Necrochasm is back! This time around it brings a play loop that is brutal. In this video I talk about overall PvE and Pvp usage as well as a hidden interaction that takes it over the top as a primary "kinetic"weapon. This will stick around and it's addictingly fun to use.

Amplified only makes you reload faster on hunter with the aspect flow state, otherwise it’s just movement speed + handling

Considering that Necro was an arc weapon in D1 I think it's intended. Sort of like Firefly being solar on Ace of Spades.
Maybe but maybe not. Quicksilver alternate fire was randomly arc before they fixed it as well.
That was different because Quicksilver was the Lightfall bonus. So it was a given it was going to be Strand.
Necro has the history. Plus Cursed Thrall explosions are Arc damage. Hence the Firefly comparison . Firefly does solar damage.
So it seems the most likely but who knows lol
@saitomitsurugi18 just saying it wouldn't be the first time an exotic randomly had an element to it by mistake. I hope you're right, but they've been very careful about no elements in the kinetic slot
No I feel that. But I feel they may do way with that or at least give kinetics more of a buff lol
@@saitomitsurugi18even still, before lightfall when the rockets were arc damage, bungie took the time to fix it instead of letting it stay as arc damage.
they’ve never let us have a weapon load out that can deal with all three shield types in d2, it’s just not what they intend
I think the reason people think it’s bugged is because Quicksilver Storm also used to do Arc damage. The missile that the preorder version fired was an Arc missile. They patched it later to make it Kinetic, and then with the catalyst it changes to Strand.
But I agree this seems intentional because Cursed Thrall enemies deal Arc damage anyway when they explode on you.

Yeah i believe they fixed the quicksilver rocket especifically due to the catalyst changing it to strand in the future, so they had to fix that .
@@bilbo9730 Agreed. But I was still super bummed. It was so awesome to have a kinetic auto rifle that also fired an elemental shot. I hope that we can get stuff like that in the future.
I think the Eidolon Ally might be a really solid legendary alternative too. Rangefinder is still very nice to have, and perpetual motion makes it a total laser beam. It has the same origin trait as the other raid weapons as well. So if you wanted to run Necrochasm, but need a different exotic, you still have an excellent option, especially for PvP

Yep, I was surprised to see the difference in stability between Necro & Eidolon, because Eidolon already feels like a laser, doesn't even need any more stability. Absolutely slaps in PvP.
@@max73916 go to the sword crota drops after he dies, pick up the quest. get 100 hive kills w husk of the pit, and youll automatically have eidolon put in your inventory
For PvP only because perpetual and rangefinder won't do really good in PvE though
Since you get the pre-upgraded legendary version of Necro they should update the legendary version of Polaris Lance so we can infuse it to current levels too
oh dear god reminds me of the polaris lance questline. not the most tedious but wow
legendary Polaris Lance is actually the only sunset weapon that I kept. It just looks too cool + I actually enjoyed hanging out, discovering secrets etc. on Mars
@@jeavenxx It was bugged for a while- the quest that required perfect fifth kills only counted kills where the burn tick killed combatants, not the primary explosion. Thats what made it truly awful.

The arc aspect really adds some good build utility. And just looks fun tbh. Loved these sights.
Its sadly NOT the first Kinetic/Energy interaction! Ace of Spades and all VOG weapons will give you Firefly, which is coded Solar!
I hope Kinetics get more perks that flirt with subclass verbs. They can be really fun

That's how firefly worked in d1 as well, right? I thought it could do extra damage to wizard shields
while its coded as SOLAR! firefly doesnt count as a solar kill and doesnt even work towards gunpowder gamble!
now i feel like an interesting combo would be chromatic fire, double explosion headshot kills with scorch/blinding/weaken or whatever else and poison, and arc alongside that? sounds like it might be a very powerful combo.
I remember back in d1 during last word meta going into trials with 3 nechrochasms. It was terrible but if you teamshot you could win games it was hilarious 😂
I loooooove this one so much, i do wish the catalyst was a bit more useful, since it auto reloads, and the base reload is already extremely fast, feels like an old mida situation. Personally id love to see something like zen moment or just something that isnt JUST reload speed. Idk, it is FANTASTIC and its one of if not my favorite exotic, it just feels so good.
Itd be so cool if the caty upped the rpm to 900. Imagine a 900 rpm plus desperado lol

