Cough assist machine would help immensely! I’m a retired registered respiratory therapist and I could picture exactly what happened Shane. Must have been so frightening for you. Suction machine around would hurt either. You don’t want to aspirate vomit.
Thank you for your comment!! Is that the vest? 0: Which doctor would I see about getting treatment with this kind of thing, a pulmonologist? Sending well wishes x
@@pyao Hello. A vest vibrates the lungs to help loosen thick secretions. A cough assist is used with a mask to apply a positive pressure breath to the lungs followed by a negative pressure to help remove secretions from the lungs. Yes, a pulmonologist would order this. Hope this was helpful.
So sorry you had to deal with all of that Shane and Hannah. As a long time intensive care nurse and from experience with my own family members, the irritation to your diaphragm from all that coughing when you've aspirated can also lead you to throw up. Usually they're not such separate events, but it's possible that this was the cause. Glad to see you're feeling better Shane! ❤
I'm the disabled half of an interabled couple, going on 30 years. There aren't words to describe how much I adore you two!!! We've been taking care of each other, happily, since the beginning. Just like you two do! 😉 ❤
@Maguire708Julie Love that! ❤️ Congratulations! What's so funny about people who just don't get it...they just think the able person takes care of the disabled person. Lol. It's 50/50 in my opinion if it's a loving couple like these two & the lucky two of us!

I’m glad you’re feeling better. That being said, you two charm me to bits. I think you two are a story of love, respect and kindness and amazing humor. I love you guys. I wish you both all good things. ❤
So glad you are okay! Hannah you are so great to handle throw up I can’t even handle it with a family member or even watching it on TV. Yuck but glad you’re OK Shane. Love you guys together.❤
Also I would lay him on his side and do the clapping percussions for at least 20 min and a lot would come out. He hated it but it worked. Please talk to a doctor about this. Also never feel afraid to call 911 when he’s struggling. Choking is scary and they can help you and Shane right away. Please stay healthy and safe. I love you guys❤️
I choke sometimes just on spit and have to cough forever to get it out. It can upset my stomach after all the coughing. Maybe that was it. Hope you guys have a giant binder with all of Shane's med records or have EMR from your hospital in MN. It would take precious time trying to figure out from scratch if something big happened. Just making sure you are covered. Love you guys.
Ask your doctor about getting a cough assist machine. I have SMA too so I experience the same phlegm in lungs issue. The cough assist machine is very effective for me in clearing phlegm. It's portable too. The sock underneath the pillow probably elevated your head enough to cause any nocturnal production of saliva to build in your mouth and find it's way to your lungs. Whereas normally without the sock your saliva would simply fall onto your pillow or something (if you sleep on your side only). Just my guess.
It's possible that he just swallowed the mucus. Post nasal drip will do that, sit in your stomach. You swallow it and don't even realize it. That will make you vomit if it sits in your stomach. :(
Ok, first let me say, when you started this video I thought you guys were funny, and then it became scary. I'm so happy you are ok now. You guys are so awesome, and I love you both. You have brought sunshine to my heart. Take care and I'll see you later.
Thanks for sharing through video and being a good example. Your sharing, your video, your life and example has served as a light and inspiration to all who might be living in darkness, including me. I call these episodes of phlegm Snot Monsters lol. Kid has a shakey vest and a cough assist but sometimes it takes puking to clear him up. Glad you feel better shane!
I see a nurse has already mentioned a cough assist ! I’m suprised they have not got you one Shane ( health services ) if you don’t know what one looks like or works on my channel my son is using one, will give you a good idea of how they work. Honestly it’s such a benifit to you & because you have lack of muscle. Sending love ❤️
At the end of the video when she said that, he's officially better ! He replied : « OK I'm good now » … However, the automatic closed-captions display "I'm dead" ... Now, I'm the one who's dying of laughing . 🙂
That must have been scary for both of you. I'm glad your OK Shane. I'm a caregiver to a loved one who is disabled and has had a hard time coughing up mucus in the past. Hannah, I don't know how to describe this in writing but there is a way you can cup your hands and pat Shane on the back if this ever happens again. When you see Shane's doctor again ask if they can show you this. Or maybe you can call Shane's doctor and ask if they can have home health care come out to show you how? As another commenter said please don't hesitate to call 911 if Shane is ever having difficulty breathing again. The suction machines that others have mentioned make it a lot easier to get mucus out if Shane can't cough it out. Ask Shane's doctor about this.
Have you considered making your own "A Day In Our Lives" video? It would be really cool to see how things have changed since the SBSK video came out, what with the JACO arm, Hannah not being in college, etc.
I am not a professional by any means, but I am a mom. I think the nausea could have been due to the drainage you could have been experiencing and with all the phlegm you could have swallowed, this could cause you to be nauseous. Glad you are feeling better.
Was thinking the same thing! There have been times when I had coughing fits so bad they literally made me vomit. The phlegm, the muscle spams from the physical exertion of coughing, the lack of oxygen.... It's scary for a few minutes. But for Shane! Wow! It must be frightening on a whole other level.
Shane I’m so sorry you felt like crap and that’s really scary when you feel like you’re choking on your arm slam that’s happened to me when I swallow and have swine problems and it goes down the wrong pipe sometimes on when I drink something sometimes when I eat, so I’m a get a surgical procedure called esophageal dilation so I totally understand how scary that feeling is and how uncomfortable it is as far as you throwing up, I don’t know what that was maybe some kind of food poisoning of some sort but the main thing is. I’m glad you feel better and I’m glad you’re OK.
SMA doesn't cause sudden death, does it? If it died, then it wouldn't be funny. But I'd pull that prank on my wife just to get her reaction. Now, if she really didn't like it, that'd be one thing, but Hannah doesn't seem to mind.
