short dudes have a low center of gravity- it can be an advantage for sure. Us tall heads can pop a bit higher, and skating big transition can work. But being shorter is an absolute advantage, in snowboarding too.

I'm 6'6" and I can definitely say that at this end of the spectrum it's a massive disadvantage due to higher centre of gravity, limbs that hyper extend and are therefore easier to injure and just get in the way when falling (which BTW we fall further and harder!) and lastly far less equipment being made for us (how many 15"+ WB normal popsicle decks exist?). Also, the "tall people can pop higher" thing is totally overrated. Perhaps there's a tiny advantage, but honestly pop has much more to do with technique and explosive strength than how long your limbs are.

Taller skaters - and all athletes for that matter - tend to face attrition at a faster rate. That taller skater may be able to utilize longer limbs to reach a higher pop, but that also means a further way back down. All of that builds over time. Which really does give a lot of credit to someone like Corey Duffel. That's a tall dude who made a career taking massive impact. And he's STILL skating at a relatively high level going into 40. 1:12 You are correct sir. Medium/short height is best because of lower center of gravity, and shorter fall with less impact. Jaws would argue that, but he completely compresses when he lands. If Jaws were to put on weight, he would splat the ground every time. Core strength with knowledge of how to keep hold of a good center of gravity. Depending on where in your body you take the length will make a huge difference as well. I still think if Wee Man were just a smite taller, he’d be breaking Andrew’s neck with the skillz that would prevail LMFAO 😂

I'm 6'4" and I learned to skate when I was really young. I was really average height until I hit a growth spurt my freshman year of highschool. I grew almost an entire foot that summer, so much so that I actually have stretch marks on my back. So when I got back into skating after I graduated college, I've found that because my center of gravity is so much higher now, getting my weight correct has been the hardest thing to compensate for. It actually makes it really frustrating because it adds another variable in addition to foot placement, muscle memory, and all the other nuanced parts of skating. No excuses though, this is the hand I was given and at 32 years old now, I am the most consistent now than I've ever been. But I do think my height makes it a bit more challenging as compared to when I was younger.

    I'm 6 foot 245 lbs and I skateboard.
Going down even a 3 stair hurts like hell! I skate ledges mostly
Shorter and lighter skaters have a much bigger advantage because they can send down much taller terrain and are much more secure on the board and not crane-like

I’m 6’3 and when I slam you can feel the vibrations across the continent. I can pop tricks pretty high though.

Smaller means lower center of gravity so more stability, it's that simple
also you right Dan, with proper training and explosive muscles you still jump pretty high so it's not really a handicap, no one tries to jump 3ft high every day anyway

How does a low center of gravity help you pop onto a hand rail? Also the problem with this logic is that balancing is one of the easiest parts of skateboarding. Popping and flipping the board is what’s hard .

If you're tall you need huge balls, to lower the center of gravity ;)

It’s harder to have good style as a short skateboarder, however you can probably stay on the board a little more easily.
Taller people just have a more fluid look while shorter skaters typically have a more jittery style.

I guess if the boards were different lenghts (they only vary like an inch in that dimension) it wouldn't make a difference, but it's easier for someone shorter to spread their legs a bit more relative to their height and to be more stable.

As a 5’9 guy in my prime of skateboarding I could never understand how people flip to grinds on flat bars, or ledges like y’all are doing in this video. I could only ever flip to grind down handrails! 😂 I still don’t understand how you can flip on flat and catch it on a ledge or flatbar. I always need to huck myself down stairs or a hubba in order to flip into a grind.
Don’t know if that’s due to height, but that’s like my biggest problem when I was skateboarding.

Tech skaters like Luan, Shane, Prod, Pj, Tom Asta, micky papa, all range from 5'6 to 5'11 yet they flip into grinds and slides all the time. As far as I'm concerned, flipping into ledge tricks is all about having a good flick technique. They all jump high and have a weightless flick that allows the board to elevate and suck up to their feet. Either you're not jumping high enough or your flick might be too "weighted" which prevents the board from being allowed to elevate to your feet.

There’s a documentary I think I saw it on RUclips, I forget the country I think it was India, they get a surgery where they break there legs and but them in a brace and stretch them out to make them taller, it’s terrifying
