I am not saying Schumacher is bad, all I am saying is nobody get equal treat, I respect every driver on grid, even Lance Stroll, he has money ok but he is not that bad, he has some potential, he need to work more hard. Respect everyone on the grid, racing and risking their lives. I wish I could watch more Schumacher vs Montoya , atleast we have Leclerc vs Verstappen
It took F1 14 years (and Kimi specifically), to break that record. The BMW-Williams of Montoya in pre-qualifying: 262.2426 kph (2004) vs Kimi´s Ferrari in qualifying: 263.588 kph (2018).
Montoya's temperament was his biggest enemy. It made him make mistakes a lot and alienated him in the F1 world. But when it was his day, boy was he a joy to watch or what ?!?
At a time when Schummie was untouchable, the Colombian Maestro stepped in and showed no respect... Only driver who challenged him. May not of won a championship but he was my driver!!!
In Qualifying, Rubens was half a second slower. In the dominant Ferrari car. Also in history, Schumi crashed during the race weekend. He emerged unhurt, but just lay down beside his totaled car for a few minutes. People speculate that that moment was when he began to seriously think of retiring, which he did two - odd years later.
Montoya was a beast when it came to pure speed, overtaking and lap time. But he wasn't very smart about "taking back" sometimes for the points and crashed more than he should have. Sadly. I really liked him in the F1.
DoubleGstudio Come on man! Least count in Mph is much better compared to Knots. If speed would have been like 1500 or somewhere then it would have been a good idea to have a new Meausring system.
In 2004, a golden year for F1, I was exactly 11 years old and since the only A-list representative that my country had at the time in the category was Barrichello, but since he never corresponded the expectations post-Senna, I actually preferred to see a fellow South American, Mr. Juan Pablo Montoya, running like a thunder on the Williams (when it was still Williams) than to see Rubens sucking up for Schumacher and Jean Todt in Ferrari.
This will always be the the true lap record for me. If these cars had slicks, many of the records would still remain unbeaten to this day. Just pure, unassisted performance!
@@B__L granted (and I'm TC's biggest critic) but that wasn't my choice to have it but the FIA's. It's unassisted in the fact there's no DRS and no battery modes giving you performance, just the natural power of the engine. Was my Sunday afternoon. After lunch, settle down for the first stint, gradually fall asleep to the drone of those V10s, little nap and awake again for the second round of pit stops.
+Nictavius No it wouldn't :D You could fight for top 10 finish with a Minardi from that era but pitstops would take a lot longer with refuelling so you would still struggle to keep up.

That is correct. From 2001 until 2004 the cars got faster and faster thanks to technology like traction control. After 2004 most of it got banned. Nowadays F1 cars are getting faster by the year too, mainly thanks to more horsepower, but they look and sound like shit.
It´s the downforce. Monza is a track that you benifit from not having that much of down force. The down force of the modern cars is better, therefore not as fast at Monza.
@koronás udvari chinpokomester but grooved tires have less contact for grip around the corners. The grooves was a regulation to decrease grip on the cars
@@carlosgaviriachannel its quite strange that Kimi said there's less grip on the new cars, as opposed to the old in an interview with Montoya a few years back.

At least the drivers drive the cars now compared to the computerized shit they drove 10 years ago. Traction control, launch control, computer controlled engine braking. Less driver skill was required back then. Halfway through a corner they could just floor the pedal. And at the starts they just had to hang on and let the car sort it out.

+George Day Dude, I think this is bullshit. These cars didn't have DRS. Say what you want, but to me DRS doesn't count as "car speed". take away the DRS and let's see how many seconds 2015 cars are slower.
The cars are junk, half the reason I watched f1 was because of the cars and their exotic designs and high revs, I haven't watched since they went to V6 turbos. my mini van has a V6, hardly impressive. V10s that rev up 19,000 RPMs now that's impressive. The racing is a little more competitive today but the cars are so damn unimpressive. Might as well watch Indy car. You think they could combine some of todays technology with some of yesterdays technology to make an ultimate machine. I'd like to see them go back to refueling too, it adds a little more drama in the pits and you can shorten the cars so they're not as long as a limo.

