yes, he was good too, I can’t believe he had to change his name.
Yeah it was a good time
@@larrymarshall8900Only the Real ones remember that Bro. 👍🏿
Same! They ran the early 2010’s. Such a great time for music!
From 2004-2007 the playing field was very stacked in R&B
Yeah it was a good time
He was in a STACKED era. It's well-known that he and his B2K counterparts were "visual" artists. Meaning that they were known more for the aesthetics of their videos and their dance moves than pure vocals.
IMO, "Touch" and Ice Box were defining moments in his solo career. He's at his best when he's doing music that brings his choreography to life. Those are songs where the choreographies are married to the vocals. They're visceral.
BUT let's not forget that Post ta Be was one of the biggest song's of the 2010's. It just went 6x Platinum and will soon be at a billion views.
Annnndddd that included Chris Brown 🫠
And jhenenwho was more relevant at the time than him and is now as well
But b2k and Omarion are responsible for bringing Jhene to limelight or connection
That’s cause of the Groceries line.
@@Bosskawz_Beatsno that was Chris Stokes
Omarion was also surrounded by group and label drama that stunted his growth. The B2K drink Champs episode goes into a lot of detail of their issues
The boy band phase died out when their fans aged with them. It’s many answers to this and they all will be right but in my opinion R&B died when they kept featuring rappers on their songs and then R&B singers tried to be rappers and then the sound just became vulgar. Almost none of them can actually sing including Omarion. His good dancing kinda hid those deficiencies.
🎯
Yeah its tough to admit it. When De La Soul was asked by fans in a podcast radio interview about why spiritually culturally conscious Hip Hop died, they responded "Look.....ya'll (Gen X) grew up, finished college, started families and working two jobs, buying homes, and had less time and money for music. You left and moved on!! And Gen Y2k took over." Damn. That was a punch in the gut for me, cuz it was no lies. So I don't complain loudly about current music anymore.
Once Brown came into the scene it was a wrap.
It sure was
Yeah he changed the game
Omarion can't compete with Breezy voice either,
That's because breezy turned true rnb into pop smh
Absolutely agree 💯 a storm came when breezy stepped on the scene it was over hit after hit dude became huge soon as he came out I remember coming home from school it was 2005 I remember watching his first video on Bet Run it man I thought he was gonna be a one hit wonder because there was some artists that came out with 1 or 2 albums and they disappear but that wasn't the case this dude blew up quickly banger banger after banger and the performances he put on number 1 albums
Gotta do a "B2K" stunted growth.... legendary !! one of the biggest "what ifs" in music history. one of the top groups ever, no matter the genre, gender or race. **SHORT BUT IMPACTFUL RUN**
In a way its no need I think the masses of fans know that Chris Stokes and the Raz B situation tore through that group. Once Raz B went viral spilling all the dirt it was over.
Duhhh Thats the point ! thats proven 1 as listed to be one of the stunts already we all know that already. then the rest is so on, & so on.... its other stunts as well thats just the biggest one. its all relative to what the other 2stunts would be anyone, its up to @stuntedgrowthmusic he the one that makes em. im sure 100% of the viewers dont always agree with all 3stunts. I know idnt.... lol but then some i do, some might think one stunt was greater than another outta the 3 but wasnt incorporated. its like wateva its all relative, long as it makes sense & its not wayy offf then cool. End of the day it just entertainment that would be a good video. Hella Reallife crazy run !! @@diamondd8017
Mindless behavior needs an episode
They definitely do
Omarion had a head start and then well, Chris brown came and snatched that spot
Bobby Valentino is a must!
Yeah we need a video on him
Yes
Touch is one of the best R&B songs from that era that no one talks about
I totally agree!
......because of Pharrell Williams. (Who was doing background vocals on the track by the way) not him. Omarion as a singer is average at best.his thing is clearly performance.
@@irasimpson1465his performance is average too
That’s his only good song because of Pharrell Williams singing background vocals. The song is produced by Pharrell Williams.
@blakebrown84 agreed.i know Pharrell produced it which is why I brought it up good brother
Also in regards to boy bands, after B2K broke up you had Pretty Ricky, B-5, Day26 and Mindless Behavior after that the boy bands had died out
rnb boy bands cause one direction took over and so did bts
@@bgcrp2005 they broke up also
Don't these things go in cycles? 1950s solo acts (Jackie Wilson, James Brown, Elvis) replaced '40s male vocal groups, the groups came back in the 60s and early 70s (Jackson 5) to be replaced by solos again in 1980s (Micheal Jackson), to come back '90s/2000s, and now.....man c'mon! They'll be back.
