You must have an Echo device or other brand hub which contains a Matter over TBR (Thread Boarder Router) to create a Thread network within your home. The following Amazon Echo devices have built-in Thread border routers: Echo (4th generation); Echo Show 10 (3rd generation); Echo Show 8 (3rd generation); Echo Hub; Echo Studio (1st and 2nd generation); Echo Plus (2nd generation). Assuming that you have one of the aforementioned devices containing a TBR, as I do, you may still experience problems getting some devices to connect. This is because the Matter over Thread ecosystem needs to improve and evolve to a more stable and reliable protocol before it becomes the smart home standard. It is still quite quirky, to say the least.
Hi Bud, could you confirm that the illuminance sensor is working independently from motion? So it would update the lux value in a time interval without having to detect any motion. And also, could the SmartThings hub show this as two devices (illuminance and motion) or keep it under one device?
In the ST app, with the custom edge driver, using the Aqara p1 sensor, you have the option to construct routines that are triggered by Motion or Illuminance. Illuminance can me set to (Match, Equal or above, Equal or below, or a Range) of "lux". However, my understanding is that the P1 sensor will not send updates until motion is detected. The stated purpose of this setup is to reduce battery drain. The sensor values for (illuminance and motion) are combined in a single device.
@@BudsSmartHome In my Motion Sensor P1 device settings has only a) Detection Interval b) Trigger Indicator c) Sensitivity Adjustment but no illuminance lux display.

Which device did you purchase? The Zigbee sensor or the Matter sensor? If you purchased the Zigbee sensor, you have to have a Zigbee capable Amazon echo device.
Did you consider that the P1 requires an Aqara Hub to connect to another ECO system? It will not work unless you buy an Aqara hub to go along with your existing ECO system.
You don’t need the Aqara hub for SmartThings. It will install and work perfectly with the edge driver referenced in the video. Video here: Aqara P1 Motion Sensor Unleashed: Unlock Full Integration with SmartThings Without Aqara Hub! ruclips.net/video/kaXl-7rLt74/видео.html
@@BudsSmartHome Since you started talking about Homey I was referring to Homey. I have Homey because I don't want to buy hubs for every ECO system. As Matter and Thread start to be included in more products it should make things easier and less expensive to build out my smart home.
To my knowledge, you can connect the Aqara P1 sensor to Homey as well without having the Aqara hub. You need to use the Aqara app which can be found here: homey.app/en-us/app/com.xiaomi-mi/Aqara/
Nah you just need Zigbee hub, i connect P1 to Yandex home (russian smart home) without any problem. And it must faster then you connect to aqara, and from aqara to your hub.
I have the M3 hub, and the P2 connected the first time, I re paired it and it never worked again and other matter devices won't pair with M3, so dissapointed
Matter was supposed to be the revolution of 2023, and here we are end of Q1 2024 with matter slowly but surely NOT being implemented NOWHERE ! I could laugh, but its very sad in fact.
Yeah, it’s been very disappointing to say the least. I had a power outage the other day and my Matter over Wi-Fi devices lost their connection and had to be deleted and re-added. I had to do this with five devices. The matter over thread devices were fine.

Hi J Moey. The illuminance level is displayed in the Aqara device settings screen.
