      I've been to your city and St. Peterburg in September 2014 and I love it. I keep telling to my friends to go and visit because it's a place I would go back again. At that time I didn't see any transliteration in metro system and in the most part of the city of Moscow but it wasn't a problem for me. My only regret was not speak a little more russian than the obvious to interact better with you guys. My visit worth every penny.

    During my time here as a student some years ago, I've probably only had to call a taxi like 5 times. The Metro really was my best friend whenever I needed to go anywhere. The other modes of public transit were also pretty decently integrated, so bus stops and trams etc. were also never too far away from a metro station.

    Not only Moscow Underground but the trams, buses on the ground work precisely. The taxi network is very efficient too. 99% of Moscow resident are very hard working. I used all forms of travel in the city when i was there last year. One thing which missed in the documentary that the train announcement inside when station is approaching is bilingual in Russian and English. As soon as you deboard a train, the signage below are also having english names of the place in english scripts. In just one hour, i got used to this efficient metro system. Only thing was between stations, you have to walk a lot. Another thing was discipline in the escalator and boarding and deboarding into trains. I liked the city. Well no one talks english and is good other wise Russians would have taken every job on earth.

There are many thematic trains in Moscow Metro dedicated to all sorts of historical and cultural events, exhibitions, places of interest, etc. This one is apparently called "Future Science", is a part of UK-Russia Year of Science and Education 2017, and features famous British and Russian scientists and inventors that moved the world forward in some way or another. I also really like the fact that you showed the most modern trains that we have here, they are indeed really cool, comfortable, and functional. I actually had an accident in the Metro, I was riding the train and somehow my earring fell off and I lost it.. or so I though. Two days later I called into the 'lost things' of the Metro, told them which line that I was riding and they actually had my earring already found and I had it back :)

      And you know, what?
      A immediately came back and bothered all the metro-workers around to help me.
      They gave me some kind of telescopic grab-stick so I can pick up my wide-spread stuff between the train-arrivals!
      I managed this metro-fishing quite well exclude some things, that rolled too far.
      And then, I had literally to lay down on the floor, 2 policemen hold my legs and i stretched as far, as my whole body can to reach the most distant things, hah!
      The whole scene was hilarious as hell, and I get my pants cracked, but have gathered all the spread belongings.

    • @drunklorry3406
      @drunklorry3406 Год назад

      It actually depends on the line. 90 sec is a Soviet standard still used. Actually, it can even be faster than 90 secs during rush hours, I often catch intervals up to just 40 secs when I travel back from my university siring the evening rush hour. In the morning though, on Sokolnicheskaya line, another train comes just 15 secs after the other left, but it stops by on the station forboarding purposes. One of them comes full since it travels from the very south part of the line, the other one comes completely empty since Salarievo station is the station where overcrowding begins on Sockolnicheskaya line, so they send an empty train that doesn't take passengers untill that station right next to the other train. The busiest station of this line is, of course, Yugo-Zapadnaya, because there are hella lot of Universities located, but on Salarievo, the train stops by for longer since that's where the boarding truly begins

      It's not that big if you think that for example the Munich metro has 100 stations for about 1.5 million inhabitants, while Moscow only has 269 for about 12 million (thank you Ivan) residents. However only the amount of stations isn't a measurement of magnificentness of a metro network - for example the Moscow metro has wider platforms and a higher frequency of trains than the Munich one

      @@victornderu143 Well Paris is a whole different story, it is very old and the residents wanted to get rid of the trams in favour of the metro. The network is more than great for only 2 million residents. The problems of the metro are the aging rolling stock (some are from the 50s), the dirty air due to the air-filled tires of the trains (which can also be considered as an advantage due to the smoother ride) and many VERY dirty stations. Most problems are the result of limited funding for the system - which kind of could be expected for a city of this size featuring such an extensive network. Paris metro definitely has the potential of being a world-class metro system, if funding for the maintaining costs increases.
      For comparison to Paris you could take Hamburg, whose metro only has 93 stations for s similar city population. And many people think that this is not enough. And Hamburgs system is old as well and they got rid of their trams as well - which leaves the city at a lower-class network.

    I've never had the pleasure to be on the Moskow metro, but I've stayed in St Petersburg for a month as an international student. If anyone wants a scale of how deep the metro there is, well, for most of the stations, you would spend more time on the escalators getting down than waiting for the train. And you could safely skip a train and wait for the next(I've seen that there are some newer stations, mostly towards the end of the lines, that have a much shallower depth, maybe due to economic reasons)

      @@johndavidson4127 In Switzerland the delays for intercity trains are quite common on a daily basis. The light metro versions in the Swiss cities, or trams, run more reliably. But still, the short intervals between the trains/trams, like in Moscow metro are a dream. This, of course, have to take into the account, that the transportation system in Switzerland is not underground, except for transit tunnels, thus more susceptible to the external factors, causing delays. The only European metro system, that is close in its efficiency, elegancy and cleanliness to Moscow metro is in Athens. It is very small, and is not comparable in scale, but for such a small system Greeks made it almost as perfect, as in Moscow. Switzerland is amazing for it's mountain trains and funiculairs, that is for sure. There are small metros at high altitude ski stations, entirely built in the mountains, with very steep angles. So - no uniform comparison could be made. Each country has it's best in something, then it comes to transport. I do not know, if it helps to maintain the stereotypes with these details, though :-).

    There was a thing with Line 5's Komsomolskaya station that they didn't explain. One of the escalators to the ground was taken apart for the maintenance. That's why the staff had to close the exit completely - they usually leave one escalator to the ground at this time. Same with the evening rush hour. One escalator is normally available for the entrance, but at that time, they had to route people through Line 1's station.
