Those have to be installed by someone who understands the complexity of the installation and the software side. Looks like this installer was over their heads.

@@SureShotImages I understand your concern. But interestingly over the decades cars have become more complex and yet their reliability and longevity has increased rather than decreased. I know they recommend having that indoors and I haven't seen the inside of them, but it may be(against factory) viable to place them in a sheltered outdoor space. the insulation on line-set end is more than likely to keep it from condensing and water damaging indoors. as for the electrical/electronics, who knows how they're sealed and allowable ambient temperatures, but I'd imagine a very wide range. and fairly well sealed in case of crawl space or attic installation. one of the big issue I seen was no drip loops/bends on the line-sets, allowing any rain/snow/other to run straight down onto the plywood/house-wrap and into the equipment. the leak issue is likely bad flare ends and improper torque and id not be surprised if there was non-condensable crud in the system from leaking and recharging. it being low on gas, could allow much of the oil to be entrapped out in the system causing low to no flow to some areas and since it looks like all the lines ran mostly vertical, including to the condenser, having the control equipment down lower than everything is likely holding oil there and making the valving not work right. so yeah, pretty much shred it apart and reinstall with different layout, I'm guessing they want the distributors within a certain height of the evaporators for oil return and pooling issues.
Is there a complaint form with the NY Plumbers Licensing Board they could have filed? Maybe there are other faulty installations that he had done as well.
So am I correct in thinking the transfer switches are basically zoning a single condenser? If so, then how would they "not need" them? How would the zoning be done without them?
This is where Steve Lav's quote comes in handy: "Keep it simple, stupid!". Those "branch" boxes definitely should be inside the house. One-to-one mini-splits work way better most of the time (and simpler to maintain). How much micro-zoning (and oversizing) do you really need? Is there a server room in the house that needs to be kept 10-15 degrees lower than the rest of the house? Probably not. Good call on *NOT* getting married to that can of worms.
I agreed with you in everything you said 100% except for one thing, over engineering!!! branch boxes are designed to manages the flow of both refrigerant and power from the outdoor condenser to any connected indoor units. as long is install as per manufactured instructions, the system will be fine. in this case is not.
Mike that looked like a relatively new installation . I think I would have given them a price on removing all the components on the side of the house and reinstalling them properly it could be a nice job it’s pure labor and a little Freon ???
If the original installer jerry rigged the system to that degree and called it an install who is to say they did any damage to the rest of the system? Remember there is a leak to find. Doing anything with that system is potentially opening up a can of worms....
Better to just replace lower distribution box leak equals compromised system installation , need to spot leak ,acid test maybe then reinstall correctly the mini split ,gotta keep the kiester covered on that deal who knows what else they did wrong on top of ,💩 install job.✌️💪👍🤔🙏😔
Its going to be harder than you think. All the line sets leaving the heads have to run to a new location. Plus the 2 larger line sets from the condensor will be a much longer run to the D box. The location of each head was most likely chosen because of where the pipes were going, now an alternate plan would be in order. Plus the drain lines would have to be taking into consideration. 14/3 wires also have to follow D box to each head.
Those branch boxes also need to be flat. Installed on their side like that is bad. The leak is most likely inside the branch box. Anything over 3 tons in LG requires them, unfortunately.
I would have probably done the same. But honestly their best bet is to have a contractor build a proper weather proof housing around their branch boxes and found out which flare was leaking and reflared it.
Mikey pipes, do not shit on the "Friend"...some people pay their Friends less...I have installed lots of these and you are right about those BDBs, they have to be inside, but that said, those things would still work great if had made sure his joints were tight

Of course it was only the McDonald's toys getting tossed...but they just seen toys going in the trash never to be seen again. My kids always learned to obey and be honest cuz Dad always knows. Mom, Grandma's and aunts...oh god they spoiled them kids and had problems