The Hamptons came up as well. They were the ones who sang "My Jacket". But after that I really don't remember anything else from them at that point in time lol 😅. Then one for the girl groups I remember was G-4. I think they may have done something with B2K, but again it's really fuzzy.
That’s crazy my brother was a tutor on the scream tour…he says before the tour begun CB was just getting introduced to the game not even on the tour…to the next year he was headlining…crazy how much of an impact CB made on the rnb game
Im pretty sure Bow gave Omarion the biggest record of his life with LET ME HOLD YOU,so i see the reasoning behind the joint album situation, sadly lighting hardly strikes twice.
Stunt #4: Signing with MMG.
Another great episode. BTW, I'm still waiting for my request for you to do Twista, K. Michelle, Dom Kennedy and/or Freddie Gibbs
Dom K and Twista would be interesting choices forreal
Heavy on Dom K
U forgot that haircut, everyone fell off after the haircut..Melo, O, Iverson..Trey Songz too but he had a good run after the braids
When he did the face off album with bow wow that's what killed his solo run. Ice box, o, touch etc were hits. Bow wow was still looked at as a child and teaming up with him killed his momentum.
He did go platinum with "Post To Be" that Single went platinum
Signing with Naybach music did not hurt he was outting out better music then the 2010 album when he gor with Rick Ross in 2012 the Care Package albums were dope! Which led to Sex Playlist and gave him the platinum hit "Post To Be"
O just didn’t have the talent honestly. Chris Brown took off like crazy. Usher and R Kelly had their audience already. You had Chris, you also had Ne-Yo and he could actually write great great songs. O just didn’t have it. He could dance but Chris, I don’t think was that better of a dancer, had a better dancer’s physique. Taller, longer arms and torso.
Trey took the sex appeal angle
Chris had the charm
Ne-Yo had the songwriters appeal to him
T-Pain also had an intricate lane for himself.
All true.
Nope Chris brown is a far more competent dancer than omarion . He is literally a professional dancer . Omarion was good but style and skill level very simple . And that’s why he could not compete with Chris . Let alone Chris is a better singer . Also that front flip Chris did onstage with the friendly dance of with omarion . Was the passing of the torch omarion could only smile and acknowledge the greatness .
@@east32nd The best dancers typically have a longer torso and limbs. So he looks better physically
Hahaha Ciara & Chris leaving O in the dust on any dancefloor 😂😂😂
@@Enigmajestic1 okay?
Nothing happened to Omarion, he had ok vocals, That worked well with a group, He went solo, and his career did wat it was suppose to do, no one expected him to be the next MJ, Usher, Or major sensation. He still making music, He just dropped an album called full circle, Which is phenomenal, And I think he could care less about how successful it do or don’t, he’s more family oriented nowadays and just enjoying life
Lil Fizz is the the fourth biggest S I M P behind:
1. Steve Harvey
2. Marcus Jordan
3. Ye
😂😂😂
IMX walked so B2K could fly.
Omarion and Bow wow tried to do what Kelly and Jay fell short of doing that Chris Brown and Tyga succeeded doing which is makes a great Rap and R&B album.
Tyga and Chris do go good together but the FaceOff album was better than Fan of a Fan album
Jay & Kelly (Best of Both Worlds 1 & 2) were Classics Fella. 🎤
@@bjaxonain't no way 😂😂😂😂
Fan of a fan was dope
I was in middle school when Chris Brown came out of nowhere and stoled the show. You are right he’s more talented than Omarion plus he’s light skin so the girls went CRAZY over him. I remember how every girl in middle school had CB’s first Vibe magazine cover on their binders lol
Drake cause the most havoc on most artists careers. In my opinion even slightly Chris Brown. I witnessed some female went from a Chris brown fan into a Drake super fan.
Which is wild.
How can you say ‘dare I say’ when bringing up Kells? He will smash and of these damn stunted growths with one album. Knock it off g
What about (post to be) it went 4x platinum and ice box was a low key classic i think his biggest issue was his music didn't grow much after he got older
I honestly don't think he did that bad. I meant he stayed relevant.
I saw B2K 3times in concert they where my favorite group. I was in high school and teenagers.
Ayeeeeee did they have a good performance
Ever chance I got I saw them too
Chris Brown happened like literally a year after he dropped his solo album and it was a wrap after that
Yeah it was
Yo you should do Mya
You should do Tony Thompson (his solo career) and Billy Porter (his 90s R&B career). Thank you.
