    So thankful for this video! I couldn't find anyone else who showed the process of actually removing the silly thing, which was the hardest part. I never would have figured out that you just have to bend the plastic that far to get it loose. I was able to fix my intermittent radio and windows for free which was super satisfying.

      yes that is awsome. I hope to have that luck with mine. the only thing that works on my van is the engine. everything else is dead. I think it is easier to rmove my engine then to take this god awful BCM out! Chrysler sure went to alot of trouble to prevent owners from repairing their own cars. I hope those engineers rot in hell! I think i will have to buy a remote snake camera to find all the damn bolts holding this damn silly thing in! How did you ever expose the unit like that? I removed the knee block metal plate and anything else I could remove, and still cant see the top of it. but my van is a 98 voyager so maybe that is why?

    Just did this tonight. Took longer to pull the damn thing out then it did to figure out my soldering iron was shot, drive to the store, get a new soldering iron and solder, do the job, clean up, and retape the box. Seriously though, great video and info.

  • @mrkattm
    @mrkattm 2 года назад +1

    Soldering not being one of your strong suits was an understatement. I know it is an old video but for those looking for info the proper way to solder is to flood the joint with flux, apply heat to the joint with the proper soldering iron ( not a torch, not a gun but but rather a 40 or 60 watt pencil) then apply the solder to the joint once it is molten. Never carry solder to the joint with the iron.

    Nice work. Only thing I would suggest is using a solder sucker and removing their original lead-free solder before adding quality leaded. Stuff is terrible for heavier, unsupported components like those relays... 👍

    • @quantumenergy3334
      @quantumenergy3334 2 года назад

      As a former electrical/mechanical technician in the electronics industry and former Master Trainer that certified companies employees to IPC standards for soldering and cable harness building, you are 100% correct! Lead Free is more brittle and prone to tin whiskers. A couple of the downside to lead free.
      Only class 3 medical, aerospace and military applications allow the use of leaded solder. But when using lead free there are mitigations that can be used to protect lead free joints but most class 2 & class 1 products don’t often use them.

      yes Ive had that too with my instrument cluster. It is because of poor design and expecting a solder joint to support heavy loads
      and with all the pulling pushing on a connector on a board like that, it cracks the solder joint over again. a properly made board will have screws to mount that connector and the solder joints just make a complete electrical path to the circuit not support the connector

    I am restoring a 66 Cyclone to drive I am sick of all the BS in these new cars. Way to much useless stuff in these new cars. The simpler the better.
