Linda Perry is a badass. This was their only album, but she went on to become a big-time producer/writer for Pink and Christiana Aguilera and a bunch others.
I think Linda Perry is badass too and she is much better than the people she produces such as pink and they all look up to her those people she produces but she's so talented I wish they would do another album and thank you for your reaction room
That singer Linda Perry- this is their only album HOWEVER Linda Perry has a long career as a music writer and producer working with Christine Aguilera and Gwen Stefani and Pink. She’s no slouch.... great talent for writing and working with several big name artists in the industry.
I used this song to inspire my kids when they were little. They loved it! They (we)sung it at the top of their lungs. Those were the days. 👍I'll never forget😌💖🤗 Thanks for playing it. 💕
I saw them at a small park in Cincy. They were booked when they were small, but this song had become a huge hit in the interim. By the time we saw them, the small park had to hold 10,000 people!!
The Bangles are also an all female group with some great taste!! Hazy shade of winter (a cover that sounds oh so different to the Simon and Garfunkel original), Walk like an Egyptian, Eternal Flame (only after those try Manic Monday)
I love The Bangles, but Walk Like an Egyptian is not only terrible, it's a song that's universally hated by every member of the band. Most of the hate comes from the fact that they didn't write it, there's not a sound in the song that came from any of their instruments, it was a song written and produced by record producers, with their singing voices thrown in, and 2 them had their contributions end up on the cutting room floor, entirely. It also galled them that it ended up being their biggest and most recognizable hit.
If this song doesn't take you right back to a particular summer and the friends and girls/boys of that moment in time in a rosy haze of nostalgia then you are young!
This is the best song to sing in your car alone. I know the people next to me laugh, but how can you not try to sing loud and hit every note? I fail, but man I sound good in my own mind. Great song!
The reason certain songs get suggested suddenly is that we’ll see another reactor do a song that we love and then we want other reactors to experience as well.
Every time I hear this song I get nostalgic for the '90s Speaking of nineties... Still suggesting you listen to Nine Inch Nails. There are literally no bad NiN songs, but a good starting point would be "Ruiner", or "We're in this together, now". Or you could watch the original of "Hurt" that Jonny Cash covered.
I wouldn't go so far as to call them a one hit wonder, but this was far and away their biggest hit. I always loved the song. It reminds me of 60's protest music and it couldnot be more appropriate for today.
I Love Linda Perry!❤️ She has such a crazy awesome voice. And she is so amazingly talented. Since we are in the 90’s, let’s fast forward a year. To 1994 with Blues Traveler - Four. The obvious songs to react to would be: “Hook”, “Run Around” and “The Mountains Win Again”. But the most amazing song sonically would be “Crash Burn”. Then we can move on to around 1996 with a group that I haven’t seen many people people do... Tonic! “If You Could Only See” would be great! Love the 90’s music.
There were a bunch of great females in rock in the 90's. Melissa Etheridge, Alanis Morrisette, Four Non Blondes, The Cranberries, Garbage, and probably others. The 70's and 80's also had their share of female rock singers/groups.
Oh what fond memories! One of my favs, mix between a little grunge and rock/pop. Still remember mid 90's, my ex husband, sang to this song to a crowd at a bar, San Diego, Pacific Beach strip (to a tough crowd to please)..he hit those high notes...received standing ovation. Brings tears to my eyes...he's been recently diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease.
I heard the first verse and chorus from this song in my car and turned the vehicle around to head for the record shop. I played that cassette non stop in my car for months.
I've always loved this song. Linda Perry's voice is powerful and this song is amazingly written. There have been many different types of rock, such as, Punk, Hard, Soft, Heavy Metal, New Wave, Grunge, Psychedelic, Blues Rock, and Alternative Rock (which is the category that 4 Non Blondes falls into).
Pink said she used put her speakers in the window and blast this song to the whole neighborhood, singing at the top of her lungs. Recently, during strict lockdown, one of my neighbors was doing the same thing. I thought, "We've all had this moment in our lives."
The lead singer is one of the biggest producers in the music industry. She wrote or helped write most of Christina Aguilera's biggest hits. And would you believe she hated this song because of how the producers made it something into what it didn't start as? That is why the band did only one album. But she sought to change the industry and did for a time.
This is one of those songs that has always been on my playlist since it came out. Cassette. Burned CD. Mini Disc. ipods. Smartphone. Always bring it along. One of them songs you sing badly at the top of your lungs when you're in the car by yourself.
The one and only 4 Non Blondes studio album (1992) was a great album. Fronted by the incredibly unique and talented Linda Perry. Linda recorded a solo album called Linda Perry “In Flight” (1996) which is also full of great songs and performances. Later she collaborated with musician Tony Tornay to form the two person Rock band Deep Dark Robot. Their album “8 Songs About A Girl” (2011) has killer songs with tons of raunch and attitude. All great stuff by Linda Perry worth checking out.
Linda Perry is the 'leader' at least in this video, singing and playing the guitar. An Amazing person and performer. No one mentioned that most people think this should be called 'whats going on'... but out of respect of Marvin Gaye, they instead called it 'What's Up'... I was in my late 30's when this came out. We thought the band was going to take off any day... we worked so hard... MTV was hitting it..