If you haven't done them yet I think you should do Tyrese and Tank. I always felt they were underrated
Yeah both were underrated
Do one on Tyrese please? After Signs of Love, his music career went down. He was more focused on Acting. Alter Ego was good in my opinion. I always though him and Usher would go back and forth with their music and collaborate back in the mid 2000s. Both did similar songs with Lil Jon. Tyrese is part if the Fast Family with Luda. Usher got hits with Luda.
Hey stunted growth! Since it's been 50 years in hip hop! Can you do the "top 10 beefs" in hip hop
that watermelon 🍉 situation wit mario at the versus kill his career cause wtf bro
That first stunt funny as hell lol
Please do B5 next!!!!
Hey, big fan of your work. Are you able to do video on American group born Jamericans. They were based outta DC and had a strong buzz in the early 90's 94-95 to be exact thanks.
Do you have one on Ludacris?
I figured this would be next
Man U gotta do Kidz in the Hall or The Cool Kids
Video on Ralph Tresvant (from New Edition) up next?
Bro, O came out in 2005, and Ollusion came out in 2010, So you throw in 21 and Face Off and that's four Studio albums in 5 years. Plus, he did numerous film and TV roles in that same time frame. He also changed record labels 3 times including trying to launch his own label all while holding the tour and appearance schedule of a top Pop/ R&B star at the time. Jay-Z was the only modern artist at the time dropping a new album every year. Omarion was putting in major work and taking full advantage of his star power at the time. His growth was by no means stunted.
Omarion was never going to be a classic R&B star the likes of the 80s and 90s stars we knew before him. Usher was still too young at the time and had a stronger vocal and music library, and Chris Brown had stepped into the Pop Star role that was typically filled by the white boy bands at the time. Omarion was something in between Usher and Chris and was always going to have to share his fan base with those guys.
It's never fair to try to compare artists to Michael Jackson or Prince, those are once-in-a-lifetime talents. Omarion has been in the game for over 20 years now and has never gone more than a couple of years without releasing some kind of content. Plus, he already has enough material to tour for the rest of his life. There are groups out there that have only released 2 or 3 studio albums that they have been touring on since the 80s or 90s.
O came out in 2004,
Do Backwudz and Cyhi the Prynce next.
7:37 he should’ve came out with an album when the Rihanna Situation happened
Honorable mention Lloyd, The Dream, J Holiday T-Pain and also R Kelly’s Double Up album most definitely side line Omarion from being on top the R&B field was too stacked
Goat
None of these guys could drop hits like Usher back then
(Post to be) went 4X Platinum
With like the biggest rnb artist and Jhene Aiko really sold that song. But yea you're right
Wow
Shit R.Kelly had a few eras.
Facts
You should do Jamal from Illegal
It's almost like chris brown was taking R&B singers shine back then and mabey still
Yeah he shut the game down
AGAIN I MENTIONED MARQUES HOUSTON BUT U DO ONE ABOUT OMARION
Stunted growth: Inspecktah Deck, Trina, SpaceGhostPurp.😊🎉
"Trey Songz with his sex appeal like a new age R. Kelly."
That's so outta pocket. 😭😭😭
I’m 35 o is sti pumping out great music 🎼 sexplaylist is a classic and his new album sonic book is awasome the only thing I learned is he never went platinum solo I blame cd to digital sales and mtv bet to RUclips. He still making hits
You should do j holiday
He also had a bunch of label issues . He stuck by Chris stokes and stayed over at Sony and now he doesn’t even mention Chris in interviews or anything. Then he was supposed to sign to young money and the deal never went through and then he signed to maybach music for one album and now he’s independent.
The weekend is that guy & Chris brown still killed it until this day 🐐

I had all 3 of their albums
I actually liked that Faceoff album but I was in HS at the time. I thought he was set to blow up after signing with MMG, I was really rooting for him
Omarion shines! He should have went pop like Usher instead of doing R & B. Should have dissociated from Stokes and Houston earlier also. He wasn't outshined. He just didn't have a good label and music that carries.
Omarion was more of an entertainer as a singer and dancer after he left B2K. The girls really loved the heck outta him. He has released 7 solo albums and have some film credits to his resume. He doesn’t deal with his bandmates anymore because they were too toxic for him. B2K also didn’t last because of external issues and personal problems. The group disbanded because of Chris Stokes. They hated him. Doing an album with Bow Wow had him lose some credibility. He was a child star like Bow Wow. Also, he was signed to Timbaland’s label Mosley Music Group and Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group. He also appeared in Love and Hip Hop: Hollywood for one season before he decided to leave. He did that to get B2K back together and he dated Apryl Jones at the time. As far as his era, I just think Chris Brown, Trey Songz and Ne-Yo have dominated the R&B charts as one of the biggest superstars.
