still I found some of their deaths somewhat symbolic. the very way they died was mirrored by something the obsessed over. Eudgil was a pride-full hothead who wanted to prove she was the best of the 5 and worked alone. (to be fair though she did have the widests array of targets) Her lack of keeping her head on straight and letting Mimet getting to her resulted in her death. Mimet was obsessed with good looking guys & stardom that she only targeted good-looking men and overlooked a fatal fault in a machine Eudgil made *but never used* which allowed Tellu to come in & literally pull her plug. Tellu basically sold heart snatching plants that would seem harmless but then after a certain time, woukd attack the person with some kinda gas. She later injects an overstimulize and growth (not 100% sure which one) into the very plant she created. this ends up killing her. Villu was obsessed with science without emotional attachments (love for mankind & wanting to help) and was a cold-hearted bitch. So the fact she was beat by an emotion-based weapon and was desolved till all that was left was her nano cuff which too desolved shortly after her body was gone. as for pistol & cyprin? they worked too closely together. if they're blindsighted and torn apart? well they destroy each other by accident. also? *I'm pretty sure only Kaiorinite was obsessed with Dr. tomoe, hence how mistress 9 kills her outright because she's not really needed anymore. just a thought on that one.* oh and sorry for the spelling mistakes.

Given that for the most part, not including certain movies mind you, the most you see of Team Rocket is Jessie and James I sometimes wonder how they can still be counted as part of Team Rocket as a whole. I mean sure they report into the head of Team Rocket from time to time, but really, when you break it down I can't help but wonder just how much they really are connected to the main group in the eyes of other Team Rocket members?
at this rate i doubt giovanni truly even cares about them. that's probably why he gives them the same job: get pikachu. and he knows they will never do it, but it keeps them out of his office. to giovanni, jessie, james, and meowth all rank lower than the grunts.
But he never did give them that task. They decided they wanted to give Ash's Pikachu to him because they believed it was the most powerful one out there. In fact you never hear him tell them to do anything really other then that one time he told them to 'do their job' that was about it.
I have theory about Team Rocket: Jessie, James, and Meowth were decent villains before they met Ash, heck they even had wanted posters. Anyway, when they met Ash (and his friends) they began to think of them as younger siblings. They may not realise they think of them like this, but their subconscious do. This explains the simply avoidable mistakes they often make, if they subconsciously sabotage their own plans. They've shown they care about Ash and the gang on multiple occasions, and they also have shown they are capable trainers. They helped Ash and his friends defeat teams Aqua, Magma, Galactic, maybe Plasma I don't remember, and team Flare. They were also very good at their jobs in the best wishes series, excluding the ones involving Ash. So in conclusion (besides me obviously having way to much time on my hands,) Jessie, James, and Meowth have a pretty good track record, at least excluding meetings with Ash. Thank you for reading my theory, even if it was pretty bad.

She was the villain for only 2 seasons, and she won in the first of those two. She was never meant to be incompetent or nonthreatening, while J&J+M's direction changed from threatening to incompetant before they made it to Pewter City. They were actually fairly decent in episode 2, but hooh boy, they were clearly changed rather quickly.
Nigetai I think some are supposed to for story telling purposes, but I also think some were supposed to come off as, well, villains that ACTUALLY do shit (or accomplished their goal(s)). However, it could be lazy character progression/development telling or maybe just a filler arc with 0 progress that relate to in the main story. If this makes any sense.