Got love DIY hack job that end up being costly expensive lesson for the owners. Some shouldn't be any where near power tools or electrical for that matter
It's this kind installation that also give the manufacturer a bad name. I've seen several installed incorrectly with nothing but problems and the customer always blame it on the unit.
They had professional advice for free - what’s not to like? They need to extend that shed with the distribution manifolds in it, put a proper roof on it and clear the junk outa the house and put in the shed.👍
Been here before, but here in the Bayou, LOL Louisiana, but every time, I am the one they end up wanting to fix it and what ever the cost and they either just sue them or eat it.
It may be that was the only thing that installer could get at the moment and decided to make that work, or if LG is like American Standard, you have to sell so many units before getting the better stuff, who knows, but I agree, it was a shoty installation.
I've never seen anything like that before. I've put those type units in before and when we had more then one indoor unit they all hooked up right at the unit outside and didn't have all the pipes going to some junction boxes. That looked like a nightmare. I wouldn't have touched it either.
It's going to be a long 5 days without a video from you. I will miss you but you deserve a vacation. Is DanielSon gonna be putting a video out in your absence??
When you have multiple indoor heads, you can run the line sets to a branch box that is placed some where inside the house (attic or crawl space). That way you just run 1 larger line set from outdoor unit to the branch box instead of running each line set all the way outside.
Great video I think you called it right however you're probably going to have to give them a bid to correct their incorrect installation and reinstall it correctly for them and locate the leak source and get it straightened out I would imagine they're probably going to have to spend a little bit of money and I'm sure they would be happy to pay you to straighten it out cuz I don't think they're going to be capable obviously you may want to follow up with them and see how things are going if you have the time and the patience to straighten that mess out if it is even worth your while I don't know how much you can charge to do something like that they may have a lot of money they may have no money
That was a total shit show of a dumpster fire. People try to save money and end up spending more to correct the shitty install. Nice not charging them for the call. They'll remember that and call you in the future. Have a great time in P.R. It'll give you a chance to take a break and recharge. Take care and travel safe.
Probably could have fixed it for the next decade by finding the leaky joint in that circuit though… Actually it’s probably the distribution box that’s the problem because the other circuit wouldn’t work if the refrigerant was low right?
good call, I wouldn't have touched that thing with even the antenna that was above you in the beginning of the video. hahahaha I felt sorry for her and the kids that have to live in a warm house like that. I'm sure they will end up calling you for a re-install.
@@paulrozinski1488 hahahaha $159.95 plus the 3 year warranty and they will call the same guy to come back and install those. I wouldn't go back to that job unless it was a full rip out and complete new install of everything. 💰💸
Those boxes obviously need to go. If it were me doing the job, based on the age of unit, I would research if the evaps were able to be used with a standard multizone condenser. Then based on that I would give them a price to replace the condenser with a standard unit or units based on the number of evaps they have.
"Honey, can't all of that ugly stuff be installed outside?" This mini-split madness has got to stop. U have to hang those ugly things on the wall, pass ugly tubing thru the wall to an ugly compressor. I don't c any advantage over window units.

Do these moms, now a days, not clean their houses? I know she has kids, but really? Pickup after them or better yet, TEACH them to put away their toys each night. Looked like a bomb went off in there !!
Three years in you could have gave them a quote to fix it instead and in doing so gave them a better understanding of how they have been wronged. I would have been insulted by your delivery and even wandered if you were upset that this system was DIY installed maybe, and no money could be made here cuz there are more bad service contractors there there are competent capable contractors and finding one that will show up,call u back, not charge insane amount of money is something that has been lost along time ago. So the point is how do you think you would stand out among so many imposters and create a clientele list that you could grow into loyal customers and endless work translates to solid money and free advertising. I wish I could tell you the stories I have of contractors it is amusing at best. People that have broken stuff are already bummed trust me, they want the problems fixed and to have waited that long and suffered and get the hard truth that a lawsuit and more contractors before they can get cool air in bed is hard enough to swallow. Just my opinion. I think you should have said I can fix it but it means I have to redo it are you prepared for that. And let them decide while they enjoy cold air pursuing the bad guy install.

