    It makes sense that Data would have the longest run as Captain of anyone. Unlike any Captain before him, Data cannot and will not age either physically or cognitively, his mind won't grow slower nor will his bones grow frail... He's a machine, and theoretically with a rotating crew he could be a starship captain indefinitely if he and starfleet desired to do so.

      Eisenbeisser DE It wasn’t intentional. B-4 was broken. They transferred Data’s pathways to B-4 in order to try to repair him. The ending implies that Data’s personality is starting to emerge in B-4 after the original Data’s death. Given that artificial beings routinely copy themselves (how many times has the Doctor copied or moved himself) and consider it their “true” self, there’s no reason to treat the resurrected Data any differently.

  • @medievalist
    @medievalist 6 лет назад +31

    Yes, I feel sorry for poor Harriman as well. Imagine being stuck with "Tuesday" for the rest of your career. It would be interesting to know more about him. I'm thoroughly intruiged by Scott, as she was the first woman we saw as the commander of the Enterprise, and seemed a very impressive person. It would make for a rather sad series though, as we know the tragic end to her story. ("Yesterday's Enterprise" is one of my favourite TNG episodes.) I would love a new series set in the 25th century, as I feel the 23rd and 24th are already so crowded, it would be great to have a fresh slate.

    • @artembentsionov
      @artembentsionov 5 лет назад +2

      There’s a Lost Era novel where he takes part in a Starfleet Intelligence operation that results in the Tomed Incident. He and a few other operatives hijack the Romulan flagship Tomed and send it on a suicide run at the Federation side of the Neutral Zone, overloading its singularity drive while at warp. The explosion destroys several Starfleet outposts, supposedly killing over 10,000 people. In reality, all the names on that list were already dead, and life sign generators were used to fake them. The only people to die were the Romulan Admiral Aventeer Vokar and his crew. Well, Harriman’s father died too, but that was an accident earlier in the book (they faked a new drive system by using transwarp with that stolen Romulan cloak).
      The final goal was to force the Klingons off their fence and stand on the side of the Federation in negotiations at Algeron (Azetbur was dragging her heels). Romulans chose to retreat to their territory but demanded that Federation not use cloak. They were fine with it.
      Honestly, given the underhanded nature of the operation, I’m surprised it was SI and not Section 31 doing it. SI is supposed to be the nicer one of the two.
      Bottom line: if you take this into consideration, then Harriman was a badass.

Then in Nemesis it’s been 15 years that the crew was together so... considering the 14 months between D & E, Picard commanded for approx 14 years plus anything post Nemesis.

    I agree with you sir on having a series focus on the Enterprise-B, after its near disastrous maiden voyage...
    1) Love the Excelsior ship and the refit of it for the NCC-1701-B
    2) Loved the movie uniforms as well
    3) Loved the flawed (inexperienced) CO of the "flagship", because that gives great potential to have a show with a main character who has potential for a great deal of growth--as Kirk put it, but re-stated "risk is part of the responsibility if he wants to sit in that chair" Harriman relied on his name to get him to the top but then sort of choked when time called for him to be CO. The series could show his growth into a mature, memorable captain in the legacy of commanding Enterprise ships.
    4) I think that time period provides a good transition time in Federation history between the Cold War era during the movies with the Klingons, to what caused the Romulans to go into isolation at the beginning of the 24th century. I feel like the E-B played a good role in reminding the Federation that they were out their for exploration and new discovers not to fly the flag and show the muscle that the refit Enterprise and Enterprise-A had to do because of the uneasiness with the Klingons. Plus there could be a proper introduction for the Cardassians, Breen, Nausicans, etc. (species we all saw show-up in TNG but not get a introduction)
    Finally, I could see a tip of the hat to the past when in the finale or finale season, a seasoned John Harriman could have an encounter with a young Jean-Luc Picard, maybe a chance encounter that would influence the future Enterprise captain's decision to join Starfleet.

      Unfortunately CBS has decided that Data is dead, and B4 was never able to hold his engrams or anything like that. B4 was shut down, disassembled, and literally put inside some drawer. If the body had been placed into another piece of furniture, you could say he was shelved both literally and figuratively. I thought most Starfleet vessels were designed for war, with the Galaxy-class being the main outlier. I know _STO_ isn't cannon, but it describes Connies as cruisers and Mirandas as frigates. And I'm pretty sure Kirk didn't have families on his ship. _USS Defiant_ and _USS Voyager_ , which were launched before _USS Sovereign_ , which was renamed _Enterprise-E_ , was ready, almost certainly did not have room for crew families, and they were certainly designed for war against the Borg.