Classic, but maybe a bit overused. They're been at the same losing antics for over twenty years and never realized their true calling might be in sales. Have you seen them in the Sinnoh series
ya know ill give them that. as much as they suck as villains and even antagonists, at LEAST they are still lovable. plus there are times when they actually become dangerous. just most of the time they waste money on useless gadgets instead of training their pokemon. they could easily be competent trainers if they put more effort in training rather than in hairbrained schemes.
I've had a theory about Jesse and James for a while now: I think team rocket specifically assigns them to handling Ash and whoever he's with that month, just because they're so incompetent, they don't want to risk Jesse and James sabotaging something of actual value. There's no way they're actually there to capture Pikachu. Team Rocket cloned Mew with just a tiny fragment and made a significantly better model! They can easily clone a bunch of Pikachu without too much effort. Also, in Pokemon Chronicles in "Training Daze", we saw that Jesse's actions led to the injury of several previous partners. They then assigned James, who wasn't performing well in the program, to be her partner. At that point, that's what you do to get rid of people you don't want around. Nobody could have anticipated that they'd actually be successful. In the English dub, they were even reassigned to Antarctica briefly in one episode but ended up chasing Ash and company anyway! At this point, Team Rocket is probably all "eh, fuck it. Just let them chase that kid around so they don't screw anything else up.".
Thats actually a VERY good theory. I haven't watched the show in sometime, stopped before Hoenn when learning that Misty won't ever be coming back and completely stopped after learning that Brock was removed too (I know they made cameos in Hoenn and in the newest season respectively, but thats all that is, cameos nothing more so unless the writers get off their rears listen to the fans and actually permanently bring Misty and Brock back, I'm not watching the show anymore).
Champion Yoshi If you think about it, they are good villans and most of their plans work until the very end when someone stops them. They always steal the Pokemon, but they always lose them.
My pick for worst villain in Anime: King DDD from Kirby: Right Back At Yeah. Not only does this guy constantly have his schemes foiled by 2 children and a pink circle with the metal capacity of a baby (that's not a joke, Kirby is canonically a baby), he also never catches on to the fact that the company he purchases his monsters from is scamming him; price gouging him and/or selling defective monsters so he'll have come back and buy new ones. Seriously, DDD makes Bowers look Augusts Ceaser.

I watched the English dub so it's Tiff and Tuff for me. But I will admit the original Japanese is automatically superior since Kirby is voiced by the same voice actress who voices him in the games.

She was the worst of the 3 Gorgon witches. How she was related to Arachne and Medusa is beyond me. Her design was okay, but her character/personality was lack-luster, her overall play could've been done better in more competent hands. Lastly she is the only witch in SE history (as far as I know) to be killed by NOT students. Just sad.
My best guess 1 mother different men. Since in the witch kingdom it is primarily witches (who are mostly female) who rule. So I doubt any man in the boundaries of the witch kingdom would argue with a witch. And they have confirmed that Shaula is actually the youngest of the 3. Even with a bad eye he could've done it. But if he did it in front of the hospital they would've had him on the outside camera. Then there's disposing of the body, which would've left blood and dna inside the car. Even if it was a rental the dealership would have him on file for renting the car at the time. Then Asuna was awake at the time so she could've exposed Sugou's operations to the world which would resulted in his company being shutdown and him being arrested, then they'd have that on top of the murder. So in truth whether Sugou had run Kirito over or not, the moment Asuna woke up, Sugou was screwed. So Robyn if Sugou had run Kirito over he'd actually would've been worse off. His best option should've been to trap Kirito's mind in the virtual world and experiment on it with everyone else. But then that would also lead them to question Alfheim Online so Sugou was screwed anyway you slice it. The moment Kirito made it into the core system Sugou was screwed.
Even though I like SAO,( don’t hate on me) I always hated that guy.He a weird pervert and sick in the head. When Kirito slowly killed him in the game, I had an evil smile on my face. He literally kept Asuna trapped in a game against her will and seeing him pay for what he did was so satisfying.

Like, there is very little intersection between Team Rocket's dastardly deeds and Ash's heroic destiny. Both are small fry from the other's perspective. As far as Team Rocket is concerned, Ash is just a kind of strong trainer. One of millions. And after the first few seasons he was not in their main operating area. Even his Pokemon are mostly common. Meanwhile, when Ash actually has to do something heroic, it typically involves the fate of the world. Team Rocket is the mafia. They are usually not a threat to the fate of the world. Basically, they just do not have much to do with each other. Team Rocket is successful despite the blundering of some worthless goons. Sure, they are villains, but they are not Ash's villains.

There was one detail about Yashiro that was omitted. Namely the SECOND factor in his becoming a serial killer. After drowning those hamsters and discovering a single survivor, he wound up remembering a story called "The Spider's Thread". A story that he actually recounts in episode 11 AND is actually referenced in Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword.
As much as I love Erased, I really wished they stuck with the Yashiro in the manga rather than this one. A lot of the changes they made for the anime made things seem too convenient like Kayo going to live with her grandmother. But the two worst changes were the downplaying of Airi’s role and of course Yashiro.
To be fair Jesse and James can be successful when they don't go after Ash's Pikachu like when they stole that one meteorite from museum during Black & White.
As incompetent as Team Rocket is, I still love those 3 goofballs, especially James. He's not really all bad and has a lot of love and respect for the Pokémon on his team, clearly shown since, more often than not, he actually ASKS if a Pokémon wants to join his team! This love goes both ways, as is demonstrated by the numerous PDAs (Painful Displays of Affection) from a fair number of his Pokémon: Victribel chomping on his head, Cacnea's prickly hugs, Carnivine hugging him AND chomping on his head, etc. Easily one of the best running gags in the series, imho XD

