    If I was to change over I would be going from an electric immersion (only) as we are currently using electric storage heaters for heating (no gas). So massive saving with a very quick payback time for the likes of people in my position!

    Payback is always interesting to calculate, but there are few things that you calculate pay back on unless it comes to renewables. The key element of the payback for us is what monies need to go to support the appliance once it is installed. In our case, the key benefit of the mixergy setup is the fact it only heats what you need. We have a heat exchanger and not an iHP, so interestingly the tank is only heated to a specific level. Energywise we used to use 34MWh total energy for the household before we updated the heating system, we now use 17MWh in total for the household and we have more square footage (the update was done as part of renovations) and drive more miles in an electric car. From a usage point of view the updates have made a massive difference and the house is nice and warm. Cost wise we have gone from 240 odd a month to around 170 a month (this may be closer to 150 a month once winter has gone), and this is even with the various increases in the price of energy. Having said all of the above, the solar install breaks even this november (7 years), the battery the year after (7 years after install) and to be honest the payback on the rest is 2028 (7 years again). What this comes down to is what monies are needed to run the household for the energy needed, and on that basis solar+heat pump makes sense.

      Yes, our energy bills are very close to zero now, which gives a good amount of security against any price rises. It's a good feeling.

    good update and its true that its not always going to be about how much the pay back time is as if you factor in inflation and higher costs over the actual period of time that you use the systems it just gains you additional savings. obviously there is the initial cost but dont talk about payback time for when they do a new kitchen or have their driveway done they just do it as they like how it looks ... just my two cents

      @TimAndKatsGreenWalk  26 дней назад +1

      Indeed. I made this (and the previous) video because I know people will ask about it. Personally I got the iHP to save energy, simple as that. But then I'm fortunate that we could afford to do so.

    I ordered one of these in April waited for the r290 version . Patiently, they sent r134a tank I questioned it got a load of waffle from mixergy in the end they admitted that the r290 unit was not built even though they where advertised as r290.asked if they could send the head unit when it was made but was told the head units where NOT interchangeable funny they advertise this on there adverts. Sent it back saved over a grand on putting a daikin m tank in I doubt the mixergy would save me that money the long run . Expensive product bad service from them with there porky pies .

      Oh dear, that's not great. I think the change to R290 happened quite late in the development so I guess some things changed that meant they weren't compatible.

    There are of course so many variations of what you might or might not replace that you’ll never get a version that covers everyone…
    However, I’d argue that if people are going to replace their gas boiler then the comparison should be of the equivalent functions of the gas boiler alone, i.e. compare only the gas boiler replacement cost (most people won’t change the hot water cylinder if they are replacing the gas boiler) to AAHP (or AWHP) + iHP. That’s effectively what you did, just in two steps.
    You made a comment about being able to just replace the heat pump part of the iHP separately from the hot water tank. Do Mixergy publicly commit that this will always be available and that any future iHP’s will be backwards compatible with the current iHP tanks? I’d fear that in 10 years time there will be a future iHP product that won’t necessarily be compatible with the current. Who knows. Its a risk

    • @TimAndKatsGreenWalk
      @TimAndKatsGreenWalk  26 дней назад

      You'd have to ask Mixergy. They literally state that as a benefit in their materials so I'd assume they're confident they can commit to that.

    Interesting, just checked my gas bill - £23 per month for gas ( 4 adults ). I would guess slightly more in Winter due to lower water temp. A HP water cylinder is never going to achieve payback.

      It won't for everyone, and that's fine. It won't for Kat and I either, we knew that was going to be the case, and we're ok with it.

    Part 2c? 😂 Gas boiler needs annual servicing for safety, so has an ongoing cost. iHP probably doesn't need servicing aside from replacing (assuming it has one), the sacrificial anode rod.