The mid 2000s he was the guy after b2k but then CB came along trey songz Mario came out in 2002 but he was big in that mid 2000s Era also what a time to be alive in that time great music 🎵🎶
From Usher to Chris Brown, let’s take a closer look at some of the most iconic male R&B singers of the 2000s. There were a lot of R&B acts during that era and they were Lloyd, Jaheim, Tank, Bobby V, Lyfe Jennings, Anthony Hamilton, Avant, Pretty Ricky, Donell Jones, Carl Thomas, 112, Dave Hollister, Day26, Tyrese, John Legend, Maxwell, Next, D’Angelo, Seal, Justin Timberlake, Charlie Wilson, Pharrell, Ginuwine, Mario, Akon, Kem, Bruno Mars, Miguel, The-Dream, Ray J, Musiq Soulchild, Eric Benet, and Mario Winans
@@DontressSmith Usher was the most popular R&B acts during that era because he had a great run of hits. He has worked with Lil’ Jon and Ludacris for Yeah, Red Light and Lovers & Friends. Usher changed the game and made the genre for what it is today.
@@blakebrown84 I agree with you I'm not saying that he definitely was I'm just saying Omarion was Poppin around that time also I'm not saying he was bigger than usher at the time absolutely not but what im saying he was definitely doing his thang than what 2 years later CB comes along and takes over I gotta give him credit for what Omarion done around that time after B2k
@@DontressSmith yeah I do, Omarion is more of an entertainer than he is a singer. He has practiced his dance moves a lot. Chris Brown try to be a Michael Jackson, but he can’t never ever outperform him because Michael has put in too much work effort for someone like Chris to outdo him. Michael Jackson was the smartest musician to ever outthink the music industry when he was alive. It was those money-hungry monsters who were jealous of Michael’s success. Omarion wasn’t a perfect person at all. He did lose to Mario in Verzuz and it shows that he’s not great of an entertainer. I don’t think Omarion was ready when his bandmates refused to deal with him. B2K as a group never really got along with each other because they lasted from 1998-2004, then 2018-2019. They have disbanded twice. Omarion hasn’t succeed in building relationships with other musicians.
Number 3 was the biggest reason, to me.
Shout out to JT Stunted Growth for doing my request.😊😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉🎉
Omariobs first album was good. Hes always had good singles and some of his best music was under Maybach but they didnt know what to do with a lot of their artists.
So what i got was blame bow wow
I actually liked the album Faceoff but I get it now looking back how they could have been damaging or it should have been done prior before realizing mature albums like “O” and “21”. Even though Faceoff has mature records on it.
Please do Jamie foxx
What happen to Jaheim,Joe, Case, Sammie 🗣️🗣️🤔
You know what we need those episodes
Good one
Same thing with groups in pop and R&B that were just put together, money ,label, or member issues. At least Omarion was the able to find some solo success.
Can you do one on mo3 plz he the best rapper/singer mix i ever heard come outta Dallas #LL3
Can we please get a SD (GBE/TrulyMafia) video?
B2K bump bump bump.....
I was a huge B2K fan and loved Omarion’s first album. I wouldn’t blame Bow Wow for Omarion’s popularity declining. I blame it more on the fact that his music stopped being good and as I got older, I realized he really cant sing. Like, yea he looks good, can dance, but his vocals are not good.
OMG... I miss this era of music. Omarion, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo. I had no idea they blamed his decline of Bow Wow :(
O & MH should do a Joint Album together for fr
You should do Frank Ocean..lol

Loooove him, & Frankie J even though his growth kind of never started in "mainstream" eyes
Omarion new album was just number one before u made video....😂😂😅😢
Omarion & CB have similar songs… entourage = fine china girlfriend = shawty like mine
The problem was stokes did a lot wrong moves when 21 came out the album was fire but the label didn’t put money on the singles anyways I feel wrong moves like YMCMb lost years to drop a album from 2007 to 2010 and breezy, Trey and neyo was dropping bombs and so many bangers
I can't agree. Bow wow still had hit way past that album. Plus that corny stigma came after he stopped rapping. Teenage bow wow was still one of the more popular ppl in the world. Stunt number 2 and 3 were the real reasons
I loved the FaceOff album tho
Mr Icebox himself. Man.. wasn't for the Face Off album...