to be fair, this was because ash keeps resetting most of his team when he starts a region. Team rocket also gets new Pokemon at the start of each region. They were simply given the bigger advantage for that fight. Still a fair fight, but mostly cause ash isn't willing to carry at least one fully evolved Pokemon for all his trips. Pikachu seems to regress when each region starts. Not like having 4 empty slots would still prevent him from making new friends instead of 5. He's just making himself needlessly lose at this point cause "it be boring if he won every time." Which he could very well have a better win-loss track record if he dipped into his powerhouses (past and present) for every gym, and not just one for the leagues
You talking about the Trix? They were a bit "meh" as antagonists. Stormy was overly impulsive and was just begging to get kicked aside. Darcy tried her best, but seemed to be little more than a puppeteer. If Icy was less power-hungry and more sadistic, she could've made a decent villain on her own.
Blackcat Core it's Alucard, and MY GODS a fight between Sebastian and Alucard, especially if to protect their masters, would last for weeks, just keep hitting and landing blow after blow, to no actually consequence

Alright let's get it started. 1. While GT had some holes it wasn't that bad. And given how Supers is progressing now I feel like what happened at the start of GT could actually still happen now. The problem is like you say they just want let the Pilaf joke die. And it's sticking around even longer in GT. But at least Pilaf joke gave us Mai x Trunks Ship. 2. Naraku. Again the problem with this is that despite everything he's done throughout the series; the real villain of Inuyasha was never Naraku. The true villain was always the Sacred Jewel itself and everyone else including Naraku were it's pawns. In fact Naraku realized this but also realized it was too late for him so in the end he just continued to play the Jewels game until he could find someone to destroy it. So in truth Naraku is the unpraised hero of Inuyasha. He played them all along to make sure they could do what he couldn't and destroy the Shikon Jewel. 3(lastly). Jessie, James & Meowth (Team Rocket). With this one it's tricky. While they constantly fail at their main televised mission: Capturing Pikachu, they actually succeed off screen. Giovanni keeps them on as his Team Buster. Because ever since Hoenn Jessie, James, and Meowth have assisted Ash in taking down regional factions one after another behind the scenes. And whenever they do it opens up the region for the Main Team Rocket Operations to move in with little challenge. And they've also shown that they could be quite competent at times. Though it was shown in the worse part of the franchise Pokémon BW. During the 1st half of BW their operations did not focus on Ash and most resulted in staggering successes. It was only when Ash was involved that they resulted in failure. The train heist a near success if not for Ash's involvement. Controlling the 3 elementals: near success if not for Ash and the Mirror's maddening effect. So in short if Ash and his friends aren't involved at all Jessie and James normal have a good track record success. Also they know about the 4th Wall. When I work of fiction learns about the 4th wall they essentially become or are immortal. Joker, Deadpool, Whis, Pinkie, etc.
In defense of team rocket, they started a massive improvement in best wishes. They had plots where they showed prowess at villainous things, and didn't just follow ash around everywhere. Unfortunately, all that development went nowhere because this was best wishes after all.
First off, I'd like to see a video compairing the Bakugan villans and explaining Zenoheld's place in the honroable mentions, becasue Bakugan was a part of my childhood, and I think you guys can have a bit of fun with it. Secondly, in the Japan/Canada collab Tenkai Knights, the two main henchmen Granox and Slyger are about as incompitant as Team Rocket.

The odd thing about the Team Rocket trio is in the rare ocassions when they don't face the main characters they can be surprisingly competent. Which means Ash and co only win thanks to ridiculous amounts of plot armor. Also, as far as I remember these three act mostly on their own. Giovanni probably doesn't even know what are they doing all the time because of how little fucks the rest of the organization gives about them.
@10:26-12:12 And this is why I have always preferred season three of Sailor Moon Crystal over the original anime version of Sailor Moon S, the villains actually do care for each other and while each members of the Witches 5 worked individually in season three of SMC, they actually do work as a team when they are together. Plus, Kaorinite was a lot more useful in SMC III, than she was in the original. So you know that the anime reboot series had to do something right. That and Haruka and Michiru aren't a bunch of bitches to the other Sailor Soldiers in Crystal, like they were in the original version. I mean, sure, Haruka was a bit naughty in Crystal with her little affair with Usagi, but hey! At least Mamoru was forgiving Usagi for being in a little bi-curious, even though she was unaware that Haruka was a woman this whole. Yeah, I know. It's confusing. But hey, that's anime for you. I mean, so what if Mamoru ain't mad, *"HE'S PRINCE CHARMING, REMEMBER?!"*