@@gambeano Keep in mind that that tend to reserve crazy Catalysts for Weapons that don't have one yet and are lacking in usefulness (see: Trinity Ghoul, Two-Tailed Fox, Quicksilver Storm, etc.). They don't want to intentionally release a Raid Exotic that's ho-hum and the best version of it only be available through it's Catalyst. They'd rather release a "complete" Exotic out the gate, then give it a good Catalyst that doesn't necessarily break the game, and then they can buff/nerf the Weapon itself if necessary (see: Touch of Malice, Vex Mythoclast, Grand Overture, the changes to Leviathan's Breath and Legend of Acrius's Catalysts, etc.).
I'm glad Necrochasm has a chance to shine. I remember getting it with some friends back in year 2 and while it was a bullet hose, it was kinda underwhelming. My love for auto rifles kept me using it, but this looks far better than before.
This thing in the crucible rn reminds of necro and atheons epilogue after ars got a pvp buff in D1 lol its insane and I'm so glad it is bc necro was my favorite gun even when it was trash upon release in D1 just bc of the quest and aesthetic
I do miss the not having to get a precision kill to trigger the explosion in d1 but it's not really a problem here with d2 having way more responsive aim so it's an actual beam now
This is why I wish we could have up to 2 exotic armor pieces on at the same time. I hate having to choose on some builds between dps and survivability. I know more skilled and masochistic players would hate that, but they can choose to not wear a 2nd exotic if they want. I want all the help I can get.

GREAT breakdown CoolGuy, I suffered thru contest mode only to succeed at reset Sunday BUT i would say your video definitely has got me thinking of some sick new builds. It was worth the experience 100 percent

It's a consistent 4 tap on 9 resil or less
It’s pretty interesting that the cursed thrall explosions are arc for necro, since the explosion from origin perk for the rest of the crota weapons counts as kills from the weapon itself (i.e. fang gives death throes on strand with thrall explosion)
Prolly cause necro is kinetic
outlaw is a big letdown for a catalyst when the weapon has 76 base reload and the cursed thrall kills reload the weapon already. a catalyst allowing the desperation timer to get refreshed would be much nicer, right now you have to get another precision/cursed thrall kill after desperation expires to reproc it.
Primary Exotic interactions are creating a very interesting meta
Enemy cursed thralls are arc explosions as well, you can use them to trigger riskrunner, so id be very shocked if it was unintentional
I was one of the few that got lucky enough to get it after contest was over. And you know what? We take those because this weapon is the fun we needed in Destiny 2. Thank you for sharing light on what this weapon is capable of. See y’all in the Crucible!

Necro is so much fun. Managed to get multiple Multikills with the cursed thrall explosion in pvp
That also means that Necrotic Grips would give Necrochasm extra AE due to it being a weapon of Sorrow. Not sure how much it actually will help, but it is an interesting note.
I like outlaw but the fact that cursed thrall explosion refills the mag kind of negates the need for outlaw.
I manage to get Necrochasm earlier today on contest mode ended and I gotta say, after using it this is probably my favorite exotic auto rifle in the entire game (I would have said Vex Mythoclast, but even though it acts like an auto rifle its still classified as a fusion rifle, so I am just going to stick to weapons that solely classifies as an auto rifle.). It synergizes with so many things, especially for warlocks with certain exotic armor (I am a warlock main myself lols.) Definitely was worth the day and a half of sleep loss and suffering.

