This is an alternative rock band that came out of SF. Linda Perry the singer has wrote songs for Christina Aguerlina, Gwen Stefani and Pink. She also contributed to albums by Adele and Alicia Keys. Was inducted into the songwriters hall of fame in 2015. She is very talented.
Linda is also an amazing producer. She’s rad.

I've only heard this one song but her voice is amazing and that, out of the crayon box comment had me rolling on the floor.
This whole album is great. Check out Dear Mr. President, Spaceman and Morphine And Chocolate to name a few. The band does have one male, Roger on guitar. They didn't last long, but Linda Perry, lead singer and song writer went on to have a pretty lucrative solo career and is still going. ✌️
Spaceman is always on anytime I’m deep in my emotions & feeling out of place.
I've heard it many times over but it was always just in the background at some bar. I'm a hippie and have closed myself off as far as listening to new music and that's unfortunate. I actually really listened to it this time and you're right, it's definitely dope! I almost didn't click on it but then I thought if Biz can listen to it then so can I. I'm glad I did! Peace

I have always loved this song. Her voice is amazing! I’m really happy to see you reacting to it. The band was originally all women. Linda Perry is the really pretty lady singing What’s Going On? She also wrote the song. She is a song writer and producer. There is a lot about her in Wikipedia.
She was really pretty, and she has a hell of a voice, I like female rock or alternative rock singers.
Most unique voice I ever heard in my 60 years of music listening! I love her voice, the song all good for me. Unfortunately their a one hit wonder. Linda Perry is also a great songwriter wrote for Pink, a few others. I hope she still sings, great voice. Could no doubt do great covers of Janis Joplin's songs and more great singers of the past. Kate Bush for me most unique voice in music. Took me 10 years too get past her voice and listen too her. Kate is a acquired taste for sure but man the woman can do some crazy shit. Love me some Kate Bush. Linda Perry has that quirk too her.. lady can sing and write a tune for sure.
One of the greatest one hit wonders ever with that classic chorus. They broke up after this because the lead singer wanted to go a new direction each album and her band mates refused, so she quit. Now just writes for the likes of Pink.
No doubt she can do great covers of Janis Joplin's songs! Or power singers like Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane

@@pilsplease7561 did u see that in an interview?? because I both read the details and HEARD her tell an interviewer in a face to face sit down interview when asked why she left 4 Non Blondes.....and I quote Linda: " 4 non blondes wanted to do basically the same record again and I wanted to something a little more risky, you know, not so pop...and my band mates wanted to be safe." So I do not believe what you wrote at all.
Oh yes, Linda Perry is a national treasure. This song was a huge hit in the pre-grunge early 90s. We used to put it on repeat and drive around with the windows down blaring this. 😆❤️
They only sing "What's Going On" in the video. I believe they named it "What's Up" because Marvin Gaye had a famous song called "What's Going On" and maybe they didn't want any confusion about the songs.

Anywhoo, as much as I love this song, the band was short-lived. They don't have a catalogue to dive into. To put my love of this song into perspective, if there was a tally of exactly how many times I've intentionally turned this one on.... I'd probably be embarrassed!! But the lead singer, Linda Perry is still HUGE in the music world!!! She has at least 2 record companies (that I know of!) and through the years she has signed and produced MANY records for HUGE artists such as Alicia Keys, Adele, Pink and SOOOO many more... I think she even produced at least one record for Courtney Love🤮🤮🤮 Sorry, I don't like Courtney!! (she was the wife of Kurt Cobain, Nirvana's lead singer).
K, now that you've touched on the 90's, another killer female artist from that decade who DOES have a catalogue of hits is.... MELISSA ETHERIDGE!! She's a rocker chick and her voice is freaking INSANE!!🤯 If you add Melissa to your list of artists to check out, my thoughts (for whatever it's worth! lol!!) for your introduction to her is....

TRUST me, Melissa's vocal performance in that live MORE than matches the studio track (it's WAY better IMO), so seeing her do that performance will NOT ruin a future reaction to the studio version!! To sum it all up this was the forefront of girl power in the 90s. A decade of change i was happy and privileged to witness in real time. In terms of music the 90s were like a sequel to the 60s

I think it’s actually 3 very lucky non blonds that met Linda Perry.
There are 2 Huge songs: "Mighty lady"(4 non blondes) and Fly Away (as I remember it was recorded after Linda left the group). Highly recommended.
They do an excellent cover of Led Zeppelin's 'Misty Mountain Hop'. It was on a LZ tribute album and IMO it was easily the best song on the album.

This is their one hit, they put out this album and I think a second. She then went into producing and continued songwriting.
Not only women and What’s Up isn’t even in the song so I don’t get where it came from. This women has a voice!!
Interesting thing.. the singer, after this band, went on to write and produce a lot of songs for female artists in the late 90s early aughts. Nelly Furtado, Pink I think, maybe even early Katy Perry, though I might be wrong. She became a major songwriter, even though she wasn't in the spotlight anymore. Great artist, even though in the background.

I hate the fact she named her band 4 Non Blondes because it confuses people when I talk about Concrete Blonde. But this was a massive crossover hit on the pop charts, which Concrete Blonde never quite had, so I gotta give them that.