Before video: Oh this list is perfect for naraku from inuyasha, he's the biggest coward ever seen for villains just constantly letting others fight for him even though he'd be more than powerful enough to kill them then and there. After video: FUCKING CALLED IT!!!
sanna karppinen oh absolutely and it just makes is worst that he keeps doing the same thing for nearly 250 episodes. Say what you will about sosuske aizen from bleach, he just let the dominoes dropped as he planned, but he at least did some stuff himself and shows that he truly does have a good amount of destructive power, which is more than I can say for such a lazy coward that is naraku. And the sad part to all this is that not a lot of people pointed out the flaws of naraku and believed he was a great villain, even though he's actually crap.

I actually am going to support Naraku on this. His inaction is representative his delusions of nobility. And the fact that he did not get his wish is representative of the corruption of the sacred jewel. In the end the shikon jewel is the ultimate villain. Naraku isn't Noble he isn't powerful in himself. He's a lowly Bandit who sold his soul and stole all of his power.
From what I heard, there were plans to cut TR back in Gen5, but fan popularity saved them. And by this point, they're pretty much iconic just as Ash is. It's far too late for Pokemon to pull a Pokespe and change the core cast, and while they had the perfect opportunity for Advanced (sending off Brock and Misty, they could've sent Ash and Rocket off too), they never took it. Maybe they wanted to keep faces recognizable or feared backlash?
All I know is that Ash will keep being the main protagonist of the Pokemon anime until his popularity starts going down...Or until the writers retire. Whichever comes first.
I'd argue it's not entirely Pilaf's fault he sucks at his job. From a narrative standpoint, it's purely because Dragon Ball was originally a Gag manga. Pilaf was meant to be the incompetent putz he is today, and in at least that regard, he succeeds.
Sam M Pilaf wasn't successful at ruling the world though because the future trunks arc in Super pointed out the only living emperor Pilaf gang member living left was Mai; the rest of the pilaf members were killed off by Zamasu and Goku Black...
You make a good point as people keep forgetting that DBZ and Dragon Ball as a whole is meant to be a comedy hence why the show remains to be cartoony despite the shift in tone.
When talking about Eggman you mentioned he was light-hearted like his Archie counterpart...you do realize he would do things like replace a servants failing body parts with ineffective machine parts so he could force her sister to work for him or else the girl would die right?

Same here. Plus they always feel the need to spout their repetitive 10 LINE MOTTO(11 if you count Meowth), 2-3 times in almost every episode! Which is why I always put the TV on mute whenever they did that(no joke!) HELL! F***n' Mon Colle Knights had a shorter motto than you, AND only say it once per episode. And Sailor Moon only had 4 lines of Dialogue in her intro.
Maybe Jessie and James are used to make Team Rocket look incompetent just so people won’t treat them seriously, having the real members with their evil plans, slowly taking over the world. Now that would be a cool movie.
Sorry Robyn but the moment Kirito made it to the core of Alfheim Online Sugou was scewed and nothing he could've done would've helped. Trapped him Alfheim and Brainwash him: the process wasn't complete yet and it could've taken days or weeks to work properly. At the time there were witnesses who say him make it to the top of the Tree and to here about this would've led them to question Alfheim Online, Investigate it, possibly shut it down, and release Kirito exposing a possible secondary operation of the game, conduct a full investigation and Sugou would've still lost. It just would've taken longer but Sugou would've still lost. And if we're talking about at the hospital if he did run him over, Asuna was already awake. So she would've exposed Sugou to the public and then they'd have him for both brainwashing, illegal experimentation on humans, and murder, which instead of life imprisonment would've got him the death sentence. The moment Kirito made it to the top Sugou lost.
I've got some complaints for the number 9 entry (Spoilers Below); Yashiro isn't actually that incompetent. His backstory is explained much more in the manga, the dude was obviously a sociopath with a fucked up past, the drowning hamsters is him talking about his first experience killing and a poetic example of how he was entertained by the chase of trying to finally catch Satoru and win the chase. After Satoru teases that he knows Yashiro's future, Yashiro becomes obsessed with finding out the answer, and can't find that thrill or drive to kill anymore because nothing matches the chase he had following Satoru. Without the time travel powers of Satoru and the 15 years of missing the thrill he lives for, Yashiro was a lot more competent and calculating. He succeeded in murdering the kids in two different timelines, and would have murdered Satoru in the 3rd if he hadn't teased that he had traveled back in time. Yashiro was actually very calculating, he was just disturbed, and the fact he was battling a man who could travel back in time, of course he'd be rusty after 15 years. This isn't a case of Yashiro's incompetence, it's a case of the anime not expanding on his backstory enough, and a man who could travel through time defying the odds to defeat a methodical serial killer, and the fall of that killer after never being able to outdo Satoru or overcome his own obsession with the chase. In short, I really like your stuff, but I think you guys /really/ missed the mark putting him on the list.
You could say that in a way. Honestly they mistake 'lack of exposition on backstory and motivation' for 'lack of character depth' in the video, in reality all you need to know is that he's a psychotic, sociopathic murder who loves the thrill of killing and is calculating. It's the anomaly that is Satoru's time traveling that causes him to get sloppy and obsessive over Satoru over those 15 years he's in a coma. He still managed to form a backup plan even after Satoru's first travel to the past, it took him a second travel to the past to finally foil Yashiro's plans, and if he hadn't made a vague hint to being a time traveler, Satoru would have died and Yashiro would have gotten away with it. That was the moment that turned Yashiro from cold and calculating to sloppy and yearning for a challenge, and realized he'd never get the same challenge and sick fulfillment he would from besting Satoru. Satoru in the end just barely managed to save himself, and realized that Yashiro would never find another person like him to chase, and that without him, Yashiro would have no more reason to live, no hunt challenging enough to meet what Satoru stoked in him.