Love 4 Non Blondes. This time in rock was really a time for female bands. Check out the Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian, Alanis Morissette - Ironic, Joan Osborne - What if God Was One of Us...that is good for now.

@@christinerobinson9372 That ain't no lie.
Glad she found great success with other pop artists, but this is her best song.

I think Linda Perry is badass too and she is much better than the people she produces such as pink and they all look up to her those people she produces but she's so talented I wish they would do another album and thank you for your reaction room
Someone mentioned Concrete Blond. I second that. Their song Joey.
Joey is great but also love God is a Bullet
Yes to both!!

Same!
Same!!
Yep , it was my friend groups favourite song back in high school , when it came out ! Lol
Most definitely.... I sure do🤘
What's Going On - No better words spoken for today.
Sadly so. This song is nearly 30 years old. I would have hoped the world would have change somewhat since then :-/

Nice comment
I like the meme from the lyrics of this song "And I scream at the top of my lungs. . . FUUUUUUUUUU. . . " 😎
This was their biggest hit. Linda Perry is a beast!!!
Their only 🎯 hit LMAO 🤣🤣🤣
@@rhondamcbath6279
I was thinking they were a one hit wonder.
But she wrote a few of Katie Perry's hits
At this point we all need to take a step outside, take a deep breath and get real high and scream from the top of our lungs, "WHATS GOING ON!"
Great comment

I was there as well. Eden Park. I used to work at the Baldwin building and went to the concert after work
I saw them in 93 at an old converted theatre that held 800 it was insane!
I think they only had one album, but Linda Perry has gone on to be one of the biggest songwriters around.
Linda Perry is so nineties. She even married Darlene from Roseanne. Doesn’t get more nineties than that.
Sara Gilbert
I did not know that. 👍
@@Jelsick yeah. Sarah Gilbert & Linda Perry were together for like 20+ years. They split 2-3 years ago or so.
If she married Daria, that would be more nineties.

Morphine and Chocolate another great song by 4 Non Blondes.
Their Album. Bigger Better Faster More! Easily in the Top 10 albums of the 90s
This is actually more ‘alternative’ rock than Rock and Roll. Definitely more early 90’s Grunge.

Ok. Now play "Faith No More - Epic". You are in MTV land now.

Old school MTV. I miss those days, dude
We've been asking that question since Marvi Gaye...
Excellent observation
Yep, that song (as you likely know) was why this song is actually titled "What's Up?" rather than the actual chorus question.
This was their biggest, but I love that whole album. A couple more great songs off it, to me at least, are Spaceman and Superfly.
