    Note:
    1. Station names changes are not reflected on the map. They are always shown as the current names.
    2. Temporary station closures (e.g. Vorobyovy Gory closure and reopening after renovation) are not mentioned.
    3. Opening and extensions are grouped as one event for each year (i.e. if a line extended from A → B, and B → C on the same year, it will be shown as it extended from A→C)
    4. Transfer stations are counted multiple times for each line including cross-platform interchanges (exception of through service of Line 8A to Savyolovskaya)

Its important to note that one of the biggest driving forces politically behind the metro, especially after WW2, was civil defense. One of the biggest reasons why almost the entire network is underground is specifically so that the transport system can be used as a bomb shelter for the city, that can then transport the city officials and general public out of the city. This is why you'll notice very weird decisions such as the rerouting of the blue line in 1953 - the old alignment involved crossing over the Moscow River on an above ground bridge, so they rebuilt that section of the line as deep bore. Eventually they ended up reusing the shallower alignment for Line 4 anyway but still. A similar case exists at Vorobyovy Gory Station. The current station exists above the Moscow River on a massive bridge, however there is an alternate deep bored route that exists in the case of an invasion or air raid that trains can use to transport people safely across the river and into the suburbs.
As a bonus, every underground station, including the ones built today, actually have blast proof doors present at every entrance to the stations in case of a bombing raid, where they can be used as bomb shelters.

Those stations opened in 1943 - 45 has been almost completed in pre-war years. They just required some finishing. And both of them are in very important strategic industrial zones (electrical and automotive factories). So Moscow government decided it is necessary to improve both transportation for workers and civil defense (because metro stations are also bomb shelters).

That's a valid point since MCC and MCD share similar characteristics. The MCC is designated with number 14 of the Moscow Metro system while MCD is a separate system with its own line numbers. MCD is not shown in this video since I usually exclude commuter rails but I didn't exclude MCC because then it would leave a gap between line 13 and 15.

    • @Xumgat
      @Xumgat 2 года назад +16

@@MetroLiner This is an interesting numbering incident, caused by the fact that the MCC and the MCD are operating by different companies (the MCC operating by Moscow Metro and the High-Speed Communications Directorate, and the MCD is operating by Central Suburban Passenger Company), but in fact it is all a single network of city electric trains (not the metro).

    a) 12 line was Л1 (L1) from opening and until 2014 where it was renamed in line № 12.
    b) Not all MCC (14 line) stations were opened for passangers with start of the line. For example Sokolinaya Gora and Dubrovka were opened 11 october 2016, Koptevo - 1 november 2016, Zorge - 4 november 2016 and Panfilovskaya - 8 november 2016.
    c) Station Bulvar Rokossovskogo was Ulitsa Podbielskogo until 8 july 2014.
    d) There were many station and line renames in 1990-2000.

3:22 you have a mistake: Vodny Stadion station is actually located 1 km more far to north than it is shown in your map. So you have a great video, it is really comfortable to see all lines shown on the current map of the city, it is the side where you are better the MetroCucumber. But, unfortunatly, this kind of videos contains many mistakes in production, so have a luck in fixing it! UPD: also you have a mistake on 4:04 (Kakhovskaya and Varshavskaya are changed themselves) and at 4:16 (Kitay-gorod was opened in 1971, not 1970) UPD2: and also 4:27 - this plot of orange line was opened in 1972 UPD3: on 12:54 the Big Circle line was opened in February 2018 and the Savyolovskaya station was opened on 30 december 2018, so you should split these plots. UPD3: on 14:18 the "Horoshovskaya" - "Mnyovniki" plot was opened in april 2021 and "Mnyovniki" - "Kakhovskaya" in december 2021. You should also split them. Also you have strange tonnels on blue (3) line near Park Pobedy station, I think you should fix it. And also, in Moscow metro there was many of station closings for repairing, but they do not matter excepting Vorobyovy Gory station, which had been reconstructing from 1983 to 2002 and during the reconstruction the old station and bridge were deleted and the new was built. So you should add this moment to the video.

Why stations have their new names? As examples: Lybanka station called Dzerjinskaja since 1935 for 1990, and Semenovskaja called Stalinskaja since 1944 for 1961

    • @user-zb7ke5jw9k

Because the majority of stations were built in USSR, some of them got "communistic" names (for example, Dzerjinsky was revolutionary). After USSR collapsed some of them was named more neutral, according to historical toponyms

The Arbat double line is strange and interesting. I understand that after the experiences of the aerial bombing they replaced the important central section of the route instead of the "unter strassen bahn" with a solidly built stamped subway, but after a few years this original closed section was connected to a newly opened secondary non-diametral surface line, similar to the suburban railway, which over the years turned and extended to the northwest. And the stamped line, according to the original plans from the 50s/60s, which I saw on the net, I think it was originally planned to be extended roughly in the direction of today's route 08ᴬ Solncevska, if I'm not mistaken?
But instead, from the 90s and 00s, it continued - in the form of an underground high-speed railway with almost no stops - to copy the route of the surface line, and after climbing up towards the end of the route, it took over the last few stations from the surface line. Well, it's interesting. Thanks for the video.

Yes. Light blue and dark blue lines running almost parallel in the center still cause confusion among tourists. I was asked a couple of times: "why are there 2 Smolenskaya stations and 2 Arbatskaya stations in almost the same place? And why is there no transfer between them?"

    • @JdMsk

In the reality the first, "shallow", temporary closed line was not constructed under the street (Arbat) but mostly under the resident yards. As some sections of the Circle line in London.