still I found some of their deaths somewhat symbolic. the very way they died was mirrored by something the obsessed over. Eudgil was a pride-full hothead who wanted to prove she was the best of the 5 and worked alone. (to be fair though she did have the widests array of targets) Her lack of keeping her head on straight and letting Mimet getting to her resulted in her death. Mimet was obsessed with good looking guys & stardom that she only targeted good-looking men and overlooked a fatal fault in a machine Eudgil made *but never used* which allowed Tellu to come in & literally pull her plug. Tellu basically sold heart snatching plants that would seem harmless but then after a certain time, woukd attack the person with some kinda gas. She later injects an overstimulize and growth (not 100% sure which one) into the very plant she created. this ends up killing her. Villu was obsessed with science without emotional attachments (love for mankind & wanting to help) and was a cold-hearted bitch. So the fact she was beat by an emotion-based weapon and was desolved till all that was left was her nano cuff which too desolved shortly after her body was gone. as for pistol & cyprin? they worked too closely together. if they're blindsighted and torn apart? well they destroy each other by accident. also? *I'm pretty sure only Kaiorinite was obsessed with Dr. tomoe, hence how mistress 9 kills her outright because she's not really needed anymore. just a thought on that one.* oh and sorry for the spelling mistakes.

Given that for the most part, not including certain movies mind you, the most you see of Team Rocket is Jessie and James I sometimes wonder how they can still be counted as part of Team Rocket as a whole. I mean sure they report into the head of Team Rocket from time to time, but really, when you break it down I can't help but wonder just how much they really are connected to the main group in the eyes of other Team Rocket members?
at this rate i doubt giovanni truly even cares about them. that's probably why he gives them the same job: get pikachu. and he knows they will never do it, but it keeps them out of his office.

But he never did give them that task. They decided they wanted to give Ash's Pikachu to him because they believed it was the most powerful one out there. In fact you never hear him tell them to do anything really other then that one time he told them to 'do their job' that was about it.
I have theory about Team Rocket: Jessie, James, and Meowth were decent villains before they met Ash, heck they even had wanted posters. Anyway, when they met Ash (and his friends) they began to think of them as younger siblings. They may not realise they think of them like this, but their subconscious do. This explains the simply avoidable mistakes they often make, if they subconsciously sabotage their own plans. They've shown they care about Ash and the gang on multiple occasions, and they also have shown they are capable trainers. They helped Ash and his friends defeat teams Aqua, Magma, Galactic, maybe Plasma I don't remember, and team Flare. They were also very good at their jobs in the best wishes series, excluding the ones involving Ash. So in conclusion (besides me obviously having way to much time on my hands,) Jessie, James, and Meowth have a pretty good track record, at least excluding meetings with Ash. Thank you for reading my theory, even if it was pretty bad.

She was never meant to be incompetent or nonthreatening, while J&J+M's direction changed from threatening to incompetant before they made it to Pewter City. Nigetai I think some are supposed to for story telling purposes, but I also think some were supposed to come off as, well, villains that ACTUALLY do shit (or accomplished their goal(s)). However, it could be lazy character progression/development telling or maybe just a filler arc with 0 progress that relate to in the main story. If this makes any sense.