    The 'captain Picard' show, as you call it, is actually called "The Captain Picard Show". And it's a sketch comedy talk show (blunt talk / SNL). A hilarious running gag is that no one believes the stories the Voyager crew tells. Harry Kim leads the house band and gets teased constantly because he's still an ensign.

    • @carlosadiaz
      @carlosadiaz 5 лет назад

      I could never understand why Harry wasn't promoted to lieutenant during the seven seasons in Voyager. The only thing I can imagine was that Janeway always thought of him as the new officer just graduated from the Academy. Harry did a lot of great stuff that merited a promotion.

    I agree, Enterprise B era would be the most interesting because there's a lot of room for storytelling there. I know they are doing a Picard show but I'd love to see flashback episodes with a young Picard on the Stargazer in kind of a parallel storyline like Westworld or Lost.

    If you are familiar with Star Trek Online, you might know, that after the Enterprise-E another ship of the Odyssey-Class, called Enterprise-E was commitioned in 2409. It is captained by the andorian Va'Kel Shon and appears throughout the events often to assist in various missions. And you forgot to mention Cpt. Morgan Bateson (formerly USS Bozeman) who oversaw the construction of the USS Enterprise-E and was supposed to take over that ship until the Enterprise-D was lost, and ultimately the command of the Enterprise-E was given to Jean-Luc Picard. Also, Cpt. Montgomery Scott worked on the construction of the Enterprise-E as well refitting severall components of the Enterprise-D.

    If Star Trek Online canon is going to be included, I must point out that the game has the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-F, Odyssey class and launched in the same year as its Sovereign class predecessor was decommissioned. The 3800 story arc has the player attending an anti-Borg conference at Deep Space Nine when one last wave of Dominion war ships from the war that dominated the writing for the last two seasons of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. In the second to last mission in the story arc, Captain Vokel Shon sacrificed his ship, the Defiant class U.S.S. Belfast, to cover the player as they escape an escalating battle with an embarked VIP. Then, in the next mission, the player is tasked with infiltrating a Dominion occupied DS9 to assassinate the Jem'hadar commander. That Jem'hadar escapes to a ship and the mission transitions to a space battle. That space battle starts with the player's ship's shield drained to half because it had to fight its way in close enough to beam the player out and the battle goes downhill from there. Just then, a new ship bearing the name Enterprise, and commanded by Capt. Shon, warps in and completely reverses the course of the battle, just like the Enterprise did in First Contact against the Borg. Now, in my head canon, I picture that the Dominion decides to attend the now restarted conference, while the female changeling that was serving as general fleet commander of all Dominion forces in the alpha quadrant, and just so happens to be the VIP that was extracted from the battle where the Belfast was destroyed, is sent to experience life amongst the monks of P'jem, and Captain Vokel Shon is offered a long term command posting as Commanding Officer of the newly proven Odyssey class U.S.S. Enterprise. Captain Shon's most common assignments were hunting down Tal Shiar, who have been relegated to a fascist terrorist group trying to enforce the rule of the now almost totally collapsed Romulan Star Empire, and diplomatic relations with the newly formed Romulan Star Republic, the player faction if you decide to be a Romulan.

    Taking just novels into account which are considered canon until something on-screen contradicts them Picard was in command of D/E from 2375-2385 20 years in total, if you subtract time relieved from D and time between D & E it could be 19. However E was originally called Monarch and they rechristened it after the fact as an emergency replacement for the fleets flagship, something no Enterprise prior to D had ever officially been full-time. If you take the new Picard series he steps down from E sometime in or shortly after 2387 with the destruction of Romulus, bringing JLPs official time to 22 years.

    I really hope that we get to see the Enterprise-E in the new Picard series. It will be an old ship by then, at least 30 years old since the show is said to be taking place 20 years after the end of Nemesis. I'd like to believe that the ship lasted longer than the Enterprise-D since the galaxy class was designed for diplomatic exploration while the sovereign class was designed for war since the Federation finally woke up after getting their butt kicked at Wolf-359.

    I find it interesting so many people are assuming the "Picard series" will: 1) be Picard-centric, 2) Take place post-Nemesis, 3) feature Patrick Stewart in the role of JLP. The only thing he said when he made his announcement was that Picard was coming back. It could be an animated series set on the Stargazer. It could be a live action show with Picard in Starfleet Academy. It could be a Mirror-Universe series about Mirror-Picard as a new Terran Emperor, reclaiming the Empire's former glory after the sad state we learn of in the DS9 Mirror episodes. It could literally be anything featuring the character of Jean-Luc Picard, with or without Patrick Stewart.