I tried it in Crucible, and it's fun but there's no help for the dueling kill. I definitely found that quicksilver with the nano rocket dueled better with higher range and stability
Remember, the Arc explosion doesn't benefit from the 40% damage bonus that KINETIC exotics get, as we saw this exact same thing with Quicksilver, so either they leave it, because it would do too much damage as a Kinetic explosion, or they change it and it does massive damage.
40% bonus exotic kinetic damage what in the world are you talking about? that doesn’t sound like a thing. kinetics do like 10-15% more damage over energy

Also ally is great gun if you need to run a different exotic but love nrcros feel
Pretty sure the damage is intended to be coded as Arc because Cursed Thrall (the enemy) explosions are considered Arc damage when they hit you.
I assume the Crota’s End Origin Trait also registers as Arc damage.
Absolutely. It *should* be arc damage. I proc Riskrunner by baiting cursed thrall explosions all the time.
It makes sense that the explosions are arc. If you have riskrunner equipped, incoming thrall melee damage, cursed thrall explosion damage, and wizard blight damage all proc arc conductor.
Actually it's because of the perk Cursed Thrall is why it's dealing Arc damage. If you take the actual Cursed Thrall for instance, when it explodes, it deals Arc damage. So if the perk is Cursed Thrall, we can assume it acts like a Cursed Thrall when the requirements are met to activate the perk. I especially noticed it when I was on an Arc subclass using Spark of Discharge. I was getting tons of Ionic Traces from using Necrochasm and procking the Cursed Thrall perk.
I know it was a mistake but we have anti barrier AR this season not overload
It's the cursed thrall explosion is arc so fits in with anything related to arc synergy
Could actually pair really well with Chromatic fire since its all about precision final blows. Not like it needs more explosions but hey more explosions are still more explosions.
I've been running the legendary one with chromatic with cursed thrall with the two seasonal artifact mods overcharging it and Jesus it's fun.
So close to getting the cheese right after reset. guess i have to do it legit :(

Did they patch the drop for it?
Just get 100 hive kills and run 20 encounters or do triumphs, if you’re trying to get red boarder raid weapons then you’ll get the exotic very easily :)

I have a similar thing going on but with fatebringer. Firefly kills counts as solar damage even though the gun is kinetic. It can double dip siphon mods and work with fragments like tempering or empyrean.
It could be a bit overpowered, but i really think the catalyst should've been something like, "cursed thrall explosion kills can overflow the magazine if it's already full. As long the magazine is overflowed, Desperation won't go down." You get like 10-ish bullets from every collateral, so you won't have necro permanently overflowed so it wouldn't be too broken, but it would DEFINITELY be more fun than outlaw, and feel like it's actually worth getting the catalyst. Genuinely don't think this would affect PvP either.
One thing I'm missing from your video is a test in Master content to evaluate it's worth since GMs are not up yet. Otherwise if it does not compete with Wishender or Quicksilver, it will end up as a cool weapon for low end content.

Like to point out its probably for consistency cursed thrall do arc damage so the gun that causes their explosion doing arc makes sense

Regular enemy cursed Thrall explosions count as arc damage aswell. It triggers that arc smg exotic perk

Cool. Really looking forward to getting this weapon hopefully in the next few weeks. Tried contest but couldn't make it past ir yut due to not have an actual team and LFG being LFG with people just dipping as soon as anything goes wrong.
With the poison spread, necrotic grip combo, does it interact with Strand, the same way Osteo does, therefore making Necro+Necro+Strand a top tier add clear combo?
Chromatic fire with this thing is also absolutely insane
Tommy's Matchbook actually beats this weapon out in TTK when overheated since it gains a 55% boost to damage in PvP meaning a 0.42 second TTK at T0 to T2 resil, and a 0.50 second at the rest for T3 to T10 optimal
But you get one tapped cuz all your shields are gone XO
It would be nice if the catalyst made it so cursed thrall explosions happened without needing a headshot kill it would add onto the outlaw perk and make it even more viable in PVE and PVP content

Arc explosion? Likely a remnant, if not a reference, to the weapon originally being Arc in D1. That said, I'm getting QSS vibes and it might get patched out.