I've had a theory about Jesse and James for a while now:
I think team rocket specifically assigns them to handling Ash and whoever he's with that month, just because they're so incompetent, they don't want to risk Jesse and James sabotaging something of actual value.
There's no way they're actually there to capture Pikachu. Team Rocket cloned Mew with just a tiny fragment and made a significantly better model! They can easily clone a bunch of Pikachu without too much effort.
Also, in Pokemon Chronicles in "Training Daze", we saw that Jesse's actions led to the injury of several previous partners. They then assigned James, who wasn't performing well in the program, to be her partner. At that point, that's what you do to get rid of people you don't want around. Nobody could have anticipated that they'd actually be successful.
In the English dub, they were even reassigned to Antarctica briefly in one episode but ended up chasing Ash and company anyway! At this point, Team Rocket is probably all "eh, fuck it. Just let them chase that kid around so they don't screw anything else up.".

Thats actually a VERY good theory. I haven't watched the show in sometime, stopped before Hoenn when learning that Misty won't ever be coming back and completely stopped after learning that Brock was removed too (I know they made cameos in Hoenn and in the newest season respectively, but thats all that is, cameos nothing more so unless the writers get off their rears listen to the fans and actually permanently bring Misty and Brock back, I'm not watching the show anymore).

Not only does this guy constantly have his schemes foiled by 2 children and a pink circle with the metal capacity of a baby (that's not a joke, Kirby is canonically a baby), he also never catches on to the fact that the company he purchases his monsters from is scamming him; price gouging him and/or selling defective monsters so he'll have come back and buy new ones.

Then there's disposing of the body, which would've left blood and dna inside the car. Even if it was a rental the dealership would have him on file for renting the car at the time. Then Asuna was awake at the time so she could've exposed Sugou's operations to the world which would resulted in his company being shutdown and him being arrested, then they'd have that on top of the murder. So in truth whether Sugou had run Kirito over or not, the moment Asuna woke up, Sugou was screwed. So Robyn if Sugou had run Kirito over he'd actually would've been worse off. His best option should've been to trap Kirito's mind in the virtual world and experiment on it with everyone else. But then that would also lead them to question Alfheim Online so Sugou was screwed anyway you slice it. The moment Kirito made it into the core system Sugou was screwed.

Uh, the thing is that Giovanni gives exactly zero craps about Ash. He is probably unaware that Ash even exists. He just shuffles the useless henchmen off to somewhere far away from anything important and hopes that they eventually manage something.
Like, there is very little intersection between Team Rocket's dastardly deeds and Ash's heroic destiny. Both are small fry from the other's perspective. As far as Team Rocket is concerned, Ash is just a kind of strong trainer. One of millions. And after the first few seasons he was not in their main operating area. Even his Pokemon are mostly common. Meanwhile, when Ash actually has to do something heroic, it typically involves the fate of the world. Team Rocket is the mafia. They are usually not a threat to the fate of the world. Basically, they just do not have much to do with each other. Team Rocket is successful despite the blundering of some worthless goons. Sure, they are villains, but they are not Ash's villains.

After drowning those hamsters and discovering a single survivor, he wound up remembering a story called "The Spider's Thread". A story that he actually recounts in episode 11 AND is actually referenced in Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword.

As much as I love Erased, I really wished they stuck with the Yashiro in the manga rather than this one. A lot of the changes they made for the anime made things seem too convenient like Kayo going to live with her grandmother. But the two worst changes were the downplaying of Airi’s role and of course Yashiro.
To be fair Jesse and James can be successful when they don't go after Ash's Pikachu like when they stole that one meteorite from museum during Black & White.

As incompetent as Team Rocket is, I still love those 3 goofballs, especially James. He's not really all bad and has a lot of love and respect for the Pokémon on his team, clearly shown since, more often than not, he actually ASKS if a Pokémon wants to join his team! This love goes both ways, as is demonstrated by the numerous PDAs (Painful Displays of Affection) from a fair number of his Pokémon: Victribel chomping on his head, Cacnea's prickly hugs, Carnivine hugging him AND chomping on his head, etc. Easily one of the best running gags in the series, imho XD

to be fair, this was because ash keeps resetting most of his team when he starts a region. Team rocket also gets new Pokemon at the start of each region. They were simply given the bigger advantage for that fight. Still a fair fight, but mostly cause ash isn't willing to carry at least one fully evolved Pokemon for all his trips. Pikachu seems to regress when each region starts. Not like having 4 empty slots would still prevent him from making new friends instead of 5. He's just making himself needlessly lose at this point cause "it be boring if he won every time." Which he could very well have a better win-loss track record if he dipped into his powerhouses (past and present) for every gym, and not just one for the leagues

