  • Higher, stronger, more robust: crane builders outperform with superlatives. Loads are getting heavier and have to be lifted to hard-to-reach places. One of the largest crane companies in Germany is the Knaack Krane company in Hamburg. The company currently has around 60 different cranes in stock, the largest of which can lift up to 750 tons. It is a long way through planning and assembly until the machine is used for the first time - the report accompanies the creation of a mega crane.

As a 45 year retired crane operator, today’s crane technology is amazing, the eighth wonder of the world compared to what I started out on. Although I have run only a 300 ton rig, only an experienced crane operator can appreciate the capabilities of today’s machines and the people responsible for the operation of them.

"Bolt" = Pin. "Bolt Extractor" = Pin Jack. Bolts are fasteners and are threaded.

    • @Guds777
      @Guds777 4 года назад +1

      Definition of bolt
      1a: a lightning stroke
      also : THUNDERBOLT
b: a shaft or missile designed to be shot from a crossbow or catapult
especially : a short stout usually blunt-headed arrow
2a: a wood or metal bar or rod used to fasten a door
b: the part of a lock that is shot or withdrawn by the key
3: a metal rod or pin for fastening objects together that usually has a head at one end and a screw thread at the other and is secured by a nut
4: a roll of cloth or wallpaper of specified length
5: a metal cylinder that drives the cartridge into the chamber of a firearm, locks the breech, and usually contains the firing pin and extractor
6a: a block of timber to be sawed or cut
b: a short round section of a log
So NO. A bolt does not necessarily needs to be threaded...

The crane tipping over at 1:13 might have been the one in South America which tipped over because the slave driver didn't want to waste time laying down wooden mats which the crane was supposed to spread the weight of the crane on. The log in the computer was disconnected. Like a black box in a plane ,it can be analyzed to see if the crane was overloaded.
No I was wrong. It's in Italy. 27:23 they show it again. But it seems like they overrode the computer. When the computer detects something outside of the crane's operating parameters it would only allow the crane to lower the load.

considering that the new 5-axle all-terrain mobile crane (Demag/Grove 550XLD_ which we just recently delivered from Massachusetts to Newfoundland & Labrador had a customs invoice value of ,U$ 1,350,000, it wouldn't surprise me that this Liebherr Crawler crane checks-in at about 3 Mio Euros (and the small Tadano probably cost about 500.000 Euros when new. That explains the hourly rates these crane-operators charge these days (in Canada a mid-size mobile crane operator charges about C$1,500/hr (calculated from/to the operator's home-terminal)

We got a Brand New National Boom Truck on the Job and the Operator pulled the out Riggers UP while the BOOM was still Extended on the side of the Truck.....YEA THE OPERATOR IS NOW KNOWN AS FLIPPER....FLIPPER WAS FIRED IMMEDIATELY.

I like Liebherr better than Manitowoc/Grove/National/Potain anyway, and I prefer all terrain mobile cranes rather that truck mounted mobile cranes/"Boom trucks", but use whatever kind of crane suits your application.
Also, that sounds like an incompetent operator! (Obviously) How much did the crane cost? (Besides way too much!)

37:00 Anyone ever heard of a camera that is mounted at the top of the boom and directed by the crane operator to assist in giving first hand information where otherwise the operator can't see? Really???

yep...and as soon as the weather turns sour (snow, sleet, freezing rain etc) you see dick f**k all on the camera monitor. Much better to stick to verbal commands via radio.

If I had to order a super expensive mega crane. I'd have it painted in some strange colour. Like extremely offensive pink, or bright neon green. Just to annoy people.

Mr. Narrator you have it all wrong! Those parts of the crane are called; the jibs; the pullies; and pins; not bolts, or ‘so called’ anything else, if you don’t know the name ask someone who does know it
