I’m surprised there weren’t any abalone in your video. With the long running moratorium on taking them, you’d think they’d be abundant in Monterey. I didn’t notice much giant kelp (their main food source) so that’s probably why. I grew up diving for ab and didn’t have to go more than 15 feet deep to get my limit in about 20 minutes. I can’t tell you how much I miss the succulent taste of these delicious gastropods. The freezer at my house growing up was ALWAYS stocked! Great days!
Yeah not that long ago actually there used to be a big ole kelp forest right where I caught the opel eye and the kelp bass! Unfortunately I missed out on all the abalone day in Monterey but I know some spots up north in Jenner where some buddies of mine get some. I'll be doing a video up there hopefully sooner than later 🤿🔱 thank you for your comment!
It was definitely limit when I shot it cuz I vividly remember measuring it against my arm! I killed and bled it right away and put in the float. We stayed in the water for another 3 hours after that and when I took it out for pictures it had shrunk at least 2 inches and looked small in the picture. (Probably wasn't a good idea to include in the video but meh lol)
Just kept going on freediving trips. I never took a freediving course but I would love to, they practice breathing techniques before the dive that helps with breath holding longer
When i measured it underwater after I shot it it was 22.5 inches. But we stayed in the water for like another 3 hours or so that day and I had bled it right after I caught it and it had shrunk a bit after we got out
Yeah I love pebble beach! I have a rod and reel kayaking video from there. The bathrooms were under construction last time I went hopefully they're done now
Hola amigo yo soy de México también practico pesca sub en playa del Carmen tengo una lámpara bogge como la tuya pero mi cargador se rompió ahí por dónde vives me podrías conseguir un cargador de 3 pin y te pago el costo más envío por favor.

Abalone is closed…. Likely will not be coming back since they’re not doing so well
I confused abalone for scallops in my response above. My friends get scallops NOT abalone 😅
@@pursuitoffish they better not be getting scallops there!
that are is fin fish only
Yeah I've never seen someone get a scallop from there, they get them from other places
Once again, killing it out here
Thanks bro! I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Nice bro new friend from philippines😊😊
❤️
monterey is hella cold , and got sharks , ur crazy
If you can dive in Monterey you can dive anywhere in the world 🌎
"Hella cold" lol
that baby lingcod you got lol

where was this specifically in monterey? good stuff though!
right infront of the aquarium
how did you get your breathhold so good?
Just kept going on freediving trips. I never took a freediving course but I would love to, they practice breathing techniques before the dive that helps with breath holding longer
The first rockfish you caught was actually a kelp rockfish not a black rockfish
Yes sir thanks for the correction!
Excellent footage!
🤿🤙
as you said, not a good practice to leave the line loose
Yup! You live and you learn
Nice
🙌🏻
How big was the lingcod?
When i measured it underwater after I shot it it was 22.5 inches. But we stayed in the water for like another 3 hours or so that day and I had bled it right after I caught it and it had shrunk a bit after we got out
Does it hurt the fish?
I'm sure it does. Which is why I try to end their misery as soon as I can
Have you hit up pebble beach area? Pretty easy launch and hot showers available
Yeah I love pebble beach! I have a rod and reel kayaking video from there. The bathrooms were under construction last time I went hopefully they're done now
Lingcod seems undersized
It shrunk :/ it's the same one I shot. We stayed in the water for like another 3 hours after that

I thought the Monterey Bay was a marine sancturary...(?)
Not all of it. Anything south bound of otter cove is fair game. And also the del Monte beach area
So you cal cull all the urchins you want in that area?
I don't know if there's a limit but yeah you can collect them. I have yet to try but I hear the yellow stuff inside goes well with rice 🍚
Mucho por aprender....demasiado ruido y golpes en las piedras con el arpon...mala colocacion de la linterna...etc.
Pero poco a poco se aprende.
Muchas gracias señor 👌🏻🔱 siempre hay margen de mejora
socal got better spearfishing
It's certainly easier with better conditions. You gotta be built a little different for Monterey