1. While GT had some holes it wasn't that bad. And given how Supers is progressing now I feel like what happened at the start of GT could actually still happen now. The problem is like you say they just want let the Pilaf joke die. And it's sticking around even longer in GT. But at least Pilaf joke gave us Mai x Trunks Ship.
2. Naraku. Again the problem with this is that despite everything he's done throughout the series; the real villain of Inuyasha was never Naraku. The true villain was always the Sacred Jewel itself and everyone else including Naraku were it's pawns. In fact Naraku realized this but also realized it was too late for him so in the end he just continued to play the Jewels game until he could find someone to destroy it. So in truth Naraku is the unpraised hero of Inuyasha. He played them all along to make sure they could do what he couldn't and destroy the Shikon Jewel.
3(lastly). Jessie, James & Meowth (Team Rocket). With this one it's tricky. While they constantly fail at their main televised mission: Capturing Pikachu, they actually succeed off screen. Giovanni keeps them on as his Team Buster. Because ever since Hoenn Jessie, James, and Meowth have assisted Ash in taking down regional factions one after another behind the scenes. And whenever they do it opens up the region for the Main Team Rocket Operations to move in with little challenge. And they've also shown that they could be quite competent at times. Though it was shown in the worse part of the franchise Pokémon BW. During the 1st half of BW their operations did not focus on Ash and most resulted in staggering successes. It was only when Ash was involved that they resulted in failure. The train heist a near success if not for Ash's involvement. Controlling the 3 elementals: near success if not for Ash and the Mirror's maddening effect. So in short if Ash and his friends aren't involved at all Jessie and James normal have a good track record success. Also they know about the 4th Wall. When I work of fiction learns about the 4th wall they essentially become or are immortal. Joker, Deadpool, Whis, Pinkie, etc.

In defense of team rocket, they started a massive improvement in best wishes. They had plots where they showed prowess at villainous things, and didn't just follow ash around everywhere. Unfortunately, all that development went nowhere because this was best wishes after all.
First off, I'd like to see a video compairing the Bakugan villans and explaining Zenoheld's place in the honroable mentions, becasue Bakugan was a part of my childhood, and I think you guys can have a bit of fun with it.
Secondly, in the Japan/Canada collab Tenkai Knights, the two main henchmen Granox and Slyger are about as incompitant as Team Rocket.

The odd thing about the Team Rocket trio is in the rare ocassions when they don't face the main characters they can be surprisingly competent. Which means Ash and co only win thanks to ridiculous amounts of plot armor.
Also, as far as I remember these three act mostly on their own. Giovanni probably doesn't even know what are they doing all the time because of how little fucks the rest of the organization gives about them.

And this is why I have always preferred season three of Sailor Moon Crystal over the original anime version of Sailor Moon S, the villains actually do care for each other and while each members of the Witches 5 worked individually in season three of SMC, they actually do work as a team when they are together. Plus, Kaorinite was a lot more useful in SMC III, than she was in the original. So you know that the anime reboot series had to do something right. That and Haruka and Michiru aren't a bunch of bitches to the other Sailor Soldiers in Crystal, like they were in the original version. I mean, sure, Haruka was a bit naughty in Crystal with her little affair with Usagi, but hey! At least Mamoru was forgiving Usagi for being in a little bi-curious, even though she was unaware that Haruka was a woman this whole. Yeah, I know. It's confusing. But hey, that's anime for you. sanna karppinen oh absolutely and it just makes is worst that he keeps doing the same thing for nearly 250 episodes. Say what you will about sosuske aizen from bleach, he just let the dominoes dropped as he planned, but he at least did some stuff himself and shows that he truly does have a good amount of destructive power, which is more than I can say for such a lazy coward that is naraku. And the sad part to all this is that not a lot of people pointed out the flaws of naraku and believed he was a great villain, even though he's actually crap.

I actually am going to support Naraku on this. His inaction is representative his delusions of nobility. And the fact that he did not get his wish is representative of the corruption of the sacred jewel. In the end the shikon jewel is the ultimate villain. Naraku isn't Noble he isn't powerful in himself. He's a lowly Bandit who sold his soul and stole all of his power.