Try it in PvP with Chromatic Fire. It will stack CT explosion with CF explosions to create even more deaths
Man this is crazy. I really wanted it since it was one of my favorite weapons in D1, but I likely won't get it since I don't raid. Looks super fun though
I haven't touched a raid since the Leviathan. I did them religiously in D1. GMs are my bag now even though the loot is crap.
@@cjp8155 I especially don't wanna do GMs since I'm not a fan of constant one shots and taking 2 mags to kill a red bar thrall lol. Destiny 2 end game just isn't fun for me, but that's alright. Plenty else to play

Cursed Thralls deal Arc damage when they explode anyway, so I think it's intended.
the problem I have with Necrochasm is that its perks are a bit conflicting. In one hand you have the subsistence perk, in the other, you need to reload to get the buff in RPM, so what even is the point of refilling the magazine? Besides that, precision kills are a bit funky to get in a 720 RPM archetipe consistently.
in my opinion, sunshot it's straight up better in every single way for PvE
When it auto reloads from an explosion kill that does activate the rpm increase without you needing to manually reload.

It won't stay arc. It's the same thing as the rocket from the exotic strand rifle when it was a pre-order perk.

Just pointing out that necro isn’t the first kinetic weapon with elemental sub-damage. That would be any kinetic with firefly.
Elemental orbs are so annoying whenever you try to take the chalice in Crota or something similar you always pick up a elemental orb instead lol

Dark blights were always arc, ever since they existed. Necro was arc
Outlaw being the catalyst is a letdown considering you can just proc amplified. Sure it’ll help neutral game but come on
With the addition of a 4th weapon of Sorrow, I honestly want to advocate for Necrotic Grip to get the Aeon treatment: Necrotic Grips for hunters, Necrotic Gauntlets for titans and Necrotic Gloves for warlocks. (Warlock version changed to "gloves" and hunters get "grips" simply to be consistent with how all other arms are named for the 3 classes)
They mentioned the fact that strand grapple was originally intended to be a hunter exclusive ability but they opted to give it to all classes sinply because it's too fun to be exclusive. I'd like to use the same argument here as the base functionality of Necrotic Grip as well as how it interacts with the Weapons of Sorrow are too good even when compared to what they are trying to do with the hunter moth arms. Titans and hunters are really missing out on the full potential of those weapons.
On a side note... now that I think about it, Necrotic Grip almost seems like it was made for hunters after they lost the subclass ability to do poison damage with their smoke grenade melee. I wouldn't be surprised if they were designed with that choice in mind as a way to revive that functionality without it being redundant while enabling the option to add poison to other hunter class melees. The fact that all hunter arms are "grips" almost convinces me that this is the case.
Outlaw is not a very good catalyst. If anything Zen moment would have been perfect. Or give it a build up mechanic like Vex. After 5 kills or so it drops a curse thrall ball that you can pick up and throw or shoot.
Yeah, I don't know why he thinks Outlaw is going to be good. Even in his test footage you can see that the reload speed isn't even bad and it runs directly counter to the automatic mag refill the weapon does baseline. It's literally only going to come into play when downing a single enemy and trying to quickly rush to a new target before Desperation falls off, which pretty much makes it a bonus that only the Crucible will get mileage out of.
Maybe that's the point. Who knows.
I know it’s a minor thing but I am so peeled off that it doesn’t have green bullets anymore. And that the explosions are locked behind precision kills now, no explosions from enemies without crits or awkward crits like Minotaurs
The catalyst is pointless to me as well, it already reloads very quickly even without reload mods.
How does Chromatic fire pair with it? On an arc lock for synergy of course
I remember the D1 version was pretty bad up until they gave it a buff just a few weeks before Taken King… and then it was sunset 😢🤣

Fun fact, if you kill a Cursed Thrall using Necrochasm, and you kill it with a precision kill, it will explode twice.

Didn't the rockets from Quicksilver storm also do arc damage originally. They don't no more. I don't have a stake in whether it stays or not but keep that in mind.

Ace has been out there with its solar damage Firefly perk since forever, too. Sometimes I think CG gets too caught up in his narrative to realize he's missing basic information.