I would have done the same you gave your honest professional opinionyou let the customer handle it maybe he’ll call you back to correct it
Mike that looked like a relatively new installation .
Exactly. What's done is done. Keep the water out and fix the leak.
That was one of the most disgusting installations I've seen been in the business for 20 years wow
I don't know what was worse? The HVAC job or that maintenance in that home🤣😂
Mikey pipes, do not shit on the "Friend"...some people pay their Friends less...I have installed lots of these and you are right about those BDBs, they have to be inside, but that said, those things would still work great if had made sure his joints were tight
Looks like a toy factory exploded in there 😳
Yep parents need to teach their kids to clean up. I gave my kids a choice to clean up their own or Dad does...only takes a couple times watching Dad put toys in the trash can before they get the idea real quick. Of course it was only the McDonald's toys getting tossed...but they just seen toys going in the trash never to be seen again. My kids always learned to obey and be honest cuz Dad always knows. Mom, Grandma's and aunts...oh god they spoiled them kids and had problems
Your honesty with this sh-t show is to be commented Mikey pipes! The only thing that you left out was an estimate to make that right for the customer because that so called friend may not have the knowledge to correct this fiasco and in the settlement of this disaster Mikey pipes may be called on to rectify this installation! Have a great and awesome time in Puerto Rico Mikey pipes! Remember NO SMOKING Mikey pipes!!
I’ve installed Mitsubishi branch box system absolutely needs to be done by the book or you’ll have problems.
Mitsubishi systems are amazing, but now they are screwing around with Frame to get their distribution network amped up, but for now I'm hitting pretty hard with the Fujitsu systems, they each have something the other doesn't, bit Mitsubishi wins with a 10 and Fujitsu is a 9.5
Welcome to my Beautiful Puerto Rico. Have a nice vacations
Somebody thought putting indoor equipment outside you say...here in md...techs put indoor condensing units outside all the time, cause its cheaper. But you mikey know why they do it...this was a inexcusable install and they did their friend a disservice!!! Id tell the installer he owes me money!!!! And have ol MP do the job!!!
Just when we think we've seen it all huh Mikey? LoL!
The home owner would be better off getting you to quote on a proper aircon /heat system. Their marriage might last longer if hubby can return to the bedroom....😂
It might be a good thing he doesn't sleep with her, they'll end up with more kids...
Bout the only thing I would say is a custom sheetmetal enclosure with seals and a latched door. Probably the flare fittings, always use Nylog good stuff. Enjoy your vacation brother
Mikey Pipes communicating with the aliens with his head antenna! You're 💯% with the you're diagnosis! Have a great vacation in PR!
Mikey distribution box inside not out the end of your video I’m sure it was an accident you said the box needs to be outside I’m sure you meant inside 😁I agree with all the job you do not want to take unless rectified
Bet the compressor enjoyed a short life…
The old saying goes, “THATS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GET AMATEURS AROUND THE EQUIPMENT”😂🤣👍
Got love DIY hack job that end up being costly expensive lesson for the owners. Some shouldn't be any where near power tools or electrical for that matter
I had a friend help with mine, but, he's certified A/C Tech.
I've helped him move five times, they was his way to return the favor.
I'm at the end of the video....
What a nasty setup.
Yep I wouldn’t have touched it either. You touch it and she’s yours. No thanks, good call on that Mike and also not charging her for the call 👍
@@PipeDoctor The way you handled it, you may very well be the first they call.
I've never seen anything like that before. I've put those type units in before and when we had more then one indoor unit they all hooked up right at the unit outside and didn't have all the pipes going to some junction boxes. That looked like a nightmare. I wouldn't have touched it either.
Always nice job!!!
Nice keepin it real half assed
That’s right you tell them Mikey Pipes!
It's going to be a long 5 days without a video from you. I will miss you but you deserve a vacation. Is DanielSon gonna be putting a video out in your absence??
Good call like i all ways say if you don’t know what you are doing don’t stick your hand in it
Only Mikeys friends are allowed to have a friend to do installs for them lol
The only thing I noticed is that you keep firing questions lol I’d try to slow it down a little
Lol Mike pipes won’t care I wasn’t trying say it in a bad way hahaha
I think that just might be a regional/yankee thing
That hour that you “ate” just scored you a customer who will want a job done right the SECOND time😂👍
Once again friends of friends keeping the pockets lined.
Give them a bid for mount that chit show in NEMA 4 or IP 65 enclosures?
When should you add a branch box?
I did mine myself but I did have a friend that does HVAC check it out first
That was a total shit show of a dumpster fire. People try to save money and end up spending more to correct the shitty install. Nice not charging them for the call. They'll remember that and call you in the future. Have a great time in P.R. It'll give you a chance to take a break and recharge. Take care and travel safe.
I bet they just keep adding refrigerant.
100 say that Universe tech was texting and just drove into the back of that truck.
Probably could have fixed it for the next decade by finding the leaky joint in that circuit though…
Actually it’s probably the distribution box that’s the problem because the other circuit wouldn’t work if the refrigerant was low right?
That house needs a Bosch system...
and earpliugs with a non stop barking dog
So-called professional installed beyond engineered.
good call, I wouldn't have touched that thing with even the antenna that was above you in the beginning of the video. hahahaha I felt sorry for her and the kids that have to live in a warm house like that. I'm sure they will end up calling you for a re-install.
Bet you’ll see her in H.D., Lowe’s , P.C. Richards or Best Buy getting a couple of window units to get by.
"Honey, can't all of that ugly stuff be installed outside?"
This mini-split madness has got to stop. U have to hang those ugly things on the wall, pass ugly tubing thru the wall to an ugly compressor. I don't c any advantage over window units.
Stuff on the floor. Just kick it.
installation not to dos I see, good call and very good call on not just charging the system and informing the client on the problems and why your company won't service it I think
Mikey Pipes stand up guy
Would of done the same thing. Once you touch it you own it.
If they do rip it out they’ll probably give you the job.
1:47 - At least show us her dumper!! I don't need to see it though, she looks expensive... What the hell is a transfer station for??
I did learn a LOT all jokes aside.
Sometimes it's best to not work on it.
The wife was hot 🥵 before and after Mikey pips left 😂