From what I heard, there were plans to cut TR back in Gen5, but fan popularity saved them. And by this point, they're pretty much iconic just as Ash is.
It's far too late for Pokemon to pull a Pokespe and change the core cast, and while they had the perfect opportunity for Advanced (sending off Brock and Misty, they could've sent Ash and Rocket off too), they never took it. Maybe they wanted to keep faces recognizable or feared backlash?
All I know is that Ash will keep being the main protagonist of the Pokemon anime
until his popularity starts going down...Or until the writers retire. Whichever comes first.

I'd argue it's not entirely Pilaf's fault he sucks at his job. From a narrative standpoint, it's purely because Dragon Ball was originally a Gag manga. Pilaf was meant to be the incompetent putz he is today, and in at least that regard, he succeeds.
Sam M Pilaf wasn't successful at ruling the world though because the future trunks arc in Super pointed out the only living emperor Pilaf gang member living left was Mai; the rest of the pilaf members were killed off by Zamasu and Goku Black...
You make a good point as people keep forgetting that DBZ and Dragon Ball as a whole is meant to be a comedy hence why the show remains to be cartoony despite the shift in tone.
When talking about Eggman you mentioned he was light-hearted like his Archie counterpart...you do realize he would do things like replace a servants failing body parts with ineffective machine parts so he could force her sister to work for him or else the girl would die right?

Sorry Robyn but the moment Kirito made it to the core of Alfheim Online Sugou was scewed and nothing he could've done would've helped. Trapped him Alfheim and Brainwash him: the process wasn't complete yet and it could've taken days or weeks to work properly. At the time there were witnesses who say him make it to the top of the Tree and to here about this would've led them to question Alfheim Online, Investigate it, possibly shut it down, and release Kirito exposing a possible secondary operation of the game, conduct a full investigation and Sugou would've still lost. It just would've taken longer but Sugou would've still lost. And if we're talking about at the hospital if he did run him over, Asuna was already awake. So she would've exposed Sugou to the public and then they'd have him for both brainwashing, illegal experimentation on humans, and murder, which instead of life imprisonment would've got him the death sentence. The moment Kirito made it to the top Sugou lost.

I've got some complaints for the number 9 entry (Spoilers Below);
Yashiro isn't actually that incompetent. His backstory is explained much more in the manga, the dude was obviously a sociopath with a fucked up past, the drowning hamsters is him talking about his first experience killing and a poetic example of how he was entertained by the chase of trying to finally catch Satoru and win the chase. After Satoru teases that he knows Yashiro's future, Yashiro becomes obsessed with finding out the answer, and can't find that thrill or drive to kill anymore because nothing matches the chase he had following Satoru.
Without the time travel powers of Satoru and the 15 years of missing the thrill he lives for, Yashiro was a lot more competent and calculating. He succeeded in murdering the kids in two different timelines, and would have murdered Satoru in the 3rd if he hadn't teased that he had traveled back in time. Yashiro was actually very calculating, he was just disturbed, and the fact he was battling a man who could travel back in time, of course he'd be rusty after 15 years.
This isn't a case of Yashiro's incompetence, it's a case of the anime not expanding on his backstory enough, and a man who could travel through time defying the odds to defeat a methodical serial killer, and the fall of that killer after never being able to outdo Satoru or overcome his own obsession with the chase.
In short, I really like your stuff, but I think you guys /really/ missed the mark putting him on the list.

You could say that in a way. Honestly they mistake 'lack of exposition on backstory and motivation' for 'lack of character depth' in the video, in reality all you need to know is that he's a psychotic, sociopathic murder who loves the thrill of killing and is calculating. It's the anomaly that is Satoru's time traveling that causes him to get sloppy and obsessive over Satoru over those 15 years he's in a coma. He still managed to form a backup plan even after Satoru's first travel to the past, it took him a second travel to the past to finally foil Yashiro's plans, and if he hadn't made a vague hint to being a time traveler, Satoru would have died and Yashiro would have gotten away with it. That was the moment that turned Yashiro from cold and calculating to sloppy and yearning for a challenge, and realized he'd never get the same challenge and sick fulfillment he would from besting Satoru.
Satoru in the end just barely managed to save himself, and realized that Yashiro would never find another person like him to chase, and that without him, Yashiro would have no more reason to live, no hunt challenging enough to meet what Satoru stoked in him.
You know, they could of done it better if they just made that guy be like Yoshikage Kira from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 4. They are basically the same, but one of them is more entertaining.
I left a similar comment. Yashiro is practically a textbook study of a serial killer and their tendencies and mindsets, but I guess most people don't study criminal psychology for fun like I do.