@@yungamurai I dont know if a woman can run it. But she certainly isnt able to bring sponsors. So many billionaires love pumping their ego in F1. With the history that Williams has she cant bring some money?
@@digolaverdad7313 There were rumours that Honda approached Williams after their split with McLaren but Sir Frank turned them down because of the way Honda left Williams for McLaren back in the 80's. I don't know if it that's true but imagine Williams with 100 million backing from Honda, plus free engines, more sponsors and possibly a top driver paid by Honda.
No Slicks...mate there's nothing wrong with having slicks. They are naturally faster than grooved tyres, grooved were brought in to slow them down. If these 2004 cars used slicks and where developed around Slicks, the lap times would be scary quick. And I'm talking 1:16 around Monza would be possible. Hypothetically speaking of course!
That's my point. There's no harm in having any of the things I mentioned. They all make the car go faster. But in 2004, the cars were faster than today without all the electric bits, a turbo or DRS, but they had better greater engines and mechanical grip. The slicks of today actually slow the cars down thanks to what Pirelli have been asked to produce.
+LisztyLiszt they had way more electrical bits back then compared to todays f1 cars. Traction control, launch control, computer mapped engine braking. It took alot less skill to drive these computer cars.
+Rottensteam So why have there been numerous reports from ex drivers, industry experts etc saying the cars nowadays are the easiest to drive ever? Yes the torque is artificially higher because of electrical motors and the steering wheels are like Nintendo consoles but just watch a Hakkinen race and see how hard the drivers werr working, how exhausted they were after the race etc.
+Hedley Thorne several say they're still difficult to drive fx James Allison, Ferrari engineer, says so and those who says its easier today compared it to the 1980s era with those fairly "primitive" turbo cars with huge amount of turbo lag, those were really difficult to drive, the throttle almost worked as an on-off switch. But compared to the 2001-2007 era these cars are more difficult, look at how bad Kimi performs in a car without driver aids.
I wonder how much quicker he would have been on full slicks instead of the silly grooved tyres the FIA made teams run. If I remember rightly this was the wonderful BMW V10 engine that revved to 20,000 rpm and they had qualifying engines, which only just lasted for the qualifying. The race engine was fitted in overnight for the race next day. Wonderful decedent racing. Montoya was great and did not take any crap especially from Mr Schumacher. Perhaps not the best driver but very good and a joy to watch. He took a completely new line at Monaco which I believe he won.

And DRS

In 50 years time, they gonna make F1 sound like a prius..
Sad thing is that it's already happening to hypercar, exotics because of dumb entrepeneurs and they're 'luxury quiet comfortable' view of cars
+shadowlago95 But unfortunately we are running out of petrol so we are kinda stuck with that possibility unless they use bio fuels or use a hydrogen/water powerd car.
+Dylan Cotton Exactly what you say, and the EU has a lot of strict emissions rules for car manufacturers to adhere to. Since most of the world's supercars and hypercars are built within EU borders they have no choice but to build more efficient cars. Which has given us the most powerful cars in history, so yeah sound may be a bit less exotic, but the power has only gotten more and more extreme!
+coenijn Yep as long as there is a tonne of power that's fine

Montoya was a non faceted diamond. A true talent non exploited and underrated.
Well said.
Race lap record still held by F2004
Unassisted? Are you okay? They literally had traction control
@@B__L granted (and I'm TC's biggest critic) but that wasn't my choice to have it but the FIA's. It's unassisted in the fact there's no DRS and no battery modes giving you performance, just the natural power of the engine. I guess 2004 is a season where F1 cars are fastest ever.
That is correct. From 2001 until 2004 the cars got faster and faster thanks to technology like traction control. After 2004 most of it got banned.
Nowadays F1 cars are getting faster by the year too, mainly thanks to more horsepower, but they look and sound like shit.
I like the look they have now but agree they sound awful
Just imagine if these cars were allowed to have slicks!!
It´s the downforce. Monza is a track that you benifit from not having that much of down force. The down force of the modern cars is better, therefore not as fast at Monza.

He did that on grooved tires, Damn that was fast.
@koronás udvari chinpokomester but grooved tires have less contact for grip around the corners. The grooves was a regulation to decrease grip on the cars
Ok, everybody does realize that F1 went to a treaded tire to slow the cars down, right? Micheal seems to be the only other one that knows this...
@koronás udvari chinpokomester Yeah, that seems to be it. Monza's pacy straights combined with a lack of corners played a part here.
@@carlosgaviriachannel its quite strange that Kimi said there's less grip on the new cars, as opposed to the old in an interview with Montoya a few years back.
@@Ronnie-fx1fq is true. Reduced aero producing less down force on the newer cars was a regulation to make F1 more entertaining to watch with more passes between competitors during a race.

+Dortle Erm, Well, this years cars will be significantly faster than last years on Monza, with the fastest speeds seen since the 2004.
+Dortle At least it's not just a noise parade!

@@Marc98338 tHAT IS why i used past tense
No slicks, no DRS, no KERS or ERS and no turbo. Just a big engine, a good chasis and a committed driver.
