Note the gearbox halves on the re-release Hot Shot cars have a difference to the vintage ones. The recesses for the output drive bearings are deeper, as the gearbox joints are secured with thicker E clips on the newer cars rather than the thin C clip. If you use rere plastics on an original then the diffs won't be held together unless you use shims.
Rere Hotshot uses the original Hotshot 2 top chassis and the Hotshot roll cage is the same on the Hotshot II the only parts that are a real problem is the red shocks as the colour is unique to the Hotshot and not the same as the Super Sabre red, the front hubs were also a different design on the Hotshot II but they might of been used on rere Hotshot or Super Sabre, that's something to check. Hope this helps Gavin.
Decided to buy a Vintage Tamiya Hotshot 2 instead of the Blockhead about a month ago off EBay.Does need a lot of work.Plastic parts like the chassis, roll cage, arms, gearbox cases are available on EBay.A lot of people would of liked Tamiya to ReRe the original.
The design never ages! It looked perfectly modern retro back in the 80's & it still looks modern retro now. The fantastic memories just keep on coming. They still feel as expensive now as they did originally too! But disposable income is a little higher now than when I was at school...... You definitely buy a Tamiya with your heart, not your head!
Verry good, i was hoping for that detailed look inside. Good they upgraded the propshaft, verry nice! The seperate driver is surely a material which is easier to paint than the driver molded in the original chassis, so overall some good changes eaven if they change the look.
Really easy to covert. Take re re hotshot, change rear and front end to boomerang and paint any blue parts red, use re re hotshot sway bar, use new blockhead underguard, source red shocks or rit dye yellow dampers. Re re hotshot wheels. Repro.body from penguin. Job done
Should be able to use the rere Hotshot 2007 for the top deck, roll cage, red parts and wheels. So should be OK to covert to a std Hotshot but would much prefer Tamiya just to release it and I envisage they will towards Christmas I bet!! Also I hear the Falcon is coming this year way hay!!
Hi gavin, Blockhead motors actually have an official website they sell motor stickers in diffrent colours if you wanted one for the wild one, also do loads of of Blockhead themed stuff might be worth a look
I actually hope they never return to Tamiya ESC’s. The Hobbywing/Carson is a much better value. I know the Tamiya can run brushless but they don’t have lipo cutoff which is silly.
Yep tamiya ones suck no lipo cut off on the tble 02 and the tble 04 is just junk .every one I’ve had ,which is about 4 of them ,would never go back into brushed mode after it had been put into brushless if you wanted to run brushed in certain rigs .my sand scorcher I got a Xmas has the Carson dragster esc in it it works great …
I know your big on f1 could you tell me what’s a good motor esc comb for a Schumacher icon 2 . This is my first f1 build and I have know idea what to use. Thanks and I enjoy all your videos
Aren't most of the differing parts you mention available from the super hotshot rere ? I would have thought quite easy to make it very very close to an original hotshot2 apart from body and red shocks (if using parts from a doner super hotshot)
Rims from the Boomer. Red parts from the HotShot rere as well as the top chassis and roll cage. Body from Team Blue Grove and decals from MCI. This will get you close but it will cost you. If you want to get closer, the prop shaft from the HS as well and hunt around for some vintage driveshafts.
The thing I like about this is that my first RC car ever was a Nikko panther and this version of the hotshot looks like a Nikko panther on steroids or maybe a Nikko panther for the more serious enthusiast. Either way it gives me nostalgic feelings which for once are nothing to to with tamiya
Mine has just been delivered looking forward to having a good look through the kit also could you recommend a budget transmitter with the ability to store several models saves my boy buying another transmitter top video as usual cheers gavin
Radiolink RC6GS V3 I have used two of these and for the money its packed with features. A bit on the ugly side but apart from that, a total win. Also the receivers are a bargain and you have a full range of them.
Good video👍 I think your right its probably not viable to change it to a hotshot 2 but if you don't put the metal plates one on the back and the other one on the front underneath what would be the windscreen although the original hotshot cadge is rounded at the back and the blockhead hotshot is more squared off it still fits I've done it the blockhead caged looks too goofy!
Hotshot rear uprights won’t fit the HS2. The hotshot ones are straight as the gaps in top and bottom wishbone are in line. Boomerang/bigwig rear wishbones are used on the HS2 and gaps are not in line so uprights are different and offset top to bottom. If you want red rear uprights for the blockhead you can only use super sabre or og HS2 ones. Bigwig and boomerang are same in blue
I've waited a couple of years for a re release of the Boomerang, I can wait for the Hotshot 2, and the rest of the hotshot/ boomerang line. This kit is a fun take on an older buggy, but it's not for me.
I love this but I think Tamiya is overdoing the blockhead thing. And damnit they need to bring us the falcon we all want 😁they probably will but it’ll be a blockhead too lol
Ha ha can you imagine the outcry if Tamiya did a Blockhead Falcon instead of an original re-re, the factory would be burnt down there would be riots Etc ;)
yeah, I will skipping this and hoping the original comes out later this year. Although my hopes are slightly deflated after seeing major changes done to this one. Fingers crossed!!
Why wouldn't Tamiya just re re the Hotshot 2? More than ever Tamiya keeps giving us what we DON'T want rather than what we DO want. Time to say goodbye to Tamiya???? Great video Gavin, I absolutely love how thorough you are and your presentation is brilliant. Cheers!
If they'd just rereleased the standard HS2 I wouldn't have bought it, already got one. Bought this one because the changes make it interesting, and there's been plenty of demand so you can't say this wasn't wanted 🤷♂️
Why fake an old one? Okey, okey, they even make fake repro resistors and then change direction with all the little upgrades. I would screw on a lot of tiny plastic turtles, before using those. Tamiya, capable of making very detailed plastic models and doing kind of scale RC cars, very often bodge them by using wrongly brightly colored plastic parts on their chassis, so that they instead get the famous toy look, - what they are not! LOL. In general. I like the changes they have made. And to have a kind of finished body to get started is a treat. (The iMac came in Bondi Blue first, before all the other colors of the rainbow 8)) I would buy one or two more clear bodies and drivers, to get creative. 'We' want to see your race training, tuning and improving, alter Stubenhocker!
I was wondering if it's a sport tuned in disguise? The wiring used is the same as a sport tuned. When you look through the parts listing in the manual, it states that the motor isn't available and gives the part number for the standard silver can. Of course, it could just be a label and the sport tuned wiring to make it look like it's special.
@@Lloyd0705 The Tamico unboxing video explained that it's a standard silver can with a Blockhead decal and red/black wires instead of green/yellow to match the original Hot Shot II motor and box art.
Gav re re hotshot rwar hubcarriers are different and don't fit. Boomerang ones for but need to be painted red. Supershot cage is same as hotshot 2. Yellow shocks can be rit dyed. Undertray is same as original hotshot 2. Top deck looks different. HS2 Thassos and top deck is exactly the same as re re HS
I think if Tamiya had just let Jun Watanabe do his own colour choice it would be have been a better move, vs just sticking with the same livery as the Blockhead Wild One. Especially as Jun normally uses loads of different colours in each build he does.

