- Just purchased this engine from ATK and so far all is good. Engine does pack a punch, well packaged and delivered with the spark plug wires and plugs. You can really here the cam in this engine which sounds good. No complaints so far and still in the process of the break in procedure.

Bro,that whip is beautiful!!!! Sounds FN AWESOME!!!!! Looken to put this 383 in my c10. Thanks for your video
Man, this would have been cool to buy as a package, without the headache I had of having to match parts. In the end, I can't complain and absolutely love my 383 sbc. Lots of power and fun.
Sounds really good got a nice chop to it
I added the same valve covers on my ATK motor as well
Nice work
I just ordered their 500hp 383 long block for my 71 Chevelle. The wrist pin in cylinder 7 said peace and took the hell off of me on my 350, so I went for it after reading its seemingly endless list of goodies at a very good price. Mine is the HP55 model but should be very similar the heads and stuff sound like they are the same ones, so I'm not sure what exactly is different. They do advertise mine as a 500hp engine, so it may just be a slightly bigger cam and a couple of other things. I'm not too sure at the moment. But very similar to what you are saying. Thanks for posting this it's reassuring to hear a happy customer brother. Yo, that cam is nasty man hell yeah. That engine sounds good. Do you know if me having a 4-speed and our engine being a late-year one-piece rear main seal, oil pan, and roller cam small blocks I would need a one-piece flywheel huh?
Great story! Not sure though on your question
@godsoutlawneto Lol thanks. That's okay I did end up finding out that yes I need a flywheel for a one-piece rear main seal engine. So I ordered one and got it. It is a lighter one so it should be nice and nasty. We are waiting on a couple of things and will drop this puppy in this summer. Stay up dude and nice ride.
I'm getting ready to order one for my 91 Camaro
@Mayhem Maverick I got mine last week did you get yours yet??
@Mayhem Maverick I waited six weeks for mine from the order date to delivery date it was exactly 6 weeks
What exhaust do you have on that thing? It sounds good!
Thanks!
3” tips Flowmaster
Flowmaster exhaust and H-piped
What kind of transmission you running for your 383 boss?
Currently a 350turbo. Goal in about a year is the 4L80E.
hows the atk performance engine runnin thus far. Debating if i should go thru ATK for my 5.7 hemi
No
Still good? I'm trying to decide which engine to get for my Chevelle.
Still running good Larry. Just put 300 miles on it and feels like it is getting stronger.
Go big block in your Chevelle, I love the sbc, but not enough for a heavyweight, rec port 454 all the way
How long did it take to for it to deliver?
Not long at all. I think less then 2 weeks.
Would you still recommend ATK?
I would.
But, But will it spin the tores
It'll light em up for sure. 💨💨💨
What's it idling at ?
I have it now at 7-800. In the video timing was a bit off and was probably at 500. Did some re-calibration and now she sounding really good!
What's the price on that engine my brother??
Summit got it at about 6k.
Have you had any more issues with the motor? I’m looking at buying the same one for a t bucket.
A manifold leak and a water pump leak. Gaskets replaced but ATK took care of it through warranty with no issues.
Idle it up before cam goes flat
Why’d it die in the beginning
Just installed it. Little fine tuning needed with timing. She’s good now💪🏽
@@godsoutlawneto do a new video
It died because probably because he is missing his pcv valve. Can be the timing but it shouldn’t be if it started at the crank at the key. Idle mixture screws don’t sound to be right. And motor itself Dosent sound cammed. You can almost certainly make any 350 have a little chop without that pcv valve.
I’m curious about the reasoning why you wouldn’t purchase it if you could go back?
Well..at first the flex plate they sent was had a manufactured defect. I went and bought a good quality one and was reimbursed.
Then the water pump bolts backed out while I was driving (not torqued to spec) and made me blow a head gasket. Had to re-crare and send back thinking they would of sent me a new engine but instead they re-built it. Took a few months to get back and a huge lack of communication almost making me feel like I was at fault. Then there was a manifold leak. Took it to a mechanic to fix and was reimbursed. Pretty much my story. In the end they did fix the issue but my personal man hours did not get reimbursed.
@@godsoutlawneto sounds like a headache and a half bro but these things happen. Bought a 383 stroker from West coast motors and had some hiccups but customer service was on par and all parts replaced immediately
@@orlandor4866 Good to hear. I can’t complain on the warranty response and coverage with Atk but I have already had a few fixes. With High performance engines you have to expect it but I only have less then 2000 miles on it.
I'm thinking about this motor, atk has many. Did you see how much hp it really makes to the tires?
No I do not. But if I can turn back the hands of time I would not purchase ATK. Long story..
@@godsoutlawneto Did it come with a warranty? I have a 68 camero and it has a tired 305. I here bad things about blueprint motors too so it's not as easy as I thought
@@Robs1968 yes there is warranty.
godsoutlawneto thinking about ordering a 350 from them , you wouldn’t recommend it ?
@@godsoutlawneto long story short, why not, please? I was just about to get one until I seen this comment. Please let us know why you would not have gone atk.
It come with the dart heads
Yes.it does.
Mine came with dart heads that's all ATK uses on their engines
my man!. thinking about 350 330 hp for 85 caprice
As of now I am experiencing some quality issues with ATK plus their customer service is all bad. Not to happy right now with them.
@@godsoutlawneto I heard about this issue any other alternatives you would have gone with? I have a 77 nova I’m getting ready to swap
@@yugisgrandpa2356 I was looking into west coast engines.
@@godsoutlawneto can I ask what issues you are having ?
@@rogerkint9354 the water pump was not torqued to spec, bolt came out on a long drive and water pump detached from block and resulted in 2 blown head gaskets. Not happy with Customer service (warranty) dept.
How much did that motor run you?
Approximately $ 6100
@@godsoutlawneto that’s sweet. I’m stuck between this one and blueprints 383, both have similar power but this one makes slightly more with a better chop but blueprint can have power brakes so I’m stuck lol
@@braedentrebell3718 comes down to personal preference. I'm sure either way you'll make a good decision.
@@godsoutlawneto thanks a lot man, love your ride🤘
@@braedentrebell3718 Im having the same debate
Sounds great.. Did u have to do any adjustments Timing/Carb? Thanks
Yes! You will need to do both as it comes as a long block so both distributor and carb you install, therefore initial timing and idle, specially with a fairly big cam, need to be set. As far as actually changing metering rods in a Edelbrock carb like I am running, a wideband air to fuel ratio guage is your friend. I am running a AEM guage and its oxygen sensor I installed in the middle of my H pipe. Invest in a wideband afr guage of your choice (from a reputable company and not a chinese waste of money one) Auto Meter, AEM etc and you my friend will be golden. No more guessing. You want to be at around 14.7 at idle and in the 12.8 range at wide open throttle. Thats the magic spot and what the engine needs to do its best. If you are like my friend who just must have true duals as exhaust he is running 2 glowshift units one for each bank of the engine so that both are accurate as the sensor will obviously only read the output of the exhaust of one of the headers.