Hi Gavin, the vintage hotshot 2 shares the same upper cbassis and roll cage parts with the rere hotshot. Cheers and happy building.
I absolutely love the look of this, my favourite version of the hot shot family, I like that they have made a couple of improvements as well

First time I've watched an unboxing video of a kit I've already got! Original sitting on the table too 😎

They still feel as expensive now as they did originally too! But disposable income is a little higher now than when I was at school...... You definitely buy a Tamiya with your heart, not your head!
You know you can use the TT02 shaft & the Hotshot propeller joints.!! You can use these on your Boomerang as well.!!
That’s good to know 👍🏻
Nice one Gav, Mine just arrived also,Gona sit next to my mint original hotshot 2 in black of course
Damn Tamiya and their bushes!!!
Looking forward to build vid
Just received mine can’t wait to build it need some bearings any suggestions?

Well thank's Gavin. You convinced me. It cost me again Tamika tokins😁
It is on his way to the others of the Hotshot family
Sorry about that.
The roll cage tree has a Faux MSC resistor. Check video at 2:26mins
I’ve just fitted a real one lol. Not connected or anything but it’s a real resistor lol
Personally I really like this as it looks very scale like which is the sort of thing that catches my eye, mines due to arrive next week. Great video 👍
Gav original HS2 was literally a supersabre with hotshot chassis and unique undertray
Nice video!
Hi gavin, Blockhead motors actually have an official website they sell motor stickers in diffrent colours if you wanted one for the wild one, also do loads of of Blockhead themed stuff might be worth a look

Don’t go nuts with the KV as these are light, RWD and smooth. HobbyWing combo would be a solid choice

Agreed I had the Sears version here in America call the Lobo. Probably where the idea came from for Nikko.

@RCKicks perfect thanks buddy 👍
Hi Gavin, purely based on aesthetics, what is you all time favourite Tamiya R/C vehicle?
Gav, super hotshot chassis is the same as hs2
Driv3shafts are the same as boomerang..as are the wheels👍
The hard part is the Red cva's🤔
Brake fluid would make short work of taking the paint off the body if you wanted a colour change…It doesn’t damage the polycarbonate plastic
If they are metalplated, try getting the coating of with hydrochloric acid. Would be funny if it would be red underneath.
As good as it looks, i would rather an original rere. This could be a teaser for it ?
Which i will never be able to get in the 🇺🇸 lol great review though

Awesome as always! Booo I was hoping that the chrome was actual metal hubs.
Love the Wild One BHM but I dont like this BHM livery on the Hot Shot at all... They could have at least done a different set of colours.
I love this but I think Tamiya is overdoing the blockhead thing. And damnit they need to bring us the falcon we all want 😁they probably will but it’ll be a blockhead too lol

Yes it feels like enough has been changed that a stock HS2 feels less lightly. :(
Love the car but shame it looks like it doesent come with ball bearings

@@johnhill2075 I was referring to OTHER kits as well, and I can say whatever I want.
I like the upgrades they included. Some purists won't like it, but those purists don't like this kit to begin with, so..
True

dont like the higher roof it destroys the hs2 look
I wonder if in 40yrs time adults are buying vintage WLtoy buggys off ebay for 1000's of dollars and saying "remember the good ole days" LOL
Some I’m sure, how many 🤷🏻♀️
no reason to get this after getting the wild one
I think if Tamiya had just let Jun Watanabe do his own colour choice it would be have been a better move, vs just sticking with the same livery as the Blockhead Wild One. Especially as Jun normally uses loads of different colours in each build he does.
Tamiya really need to stop with the plastic bushes and start including metal bearings . ..
Tamiya probably know how many cars go on shelves... so it doesn't matter! Want to run it, bearings are cheap
